En vez de empezar otro hilo, voy a poner otra pregunta (relacionada) aquí. Llevo tiempo preparando una serie de cachés cerca de donde vivo. De momento la zona en cuestión tiene tres cachés abandonados, el dueño es australiano y dudo mucho que vuelva aquí a hacer mantenimiento. Iba a pedir al revisor que los archivara para poder mandarse los míos (lo único que me falta es poner los contenedores en sus escondites). Hoy he visto que alguien ha repuesto los tres cachés abandonados con contenedores suyos y los ha logueado como encontrados, supongo que sin el permiso del autor de los cachés. Me ha fastidiado un poco mis planes. ¿Se puede hacer algo?

Desafortunadamente es algo que pasa muy a menudo. Hay muchos cachés abandonados por Castilla-la Mancha, y hay geocachers que llevan miles de encontrados que van registrándolos como encontrados, cuando el contenedor desapareció hace mucho tiempo. Lo hacen porque saben que el caché se va a archivar, y no quieren perder la oportunidad de sumar otro más a la cuenta. Molesta un poco porque crees que el caché está disponible y luego ves que no.

De verdad, no tengo palabras... pues a lo mejor deberías empezar a jugar la lotería... ;-) A mí también me han pasado cosas raras con mis cachés (aunque no tan raras como el tuyo). Recuerdo que uno que tenía en la puerta de Santa María en CR desapareció. Busqué por todas las partes pero nada.... así que puse otro. 12 meses después, en una visita de mantenimiento, encontré el caché original al lado del nuevo. Obviamente alguien se llevó el caché a casa, descubrió lo que era, y lo devolvió un año después.

This thread has given me some great laughs, thank you. I'm glad it's not just me who gets frustrated by people logging finds when they clearly haven't found it. There's an infamous cacher in Madrid who does something similar. He'll post a DNF at first, but once it's clear that the owner isn't going to perform maintenance or it's going to be archived, he logs a found. At the end of the day, it's all about the numbers!

Mine is to take my daughters out caching as often as possible. They love looking for 'treasure' and it's great to get them outside doing something we all enjoy. I'll have to get them both an account as well so they can start logging them! Great idea for a thread by the way ;-) I feel jealous reading where everyone is from and all the travelling they're going to do!

Not very logical as the mails are sent out to the COs. Maybe better ask: How many cachers have archived caches in perfectly good condition? It would be quite absurd asking a cache owner to check their cache because I did not manage to get to the cache, could not open it or something else happening on my side. Typically that tends to happen in pretty urban areas. Why affect remote hiking caches by something which goes wrong in a completely different area with different participants? - That wasn't my point, geocaching has grown so much in recent years that out of the millions of caches that exist, there are probably hundreds of thousands that have needs maintenance or archive logs. This system will help reviewers know which caches to deal with first. - If a cacher chooses to archive their own cache it's their decision, nothing to do with Groundspeak. - 1 DNF won't affect the system. If 10 people log DNFs because they can't open the container or couldn't get there, there's obviously a problem with the cache. - I live in a very rural area, it happens here too. I'm sure reviewers will use common sense when deciding what action to take (if any). At the end of the day it's only an email.

O.o Es el cuarto año que organizan este evento MEGA, creo que es más fácil que sea MEGA si ya se ha celebrado antes. Supongo que si no llegan a 500 Will Attend, lo cambiarán a un evento normal.

Things that irk me most: 1) When people sign up, hide a cache despite never having found one in their lives, and then never log onto the site ever again. 2) Cachers who see caches that have disappeared and are about to be archived and log them as found (It's all about the numbers!) 3) People who avoid looking for caches that have 1 DNF log. At least give it a go, if there's a second DNF log the owner might check on it. Don't just avoid it and log all the other ones within a mile that you knew were there! 4) When I get back home from a day's caching and realise I forgot to put one of the caches on the trail on my GPS. But hey, it gives me an excuse to go back

I have a feeling this has just been introduced to help the reviewers. I read a post written by a Spanish reviewer the other day which said that he had 500 pages of caches that needed maintenance in his area. Perhaps this system is just to help them prioritise which caches need attention first. Has anyone had a cache archived that was actually in perfectly good condition? If the system automatically archived caches once they reached a certain health score, that would be an issue. However, I'm sure reviewers use common sense when deciding whether to archive or not. As long as cache owners check on their caches regularly, I don't see the problem. I don't know how the algorithm works, but I'm assuming that 10 DNFs on a 1/1 cache will lose a lot more points than 5 DNFs on a 5/5 cache. And a cache with that many DNFs needs attention, simple as that. I don't know about other places, but where I live in Spain it's a sorry state of affairs. We get lots of people who obviously read about caching somewhere, sign up, hide a cache, and then disappear. As they aren't well hidden, they disappear within a week. So they rack up numerous DNFs, but few people post a NA (I normally end up doing it). Once it has a NA, there are certain cachers from Madrid who post a found log when they haven't been anywhere near it, knowing that will end up getting archived. Hopefully this system will stop that from happening.

