  1. I like Cardinal Red's idea concerning "active geocache" profile. I have used this profile before and actually have it saved under "Bike Ride" I just never understood what it was pointing at before. Thanks CR, now I get it. I still would prefer that it would just ignore the geocache altogether and point to, and give mile to, the destination selected. That was how my eTrex worked. Would it make a difference too, if I had street maps, I am using the TOPO maps?
  2. Can someone tell me how I can setup my Garmin Oregon 450 to target other locations, beside a geocache? For example, I am on my bike and I want to go find geocache x. After I find it I decide I want to go to a town near by called Brick. I set the Oregon to target the town of Brick, and then head out. However, the GPS continues to send me toward geocache x. Any ideas?
  3. I have never had much luck with any search I have attempted on here. I either get way too many, that have nothing to do with what I am looking for our I get nothing.
  4. I am considering purchasing a different GPS, and was wondering about the Earthmate PN-60. Does anyone on this forum own one and if so what are its pros and cons? I want to use it for geocaching and cycling.
  5. If you could get GSAK on your iPad, how would you get the data sent to the iPad? You can't plug a USB into it. Very restrictive.
  6. I seem to remember that there was a link on the right-side of the profile page that allowed you to 'friend' another player. I can't find that now. I have gone to the other players profile and I do not find a link there either. Is this being handled differently now?
  7. I want to purchase a good Topo map for my Oregon 450. I live in NW Indiana, and cache primarily in the Midwest. What map program should I buy? I have the Eastern US on an mini SD card presently, but it is about 8 years old or more. Is it better to get the 24K or is the 100K descent for geocaching?
  8. When I send caches from GSAK to my Oregon 450, the ones I loaded prior to this disappear. For example, I want to go geocaching in Glenwood. I send 1,000 caches to my GPS. I also want to do some geocaching in my home town, so I send 1,000 caches from the Home Data base to my GPS. When I check for the caches in the Oregon, the ones for Glenwood are gone. Only the ones for home are in there. I do not have "Clear GPS before sending" in the GPS setup, checked. A few months ago all the caches would just remain in there. I used to have caches for Glenwood, Grand Rapids, and Home in there all at the same time. This was up to 3,000 caches. The Oregon is supposed to hold up to 5, 000 caches and 2,000 waypoints.
  9. I finally found the time to switch from Firefox to Google Chrome and that fixed my problem. Thanks for the help.
  10. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I see 58 people have viewed my post but no has offered an explanation. I am talking about the link toward the bottom of the cache page. There are several listed there. The top one is Geocaching.com Google Map. I like to use this to plan out my hunts, because you can see several caches in one location at the same time. But now all I get is a blank square, where the map is supposed to be.
  11. The Oregon 450 holds 1000 waypoints and 5000 caches. They're different. Well, gooooooooolly Sargent, I didn't know that. Thank you. That explains it.
  12. I thought the Oregon 450 would hold only 1000 waypoints. I keep sending more Geocaches to it and the old ones are still there. For example, I was in Grand Rapids, MI last week and loaded 1000 caches into my GPS. When I checked all the caches I had loaded last week for Illinois were still in there too. Today I loaded the caches for Home another 1000. All the caches for GR are still in there. How can I find out how many geocaches are in there? By the way I am using GSAK.
  13. I just couldn't resist! I have always wondered why undertakers never placed the coffins in the ground vertically? It seems to me you could bury a lot more deceased this way and therefore sell several more plots. Granted, it would be a bit more challenging to walk around each plot, but this method would take up less land. I'm taking dibs on this trademark or patent.
  14. When I click on the link Geocaching.com Google Map I am sent to the map page but the map doesn't load. The key on the right side is there, but there is no map. At the bottom it read "Done" I recently had my computer reformatted. Could it be possible I need to add a plugin?
  15. I have a Oregon 450 also. It only comes with base maps. If you want the maps you need to get the Oregon 450T, which costs about a hundred dollars more. Or you can hunt around for a deal on maps, which is what I'm doing.
  16. When I am out in the field I like to type field notes into my GPSr. I always did this with my Etrex and never had a problem finding them. When I returned home form geocaching the other day, I couldn't find the notes I had typed into my Oregon 450. Do I need to upload these to my PC some how? The manual doesn't provide any guidance concerning this issue.
  17. I have attempted to reset the odometer on my Oregon 450 several times now, but it will not reset to zero. These are the steps I have followed: Setup>reset>Reset Trip Data, Timers, Averages, etc. > Yes. Everything else results in a reset, but the odometer remains the same. As I move along with it on the miles just continue to add up. I like to measure the distance I travel on my bike, and I would rather begin each new trip at zero.
  18. I just received my new Oregon 450. I really like this GPSr. I can see the paperless feature is going to be great. However, the backlight issue is a problem for me. The first few times the backlight timed out I thought the GPS shut down. Now I see if I hold it just at the optimal angle I can almost see there is a map in there. On my Extrex when the light turned off I could still see everything just fine. In fact the Etrex without the backlight on is as bright as the Oregon with it on. Is there anyway to correct this? When I am on my bike I would rather not have to keep touching the screen to be able to read the GPS. Plus, if I always need to have the light on it really will burn up batteries.
  19. According to the reviews I had read concerning the Oregon 450, many individuals recommended using free maps. Now I can't seem to locate any of those reviews. What I need to know is where do I find the free maps? I purchased the Oregon 450 primarily to geocache. I would like to download a good topo map. I think I will still need a good street map also. I am really excited about my new Oregon 450. I haven't geocached with it, but I have been messing around with it almost nonstop since it arrived yesterday afternoon. I can see I going to appreciate the paperless feature.
  20. The rebate doesn't apply to purchases from Amazon either... Yes, I just discovered this when I read the fine print on the rebate. I haven't purchased it yet, so I will buy it from one of the other authorized dealers. I have never been able to find a deal on Ebay either.
  21. I think I will just buy mine at Amazon.com "$350.80 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver" Plus, with Garmin's mail in rebate the end costs will be $300.80. I doubt I would be able to beat this on Ebay. Gramin will not honor the rebate if you purchase a GPS from Ebay.
