  1. If you were Playing chess/football/tennis and some oik came along and nicked your king/queen/ball during a game you'd be just as anoyed (maybe more so) as someone discovering that a thief had stolen your cache/coin, Let's not mince words here - we are talking about Theft, Vandalism and destruction of property, ALL these should be reported
  2. The first geocoin was released on (as far as i can find out) 20th Sept 2002 (wow - 8th aniversary tomorrow) and the system seems to have worked quite well during the last 8 years, (apart from the VERY few people who choose to steal coins) If you feel you can come up with a better system after your 8 weeks of geocaching . . . . . . . . . . .
  3. hmmmm - I think that this one is slightly higher than the one on Everest
  4. I would have thought that there will be a reprise of the facebook group from last years listing all (most of) the uk camping events ( Keehotee ? ) And i am sure that the GAGB events calender will be as comprehensive as always
  5. hhhmmmm Tempting, very tempting
  6. I knew that ,, but I am led to believe that you can only do it once (but i may be wrong) @ Jacaru - don't let them get you down mate.
  7. (bold and colour are mine) If I were in this situation, I would be asking myself WHY the only one that is remaining is the one that is "member only".........................................
  8. It's at times like this that i really apreciate my £30 PDA and £15 bluetooth GPSr (sorry abbout your garmins tho, I know that you and Tim have had way too many problems with them)
  9. I believe that would exclude my own caches from the Query. I actually want them in a query, but as status "found" rather than "unfound". I use my GPS receiver frequently for locating my own caches and would like the latest data and logs each week in a PQ. I just don't want to have to wade through my own caches when selecting "Find a Geocache" on my Oregon. Any other ideas? Thanks! If you use GSAK you can mark your hides as found in there then export a gpx file for your GPS/PDA. They will then show up as found on your unit without actualy logging them as found on the cache page
  10. I think I might not be the only one here who is wondering this But could you please tell me, Why the obsession with gettting people to set series caches ?
  11. No... it says "unique finds on unique caches"... and the total is out by one, compared to the figure beside my "handle" in the logs.. but that's not my main problem. Perhaps I'm not an observant cacher, but EXACTLY where do I find "My finds"? Darned if I've seen that anywhere... tlls On the "create Pocket Queries" page there is a "button" labled "add to queue" this will generate a PQ of ALL your found caches
  12. Unless it contains more than 500 caches, in which case it'll be there waiting for you to download it (a tab on the PQ page)
  13. not that long ,,, 19:08 till 02:05 , only 6 hours 57 mins
  14. I have just read thru the logs on the cache page, Some people there have admitted returning to this cache 2, 3, or more times , and some of these cachers have many many 1000s of finds, (one guy with more than 14,000 finds admits to taking 3 trips before he found it) You have 21 finds - - step away from it for a while, have another look for it in a few months (because you KNOW you ain't going to ignore it), I'm sure you'll find it eventualy
  15. I like where you're coming from. I don't think it'd be too bad if you stocked up from stuff from abroad. I bought from http://www.adventure-caching.de/ as that was the best place I found for 35mm film cannisters. I bought 40 for something like 25 cent each, with 9 euros postage. I brought a load of other stuff too. If you cover the costs you can get some more unique stuff from abroad that you can tempt UK cachers into buying! I'd be tempted!!! You actualy paid money for what all photographers/photo processers toss in the bin by the 100s ?
  16. I can see where this could be a good thing ,and a bad thing Publishing a cache just as your local ftf hound is starting work, Then another just as he goes to bed for the night etc etc etc Best left as it is I think, reviewers are pretty accomadating when requested to publish at specific times for events etc
  17. It's possible it was intended to be a trade item, for some one to take and hide as a new cache someplace. As a rule I don't do swaps, so dont carry any trinkets with me, but on ocasion if I see something in a cache that i fancy I'll leave a bison tube in exchange, we usualy have a few in a pocket as part of the maintainance kit. So I'd treat it like any other swap item
  18. lol i don't get what's the point of logging a find like that on a different note, someone definitely needs to post a NA log, CO hasn't logged in since march ... and lo, a small, blue man wanders onto the cache page... and does just that. MrsB Sorry for taking the thread off topic, BUT, It anoys me when people KNOW that a cache need archiving and pussy foot about not wanting to offend anyone, if a cache is dead .. it's dead .. let it go
  19. thats tighter than the scots We Northerners can get in and out for free
  20. I too have logged my intent to attend. And going by the quality of the Welsh events I have attended in the past, it should be a doooooozy See you all there
  21. Surely, if you want/need a difinitive answer to a question a forum of any kind isn't the place to get it, Email your reviewer directly, they will all take the time out to help out in any way they can, OR, if you need/want an answer from Groundspeak (a Lacky if you like) ,, email contact@Groundspeak.com A forum as i understand it - is a place for public discusion
  22. It's a highly complex process: 1 ) Receive e-mail stating there is a problem. 2 ) Drive as close to the cache as is reasonable. 3 ) Walk to ground zero. 4 ) Hunt for the cache. 5 ) Locate the cache. 6 ) Conduct the necessary maintenance. 7 ) Rinse & repeat as needed. ok ,, point taken I'll shut up now and sit back in my corner
  23. How do you maintain a cache (which you agree to do as owner as per T&Cs) if you don't know where it is ?
  24. As a P.S. ...... I also have been known to use tomtom for urban caching, enter the co-ords, (or the POI) set it to walking mode and off you go, great for getting to GZ in a strange town/city. I switch to "normal" gps once i get close to GZ.
  25. When i load the gpx/memorymap files on the PDA I aslo add the caches to tomtom as POIs - the tomtom then "mooos" at me when we are within 100yard of a cache Does it "moo" at you when you're within 100 yards of *any* cache/poi, or do you have tell the TomTom that you want to navigate to a specific POI first? If you don't have to indicate that you're navigating to a specific waypoint, how does it determine that the POI it's mooing about is a geocache? I've been toying with the idea of getting a car navigation GPS for awhile and if the TomTom can provide proximity alerts for a POI category then that's a data point in favor of a TomTom rather than another vendor. I would, however, leave the car navigation GPS in the car and use my handheld for navigating once I get out of the car. I have it set to display POIs on the main navigation screen and disable all POIs exapt caches, i have the distance set to 100 yards, but you can set it to whatever distance you want. Then as you drive round the caches show up on the screen as POIs and the alarm sounds if it's within the specified distance, you don't have to be navigating to it (or anything else) it works either way. As for genorating the POI file - GSAK is my best friend
