  1. I agree, if it is raining on the weekend then I am caching in the rain. But, lightning will keep me indoors. Got some nasty lightning in Ohio. Those metal ammo caches probably arent a good bet to be holding when you hear thunder....
  2. Your pictures of New Mexico fall brings back wonderful memories. We lived in Jemez Springs in the 80's, owned a couple of horses and LOVED our horseback rides out into the woods. Beautiful country!
  3. GCK5NP Cards and Toys is a cache that the owner said they would repair on November 26, 2006. They have not been back since. The cache location is in a wonderful park that I frequently visit. The caches located in this park are very popular. I would like to adopt this cache so that this cache is made available to others once again. How would I go about doing this? I have commented on the site but there has not been any response from geocaching.com. I also sent a request to adopt to the owner but they have not responded either. What should I do now?

  5. I am a noob and do appreciate this thread. My first few cache finds were all adrenaline and not focused on where I was. Bushwhacked everything. I am pretty sure I did not permanently destroy the landscape but definately changed it a bit temporarily. After a few experiences, I began to take the time to appreciate the surroundings around me and instead of bushwhacking my way into every cache, I am now taking my time to find the easiest route on the surroundings..and my body. But it took a few times to figure out the way the GPS works. (A straight line is not necessary) This sort of search has added to my enjoyment of geocaching.
  6. Isnt it amazing? This is one of the reasons that I also enjoy urban caches. They may be in an area where there is no new area to explore but the thrill of searching without "getting caught" is exhilirating. Depending on the time of the day, these caches can be either the easiest find or the most difficult!
  7. What is your favorite thing about geocaching? I have to say, for me, it is that it introduces me to wonderful outdoor areas that I never knew existed!
  8. Have you found all the caches in a 10 mile radius from your home yet? If so, how long did it take you? And do you wait eagerly for new caches to show up or have you moved over to being the cache placer for your area?
  9. My geohound loves to go caching with me. Unfortunately, unless the cache moves or it has food in it (which of course they never will) he doesnt help me find any. However, he helps in many other ways to help me find the caches. He gives people watching me enter and exit the bushes a sense of security that I am "just walking my dog and letting him do his business in the bushes" and not some predator lurking in the bushes. If there are mugglers nearby, I can use him as an excuse to wait and let them pass by as he sniffs around. And he is big enough to keep any potential "nasty-sorts" mugglers a safe distance away, letting me enjoy geocaching in safety! The only drawback I have had is trying to keep him on a leash when negotiating tough terrain. He is developing my balance though!
  10. I was the one to drag dear hubby out geocaching. I had to make it a Mother's Day gift request from him and the kids to me! The kids (teens) still are not excited about it but dear hubby likes to join me now. I am still the most obsessed. I recommend that you find a couple of caches first before asking wifey to come along. Make sure it is an easy trail-no bushwacking or bugs and stock it with lots of little things that your wife would love to grab. These first few may sell her and she will be joining you to try to find that one cache with sweet stuff.
