    Okinawa?

I'll be in Okinawa soon and am wondering if anyone has some Geocaching going on over there. It's a small place, but has tons of wild terrain.
  2. Another thing worth mentioning is the declination of the region you are in. On the east coast it's about a west 10.5 degree declination. The GPS should be able to pick up the info of your area. A good little tip for doing the grid to magnetic conversions: LARS (left add, right subtract) Or west add, east subtract I hope this link works, it's a good visual: http://www.survivaliq.com/navigation/direction_par6.htm

  6. Who remembers the 30 packs of Strohs back in high school? Man, that stuff was el cheapo, but it would do the job for sure. Our claim to fame back then was the 3-30pack night amongst about 7 of us. For high school age guys that's pretty amazing! Ahh the good old days of the never quiting liver!
  7. I encountered one today in Crozet. It's above an orchard and totally surrounded by private farm land. The cache itself is virtual and very visible from a good distance, but the cache creator wants to know the name of some power device on the actual tower. No such luck. I turned around and got off the property before someone decided to use my truck for target practice. I drove a long way to get to that beeeyatch, so I claimed it as a find. BTW, the trip was made totally worth the while by a most rightous Mullet sighting!!! The guy had a mega 80's mullet with the nicely trimmed goatee and earing to boot. He was posing outside of a Texaco (one leg up on the wall); watching some people fix their car. It was bichin! 8. quote:Thanks, OlyHippy, for demonstrating that a link to a cache that hasn't been approved yet will take the reader to the "hide and seek a cache" page. Nicely done Oh yeah...huhuhh...that sucks!
  9. Obviously not related, but I didn't want to open a new topic for this - if you are intersted in previewing this virtual, feel free to give it a run. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=62130
  10. Go to the "my cache" section and bring up the archive copy of the cache. You can take that link and put it in your regions discussion board and see if people are interested in running it before it becomes official on the main site. It doesn't count as an official cache but some people may enjoy a chance to preview it before it goes public. Here's what I mean: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=62130

  12. When people talk about the eastside I assume they are speaking about the better half of the state. Pullman, Spokane, Walla Walla, etc.
  13. You'll never change the problem, litter is an American thing. Just think of it as job security!
  14. From this: quote:I'd appreciate it if we kept our topics more to our common points. To this: quote: I reserve the right to have valid opinions regardles of service. And I reserve the right for everyone, too. -Thanks by the way! And then: quote: I don't want anyone to be excluded as having a voice simply on the basis of never having served in the military. No one is excluding anyone here. I think there was a posting by one member, stating he wasn't in the military but had a father who was. Great, a common thread had been made! If you have an honest axe to grid with members of the military, grind it. Don't pretend to be one way about an issue only when it serves your interest and then back paddle when someone offers a logical counter-arrgument. I know you will probably feel like I'm personally attacking you, and I'll tell you upfront, that's not the case. quote:The best thing we can so is talk to each other. Exactly, which is what this forum is all about. We all like to Geocache, which is the common bond we all share. Some people are in the military and have a military background or interest while others have other backgrounds and other interests. But, it's main theme of Geocaching that drives all of our topics. On that note, please feel free to check out: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=60601 [This message was edited by OlyHippy on April 03, 2003 at 07:22 AM.] [This message was edited by OlyHippy on April 03, 2003 at 07:23 AM.]
  15. quote:service in the military is not a prerequisite. This isn't even about US citizens; this is a world wide sport. I don't think anyone said service in the military was a pre-requisite. This thread shows what some members have in common, and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Do you think being in the military creates a division? Why? Members of the armed forces are no different than those who choose other profession. They all come from the same towns as you and me. quote:No politics, no "support the troops", no pro-war, or anti-war, just state your service and maybe when you served. My roots in Geocaching come from my service in the military, where I was first introduced to GPS technology. So it does tie into our little sport, at least for me. That's it, no one is attempting to make anyone feel inferior...
  16. I've worked a temporary cache into my first (and only) multi-cache. It works as a follow on from the last Checkpoint in the original hunt. I'll keep it in place as long as people enjoy the follow on, but I can remove it if it doesn't get much play. This doesn't effect the original hunt either way. It serves as a bonus to the original "mission". I guess that makes it permanent and temporary at the same time...? I have a virtual cache in the works, which will work in a similar manner. It will have 10 actual checkpoints. But, in actuality, I'll have about 20-30 to work with; depending on the way it works out. The flexibility in the plan makes the cache easy to change and fun for the hunter. So you can basically use the same basic hunt while maintaining the option for a variety of different scenarios. 17. Double standard? No way, not on this forum! Yeah, right...
  18. I spend a lot of time, maybe too much, trying to understand people's motives; why they believe in the things they believe, what their motivations are, etc. As you know, I posted a couple of "Handgun" polls on the site. If you haven't figured out by now that they are meant to be absured, then the joke is definitely on you. Whether it's relevant or not, it confirms quite a great deal of my observations about certain types (not all) of people. You can post the most ridiculous tongue in cheek cr@p on the internet, and if someone has a strong enough agenda (not to be confused with conviction) you will get a negative response. Now ask yourself this: who in their right mind would allow or even support the placement of firearms in a cache? Yeah, no sh$t, nobody! Unless the fool is spun from the freakin funny yarn, no one in their right mind would even think of it; gun supporter or anti-gun supporter alike. But this topic, although sketchy in its relevance, points out the need for some people to forward their agenda. I could have posted a poll regarding second hand smoke in a cache and I'll bet I would have gotten a response from some die-hard anti-smoking fool; browbeating the very notion that we would allow second hand smoke in caches. Can you see how ridiculous this all sounds? I really enjoy the whole idea of geocaching, as I'm certain everyone on this site does as well. But, I don't attempt to further some agenda or project my values for the sake of my own selfish interests. Happy Hunting! OlyHippy
  19. Get over yourself. Do you think I need to consult you first before posting? You must be out of your mind. But the end result of my experiment confirms my assumptions. Those results, you'll never know...hahahah

  21. You know, your right, it's poor form for me to have excluded rifle shooters too. Sorry guys, I'll exercise better attention to detail next time.
