  1. We use the kind that are popular with the scouts. They are bright orange, hollow metal, that have clear plastic tubes inside with...1st aid kit, space blanket, mirror, matches, whistle, etc.

We find them very good for testing bushes for critters...rattlers for instance...but then if I found a rattler it'd be to busy to bite me...wiping of the....welllllll lets say it would be very wet... icon_rolleyes.gif

AMEN...there are a lot baby boomers and disabled people out there that can't do the 4/4 5/5 anymore (heck even 3/3's), but have the finances for this sport. Virtuals are one way of participating in this sport without physical danger to the participant.

I hope this site takes into account the value of these members...and does not do away with the virtuals...it would be a real disappointment.

I myself have been more pleased with finding virtuals and the information they bring, then finding some of the caches full of junk. BUT, it all come down to the hunt..nothing more, nothing less. If you do a google search from your chair and claim the find, you are the only one that has to live with your conscience....

  4. I have just the opposite problem.

I have 3 virtuals, and in the last 6 weeks have had 4 finders contact me with answers...I sent email back and told them to log finds...they never did...even after 2-3 emails on my part...can't for the life of me figure out why they would take the time...then not log ! icon_rolleyes.gif

  6. I would report it as needing to be archived if it is in "really poor shape or unattractive"

Tell GC you are willing to adopt the cache and go from there...if you are unwilling to adopt, the cache will need to be archived anyway...find a cache in this shape is discouraging for new cachers, and should be taken care of... icon_smile.gif

Don't know Sept1c, but there a plenty of site links showing up that might be able to tell you.

They are very interesting, and if you are planning a hike or 2day trek its nice to have a site like these to check forecast...specially if you are tracking your course...

  8. Paul Harveys radio broadcast today said that scientist report the largest formation of sunspot concentrations seen in years...it should reach and effect satallite reception tomorrow 10/24...for all cell phone and GPS users.

Just thought you might like to know, if you are going caching you might have a fun time with your GPS.

  9. Sounds like great fun!

You might look for inexpensive compasses or binoculars for party favors. Or if your budget allows, go to the local lumbar company and get some one inch dowel rods (or broomsticks) about 52 in. each and let them color them with permanant markers with their names, symbols, etc....under supervision of course...they then have their own hand made hiking sticks ! The Dollar store in Artesia might be able to help you there...

    Have fun with it!

By the way...woof & I live in Artesia too icon_biggrin.gif
