  1. I live in Colerain Township, largest township in the state, just north of Cincinnati. Colerain is the home of the Colerain Cardinals high school football team. Hopefully they will win the state title this year. GO CARDS!

    Paper Caching

I used to print off the cache page(I have 2 binders full of them) but now I write the cords. and note any useful info from the logs and go for it. I have a PDA and have considered using the options for it but for me, it's just as easy writing down the cord. and notes.
  3. I was going to make a cache out of a fake boulder until I saw the prices, WOW, they're expensive. The one I was looking at was about $100. Maybe I can get my brother-in-law to chip out a real boulder on the prison farm.
  4. Thanks for all your help. I'll try some of your suggestions.
  5. I have a TB in Germany but don't speak German. Is there a way translate the posts through gc.com or do I go to the library and get a book.
  6. I recently bought a walking stick at a local craft; town, mall, market(Metamora, IN) It was everything I thought a walking stick should be: light weight wood, slightly crooked like a tree branch and cheep, $7. Until I tried to put it in my car trunk, it was about 4in too long. I could cut it but I don't want to. I should have bought a collapsable shaft.
  7. Sounds like a good idea to me. Try posting on some of the Oh club boards to see if there is any interest. Here's an idea, add a dollar or two to the entry and give the proceeds to the ODNR.
  8. It depends on what part of town you go to. To the north and east not to bad, but in my yard they are terrible. I shoveled a wheelbarrel full one day around 2 trees, 2 days later there were twice as many. This is no lie, there's a hole in the ground about every 3 sq in. Today my son and I were taking turns shaking them out of the trees and batting them with a wiffle ball bat. They also make a screeching mating call, it sounds like a siren going off. Local TV measured the noise with a decibal meter but I don't recall what it was, maybe around 97 decb. When your around as many as I am, the dead ones start to stink. At least they can't hurt you, just annoying as hell. They'll be here till the end of June.
  9. It's a long story but in a nutshell heres what happened. At a CITO event some of the oldtimers decided to form a club, all was good. At the first meeting committiees were formed, one being Caches of Concern, which was interpreted many ways. This is when things got out of control. I'll stop here.
  10. I've spent most of my money on whiskey and women, the rest I just wasted. A caption from a poster in my Dad's basement bar.
  11. Mayflies are like large mosquitos, mostly all wings. Cicada bodies are half the length of your little finger. I'm glad I'm not a 4leafclover cus I'd be eaten alive by the cicadas! If you survive their attack 4leaf, I'm looking forward to your battle stories with them. T10X
  12. In Cincinnati Webling is closing in on 1000, Ladybuggers and Draegon are over 1000 and Dliming & Crew are close to 2000. Those are just the ones that I know of, there 's probably more. If I get busy I may hit 100 this year.
  13. I cache in style with a Buick Regal. It goes where ever I want to go. Usally to a easy 1/1 It does have a power sun roof for when I feel adventurous. I also meant to go caching today but it's our wedding anniversary, so I spent some quality time with the Mrs. shopping. After 17 yrs. a man learns his limitations.
  14. I've been to Lake Erie about 15 times in July and have seen the mayflies. I've heard the stories about using the loaders to scrape them up but have been lucky enough in all my visits not to witness it. At least the mayflies are quiet, when the cicadas arrive it will sound like a alarm clock going off 24/7.
  15. Cincinnati is expecting the 17yr brood X cicada invasion mid May. Experts predict 5 BILLION of the bugs. Ought to make for some interesting cache logs. I remember as kids playing baseball with them. One would stand ready with a wiffle ball bat while another would shake a nearby tree. Whoever hit one over a marked line would score a run. How do you plan to deal with these pests?
  16. I'm also a leftie, as is my son. I pretty much do everything left handed- shoot, type, bat, use a knife. About the only thing I use the other hand for is working the mouse and twisting caps off longnecks.
  17. I started doing our 03 taxes this weekend and realized I was a few deductions short of getting a big check. I was wondering if I could get away with deducting the cost of GPS, PDA, computer, internet connection, gas, car mileage, containers and swag as a medical deduction(mental health)? What do you think?
  18. It was 3 below zero this morning, warmed up to 19 when I went to our club Winter Feast Event Cache this afternoon along with about 30 other geofools.
  19. I have 428 within 50mi and 1528 within 100. Looks like I have some serious caching to do with only 60 some finds so far.
  20. I just heard this on the news. A group of fishermen were stranded on a iceberg when it broke away and were saved by calling in their cordinates by cell phone. This happened on Lake Erie. Maybe they were fish caching?
  21. Sometimes I find where my wife hides my nads and I just tell her I'm going caching for awhile. This usually happens after my chores are done.
  22. I'll have to have my GPS on board on our Las Vegas trip in April. That ought to have the tripometer spinning.
  23. I did the check thing also, it's been 2.5 weeks so far.
  24. I don't go on trips out of the city but I'm usually out on service calls around town and if time allows I'll hit a easy one. I've been paid double time to cache hunt.
