  1. So is it Jomarac5? Link to Vancouver Transit: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=7d0749fb-d20d-49fd-95e8-c9424f73ffeb Seekerbc posted on September 17th an email from the geocaching.com notify bot of a find by Jomarac5 and in the message he was talking like a pirate (ye, arrr, matey). That post has since been edited by Seekerbc who now claims he knows who it is followed by "Hey J5". - edit - this is not an accusation or a flame. this post is simply an update after seeing some developments in the investigation of this mystery. _____________________________________________________________________ Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. 4. Garmin's are by far the worst. There is no coverage of Whistler, BC and the maps are over 3 years old now. I use MS Streets and Trips 2003 and it is pretty good. I live in Vancouver, BC so with mapsource and streets and trips my area is nicely covered. _____________________________________________________________________ Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. 5. FRS radios are great for keeping in touch. I have a set of 4 and bring them with me to trips, events, and other outings. The subchannels are a must because without them you'd hear everyone on that channel whether they're using sub-channels are not. I'm a ham radio operator too so usually I'd use my 2m radios HT's and operate on VHF. The only problem with that is none of my friends or family are licenced so sometimes all we got is FRS. By the way the range should be roughly the same. All FRS radios transmit at .5 Watts and the antenna must be permanently attached to the radio. _____________________________________________________________________ Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. 7. Interesting. I haven't really chatted with any other cachers online and none of my friends geocache so I'll give this a try. - Pat Acuracura@hotmail.com _____________________________________________________________________ Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. Thank you.

C'mon, what do you think would happen if a 40 year old man was lurking around a schoolyard full of kids? At my kids school, if there is ANY suspicious looking people on the grounds, they will immediately call the police. Even if just innocently caching, I don't want the agravation and embarasment of answering police questions. Schoolyards and playgrounds are just not good places to put caches. There's lots of parks around that have places where you can do the same type of cache that you are doing. You can go ahead and put your caches in these places if you want -- there's no rule against it -- but I won't be doing them. ***** I agree that it may be suspicious to be lurking around during school hours. That is why I placed this cache in the summer time. There is no school right now and when it returns then there is always time to do it when classes are not in session. I understand a school probably wasn't the best place. I'll try to pick a better spot next time so the cache will get more traffic. Thanks for your input Jomarac 5.

You'll find that caches placed at elementary schools and playgrounds won't get hit as often as others. I certainly won't do a cache like this during the day. ***** True. Even when checking up on it I have to go at night. Even though school is out for the summer there are still kids always playing around there so its hard to find a good time to go. I went to check on it at 200 hours (2am) and there were some teenagers drinking and smoking (cigarettes and perhaps marijuana) so I was unable to check on it. I guess the only good time is after the sun goes down, before the teens come out. I hope to place an equally clever cache somewhere in the marpole or oakridge communities soon. I was going to start a topic wondering why so few new caches have been turning up close to home lately. Vancouver needs more new urban caches. I recently placed one but it hasn't been visited very much. Only 7 finds in exactly 2 weeks. I thought it was quite an interesting place but I guess there are too many people around to do it during the daytime. I do agree though that BC's divorce trend is increasing, as well, geocaches are dense in south-western British Columbia. Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. Thank you.

Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at http://www.ham-radio.ca. Thank you. Because Geocaching uses miles to measure Travel bug distances. It's easier to stay with miles that convert to kilometres. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anyone can go to a Tupperware party but it takes a special skill to hunt plastic containers in the wild. I see. I guess I'll just use a calculator to convert the miles to kilometres. Thanks for clearing that up. Please visit the Ham Radio Forums at www.ham-radio.ca. Thank you.

  14. The price for the unit itself is not bad. But the accessories are rather expensive. $50 for a simple cable and the memory cards are just overpriced flash memory. The $150 maps are really expensive and the latest Canada MapSource is 3 years old! There is no point in buying a mapping GPS unless you got another $200 to spend on maps and memory. 15. I'm interested. Please keep me posted. Acuracura@hotmail.com We should choose a place that has no age limits. What if someone on here isn't old enough to drink? Don't get me wrong, I'm 19 and legal but I'm just considering those geocaching kids out there.