El mantenimiento de los caches tiene que hacerlo el mismo geocacher que lo coloco. Si un geocacher cuando va a buscar un cache, ve que este tiene problemas, tiene que poner un log de "necesita mantenimiento". Y si se da el caso de que hay algun motivo para que ese cache tenga que ser archivado, cualquier geocacher puede poner un log de "necesita ser archivado". Los logs de necesita ser archivado les llegan automaticamente a los revisores (los de necesita mantenimiento no), y estos actuan en consecuencia, archivandolo o no, dependiendo de los motivos particulares de cada cache. Ahora bien, ultimamente los revisores estan bastante saturados de trabajo y tienen este tema un poco aparcado por no poder dedicarle el suficiente tiempo. Esperemos que Groundspeak (la empresa que lleva el geocaching) tome cartas en el asunto y ponga los medios necesarios para arreglar este problema. Un saludo. omortsoN Hola omortsoN, Sí, cuando he dicho mantenimiento obviamente me refería al hecho de un revisor desactivando y/o archivando un caché cuando sea necesario debido a la falta de atención del dueño. Especialmente cuando se ve claramente que el dueño no va a hacer nada. Lo último que has dicho es lo que me preguntaba. ¿Están los revisores saturados de trabajo? Entonces, ¿no debería Groundspeak hacer algo para solucionarlo? A lo mejor esto no pasa tanto en las ciudades grandes, pero por Ciudad Real está pasando mucho últimamente. Me alegra que haya más cachés por aquí (cuando empecé hace 10 años no había ni uno), pero ahora hay muchos abandonados. Como he puesto arriba en inglés, seguiré con mis logs de NA (aunque me llamen pesado) Un saludo.

Thanks for the reply I used the term "maintain" as I wasn't sure what term to use, although I was referring to the database as you have mentioned. I know that in the UK if a cache has a number of DNFs or has been disabled for a while, the reviewers are quick to write a message saying that the caches will be archived unless they are sorted out (which I completely agree with). Yet that doesn't happen here in Spain. My question was whether that is because there aren't enough reviewers in Spain, or because the area they have to cover is too large. In the meantime I will keep persevering with NA logs, although there are way more caches that have been abandoned than the examples I put above. Thanks for the info!

Antes de empezar, no quiero criticar el gran trabajo que hacen todos los voluntarios aquí en España acerca del geocaching, admiro como encuentran el tiempo para publicar tantos cachés nuevos tan rápido. Algo que no entiendo son los tipos de voluntarios que hay. Leyendo la página de geocaching, veo que hay cuatro tipos: revisores, moderadores, traductores y geoawares (tengo la página en inglés, no sé como se llaman en español). Mi pregunta es: ¿Quién es responsable para el mantenimiento de los cachés? Quiero decir, si un caché desaparece y el dueño lleva mucho tiempo sin meterse en la página de geocaching, ¿quién decide archivarlo o no? Supongo que será la responsabilidad de los revisores, pero cuando pienso que McRover (creo que es él) tiene una zona enorme (Castilla-la Mancha y Andalucía, y a lo mejor más), ¿cómo puede estar encima de todo? Por Ciudad Real hay muchos ejemplos de cachés que fueron escondidos por nuevos jugadores, que luego perdieron interés en el juego. Entonces estos cachés se encuentran abandonados. Tiene varios DNFs y logs de "needs maintenance". El caché sigue activo. https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6KAEQ_martagmb01 - No se encuentra desde julio del 2016. La dueña escondió el caché y no se ha metido en la página desde entonces. Lleva varios DNFs y un "needs archived". El caché sigue activo. Esos son solo unos ejemplos, hay muchos más. ¿No tendría sentido tener otro tipo de voluntario que se encargue de "mantener" los cachés? Los que publican los cachés ya tienen mucho trabajo. ¿Qué opináis?

Hi everyone, I've been preparing for a trip and have been trying to upload caches onto my GPS, which is an Oregon 450. Although I normally use PQs, for this trip I just wanted to upload specific caches, so have been trying to do it manually, cache by cache, using the "Send to my GPS" option on the cache page. I'm using IE and it recognises my device without a problem, but when I press Write, instead of getting the usual "successfully written" message coming up, I'm getting this: E:/Garmin/GPX/GC5VH4K.GPX When I check the GPS afterwards the cache isn't on it. Any ideas? I have the latest plugins installed. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!

Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo, pero la verdad es que hay tantos tramposos ahora que casi me da igual. Si esas personas no tienen nada major que hacer, ¿qué se puede hacer? Si fuera una persona o dos a lo mejor se podría hacer algo, pero hay tantas personas ahora que lo hacen. Ahora veo todo tipo de trampa; gente logueando caches como Found cuando no lo han encontrado (muchas veces cuando el caché ha desaparecido), lo mismo con eventos cuando no han asistido, cambiando las fechas de los logs para cumplir challenges... Todo para falsear estadísticas como has dicho. Y algunas de esas personas son geocachers "respetados" que llevan mucho tiempo haciendo este hobby. Es un poco triste. Así pienso yo ahora, el geocaching es algo personal. Me encanta buscar caches, resolver mysteries y conocer sitios nuevos.

Creo que deberías mandar un mensaje al revisor del cachè, porque no entiendo como puede haber un caché sin contenedor o libro de registro. Los Virtual caches de antes no tenían, pero ya no existen y hacía falta una foto demonstrando que habías estado en ese sitio. Si vas al perfil de la persona que ha escondido el caché, todos los que tiene publicados son iguales, sin contenedor. Lo que me sorprende es que no ha encontrado ningún caché, ¿cómo sabe lo que hay que hacer? A veces creo que debería haber una norma diciendo que para poder esconder un caché, tienes que haber encontrado un mínimo de 50. Un saludo

Creo que te refieres a los caches de 'JuanVivo', ya que mucha de la información que aparece en ellos está enlazada a una página de total confianza, pero que Chrome (no sé si otros navegadores) la interpretan como "mala" Tampoco sé si te refieres a algún cache mío ('Chussone') ya que yo tengo algunos dados de alta por allí... Mientras me comentas algo, voy a echar un vistazo a los míos. Y, mientras, ya le he contactado con 'JuanVivo' para hacerle saber el asunto. Saludos. Muchísimas gracias. Sabía que algunos eran de juanvivo o de GeoMigas, pero la verdad es que pensaba que Juanvivo ya no hacía geocaching, ya que hace dos años que no encuentra un caché. Por eso he puesto el mensaje aquí, por si alguien sabía algo. Pues aprovechando este hilo, yo animaría a su principal propietario (juanvivo) a revisar los que lo necesiten. Algunos simplemente hace tiempo que no ha ido nadie a buscarlos, pero es probable que sigan allí, aunque vendría bien echarles un ojo. Todos sus cachés (no solo esos) tienen una pinta estupenda. He podido encontrar alguno (no esos concretamente, pues la sierra de Madridejos es una visita que tengo pendiente) y me han gustado mucho. Sería una pena archivarlos, pues ya de por sí, algunas zonas de La Mancha son prácticamente desiertos geocacheros. Desde aquí aprovecho para agradecer el trabajo que hizo en su día escondiéndolos. Totalmente de acuerdo. Yo fui hace unos años y encontré 4 o 5, y me encantaron. Me acuerdo de uno que se llamaba "Mirador de la Mancha", creo que sigue allí, tuvimos que subir mucho pero mereció la pena, hay unas vistas increíbles. Tengo muchas ganas de volver a la Ermita y buscar los que me quedan. Estaba simplemente preocupado porque los veía un poco "abandonados"! Un saludo.

Hay unos cuantos cachés por la Ermita de Valdehierro (cerca de Madridejos). Cuando intento abrir las páginas de los cachés, aparece un mensaje diciendo que Chrome ha detectado software malicioso. Creo que estos cachés se deben archivar (hace mucho que no se encuentran y no sé si los propietarios siguen haciendo geocaching. A quién debería avisar?

I got a log last night from one of these teams, although the log dates back to August 2013?! Next week I will check the logbook, and if I can't see their name there I will obviously delete the log. Is there any way to report them if they are cheating?

Is there anywhere in particular that you want it to start? I could do it but the problem is that I'm in an area which doesn't have that many geocachers!

Hi Mark, Half the caches are mine, and half are Mr. Dewdrop's. I've never done the full walk in one go as I usually do the trip by boat, but I would guess about 3 hours without caches, assuming you follow the river, which is not the most direct route. As for how long it would take to do the caches, well, I seem to have spent half my life looking for Mr. D's Tricky Little Number II and I still haven't found it !!! Only one multi (unless you count Magna Carta, which is a detour off the path) which is best done walking downstream, Windsor to Staines. The train runs directly between Windsor and Staines, very convenient. Rgds, Andy Thanks very much Andy.

Hi everyone, I'm heading over to England with my gf (who's Spanish) next month and am thinking of taking her to Windsor for a day, which I could combine with a visit to my grandparents who live in Staines. I've noticed that there are quite a few geocaches along the Thames Path between the two places... Has anyone here done that walk? How long does it take roughly (walking at average speed)? And would it be better to go in a certain direction, or does it not matter (as I've noticed that there are a couple of multi-caches and it would be silly if we had to go back on ourselves all the time). Any advice would be most appreciated Thanks, Mark.
