  1. Here is a picture of what I did to mount the suction mount on the dash of my Dodge Pickup, also notice the cut out section for the cord:
  2. With Cachemate, the info (less pictures) is filed in Tabs, O/I/D/H/L/P O = All info, scrollable I = Name, Category, Type, oordinates (not scrollable) D = Description H = Hints L = Log Page to log your find P = Prior Posts Very fast to navigate this way, that is the advantage of Cachemate.
  3. Portable lunch trucks, hot dog stands, taco wagons, and such. Maybe ice cream trucks too.
  4. Yes, that is pretty good but this one is just a little better. My neighbor in San Felipe, Baja, Mexico sent in his GPS12, and a few bucks to fix it. They sent hime a GPS12XL. Yes, great service from a great company, that is why I am on my third Garmin GPSr, I had a GPSIII, an ETrex and now the 60cs.
  5. I used Plucker before cachemate. It did a fine job for me. I had to have a lot of help setting it up but like you say, once it was up and running, I liked it. I switched to Cachemate because of the capability to log my find in Cachemate, on the Palm, and then export the data to memos they hot sync it to the desktop Palm program. Also, Cachemate is a lot easier to find a waypoint and GSAK can export data anyway you want it to Cachemate. Personally, I drop the GC in front of the cache name and put in type and container. I am sure there are other ways of doing this if using Plucker (I used something called cache log or something like that), but the Cachemate program has it all in one bundle. Its one of those things you have to try and see if it is for you.
  6. As the prior cacher said, Call Garmin. They have a set price for repair by the unit, no matter what is wrong. On my old GPSIII I needed a new screen because I wasn't using screen covers and this was mounted in my dune buggy. Ever time I wiped the dust off, it was like sandpapering the glass. This was a couple of years ago and it was $98 to replace the glass (the unit cost $500 in 1998). Anyhow, I send it in, they replaced the software, the glass AND front cover, the buttons and the back part of the case.
  7. It is a little late but GPSCITY has the same price but 'Free shipping' on orders over $400.
  8. A geodash point (commonly called a "dashpoint") is a randomly selected point on the Earth's surface that people can visit and then log what they found.
  9. I have a Dodge Ram Truck and mounted the suction cup mount, where Hammerli indicated, next to the pillar, on the windshielf, on the left side of the steering wheel. The only thing I did different was put two sided tape on the suction part so it would stay on the windshield. I ran the power cord under my dash cover and down the left side of the dash board right to the fuse panel. Works for me.....
  10. I grew up in Fremont and believe me, that is NOT why they call that town 'Berserkly'.
  11. Garmin GPSMap60cs, Cachemate, GSAK, Palm Tungsten E, priceless.
  12. Hey Clyde, it has been a while since I posted. I don't have any requests, you keep putting in all the great stuff. I can't believe I am doing PQ filters withing macros to automate the loading of the Palm and 60CS, keep up the good work, on a great program, it is really appreciated. Thanks again to you, and to Robertlipe too (I know he reads this thread).
  13. I take my batteries out at night and charge them. When I put them back in the next morning everything is as it was before I started. It sounds like your unit has a problem if it does it everytime and you are not putting the batteries in backwards.
  14. I pass out real estate flyers for a friend every once in a while. While walking the route, I turn on track log. When I get back to the office, I load the track into mapsource, print the map and it shows where I walked. They loved it....
  15. And turn on track log or you may end up on an adventure like we did two years ago. We got lost....you can go to this thread and search for 'wornout' and find the story. I learned a great lesson that night, and had a lot of fun. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...il%20dark&st=50
  16. Unless I don't understand what you want to do, this is already available and almost one button. I just did it. I brought up the database I am currently working with that I downloaded from GC.Com. Select 'Ctrl G' This exports the database in GPX format (Google Earth imports GPX files). Save it somewhere you can find it and bring up Google Earth. Open this file with the Google Earth Open command, just change the file type from their default to 'GPX' by using the selection box on the screen under 'Files of Type'. Bingo, the waypoints appear on the map. On my Google Earth, they are in 'Temporary Places' under the GPS tab in the Waypoints tab. Good luck.
  17. See page 64 in the manual for Map Datums setup. See page 55 for turning on WAAS and then Page 91 on how WAAS can imporve the integrity of the GPS signal. It worked for me.
  18. Don't feel alone, mine is doing the same thing. It takes a hard push straight down to turn it on. Turning it off is also as difficult. I haven't started using a pen tip yet but thanks for that workaround, I am sure it is coming.
  19. You might like what I do. I log the cache 'found' on cachemate when I find a cache. I fill out the Took/Left/TB lines. At the end of the cache day, I bring up the 'found' tab on cachemate and select the 'export' tab under 'Cachemate', near the bottom of the list. This sets up an export of that date to the Palm Desktop Memos. I hot sync, at home, and all the log entries are uploaded to the Palm Desktop Memos. I bring up the Palm Desktop program and geocaching.com and copy/paste the info. I know one can upload all the data to geocaching.com but I sometimes want to expand the log description once I am back home.
  20. I got hooked when I came upon another cacher with a PDA and a GPSr walking to the same cache I was, only, I was holding my GPSr and fumbling with a hand full of paper. I asked what he had and the rest is history. I see this same scene at geocaching events when someone brings out a PDA and a paper cacher looks on. The rest is history.
  21. Let's hope it is and the coordinates are posted later tonight, or by mid morning tomorrow, as I am going caching in North Stockton around 10 am.
  22. It appears that some people don't have any common sense, maybe they have ..... Common sense means something different to everyone. To me, posting the actual log shows common sense, posting the name of the cache in a thread that will more than likely start a hate mail campaign, doesn't. But then again, it is a public forum.
  23. Well, what was I thinking. I did this today with help from my friend and a lifeline. What a blast. This has been the most fun cache since Wait Until Dark two years ago and I have done a lot of caches since then. Hey Bill, thanks for the fun and help.
