  1. My better caches get loadsa faves. And get stolen often. Such is life. No one ever seems to steal 35mm film cans or shattered tupperware placed at foot of tree. Maybe I should create caches like that to make life easier? NOT A CHANCE IN CREATION! Respect those who go the extra mile? Please.
  2. Yup, several times. Mainly cos I was kind enough to accept adoptions from other Geoposeurs (sorry, that's French for CO) who were leaving this area. Why in bother? Cos they didn;t ever get permission to place a cache in that location. So whe I went back to upgrade a grotty shattered tube or tupperware and replace it with something much more 2014/2015/2016 the landowner got shirty with me. Or, at a fabby TB Hotel I created (which was once a pill container inside a black plastic bin liner) the Gendarmes cut the chains holding it down cos some Muggle thought it might be a drugs cache (happened 3 times and then I went to landowner & discovered no permission had ever been granted & they refused me permission cos of the trouble that cache had caused them (since 2007). The moral of this story? Get permission. And if you haven't? Archive your cache if you can;t maintain it. That allows someone else to get the permission you never did.
  3. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong! I live in a stranger Geoplace than most (these days). Spelling it out is often desirable - especially with my trad physical field puzzle caches few people here have ever seen before. Saves them being destroyed & 'owner maintenance'.Hence why I placed this post in Getting Started. If the only way to sign a log is to destroy the cache? Don't. Simply ask the CO for another hint in real time or when you get home. This CO sends them an extra hint for every DNF by default. Whether they ask or not. Fully appreciate I'm not reinventing the wheel. My peer group (90% French) think I'm odd for going the xtra mile always. #shrug
  4. This seems like common sense to almost everyone? However, where I am right now, it seems that no one bothers to read descriptions. They look at compass on phone or GPS device and go there. And then post 'better' co-ords to prove it was not +/- 3m from where it said it was. Eek! Behaving like newbies yet they all have more than 2k finds. Wierd folk around me. "Get to 10m radius and then put yer phone/device away and start using your Geo-skills!" Tell me I'm wrong.
  5. I do lurk. And read. And consider. And learn from a few. Only responding if necessary. :-)
  6. Nice question McTroublesomeMackFace However it's not always about remote caches in other countries. It's also about folk who've dropped out a few years ago and refuse to maintain or archive?
  7. I understand the problem. I'm one of those weird Geocachers who loves to create unusual & interesting cache containers bought for nothing at Boot Sales/Garage Sales. And then modify them to accept a Log of some description. They are my trademark. I also create Field Puzzles. In 6 months I've had 5 pretty damned exxy Cache Containers nicked (all had Faves). One was muggled by kids thinking it might be a drug stash. Fair enough. That can happen. Do I care my work keeps getting destroyed or nicked? A little. Yet I'll never be put off by the idiot minority. My most oft used Geocaching edit is "Temp disabled". p.s. I'm English but live in France. So my caches may not be special in USA, UK, Germany nor Holland. But they're unique here. I hardly ever use small black tubes nor tupperware of dubious quality. Which is why my caches get nicked. #shrug
  8. Thanks guys! I've now posed the same question to my local Reviewer. At the end of the day it'll be him/her who makes the decision. Discussing it prior to submission makes sense. Many thanks once again. I'm going for Traditional with Field Puzzle attribute. We'll see! :-)
  9. I'm currently creating what I consider to be a Puzzle Cache. Please tell me if Puzzle Cache is the correct description so Review will be easy. Or advise me what it should be called! This is how it works (without giving too much away). GZ is centre of 30m square in my own woodland (all that info provided to geocachers in Cache description). Inside that 30m square is a 3 Part 'puzzle' Cache. All 3 elements are within the 30m sq & visible to naked eye. (1) 1st Part contains 'tools' to facilitate Part 2. (2) Part 2 contains more 'tools' required to achieve Part 3 (which is exchange items & Log). Nothing like this exists near me (SW France) so I have no point of reference from other similar caches created by others. Trying to be a little innovative because most caches near here are 35mm film cans & small Tupperware boxes under rocks or in trees. Going to the next level
  10. Hi folks, I am having exactly the same problem. Came here and found the advice. Have changed my preferred dd//mm/yy in my profile to now match default on calendar. i.e. 10Nov2014 Still doesn't work. Anything else I can do?
