  1. There might be some alternatives to an actual slideshow. What is the purpose of the slideshow? Is a slideshow really needed for people to see in order to hunt your cache? Would it be sufficient to just add gallery images that people can view if they want to?
  2. Reminds me of the window signs I would see in cars in Boston that said "No Radio." No thief would ever guess that it's in the trunk!
  3. For one user 10 caches may be too many to maintain, while another user may be perfectly capable of maintaining 200 or more. Picking a random number of caches to deem the maximum is just not reasonable. Every person's capabilities are different. I agree that if a cache has a lot of DNFs I won't "waste" my time on them either. But I'll occasionally check the logs to see if it comes back on-line in the future.
  4. Given surrounding roads, would people driving to the area be more likely to be in one state vs. the other?
  5. OK, I got different results: One geocoin is 0.1" x 2" x 2". That's 0.000231 cubic feet. Five million geocoins is 1,157 cubic feet. (That's a cube 10.5 feet on each side.) One cubic mile is 147,197,952,000 cubic feet. Therefore, five million geocoins is 0.00000079% of one cubic mile.
  6. And it's not possible that some of the people tearing up the shack were not geocachers? Let's not indiscriminately blame geocachers for every bit of destruction of abandoned shacks in the woods.
  7. Remember that not every location has a positive declination that is added to magnetic. Some areas will have a negative declination that must be subtracted.
  8. Woo Hoo! The coins are on their site for ordering now. They're under the geocoins section, not listed under Reservations/pre-sales."
  9. Can you post an example of a cache with that in the description? Maybe someone else will know right away what it is, but I have no idea what "TRUE navigation" means. edit to add: I think MrsB is probably on the right track. Is this a puzzle cache that has you go on a true compass bearing from a certain point? Maybe you need a compass and have to know the local magnetic declination to convert the true bearing given in the description to a magnetic bearing.
  10. I love going to Maine on vacation. Ordered three coins. Thanks.
  11. Maybe at different zoom levels there are different amounts of detail displayed. Try zooming in to see if more street names are displayed. At wider zoom levels the screen couldn't display every street name on the map without making everything unreadable.
  12. Looks like these are not going to be sold. Yesterday (August 31) the website was saying that they would be for sale on August 31, but were not shown as being available. Today there's no mention of the coins at all. Any explanations?
  13. It's Monday 31 August, 2009 1:50pm EDT and can't order them yet. Hopefully soon!
  14. The new link works fine. Nice looking case. This is all making me want to get an Oregon! I wonder if the original link will work for you because maybe you're logged into the photo site, and maybe others aren't and can't access the image? Just a guess.
  15. That link to the picture does not work. I would like to see the picture if it can be reposted or something.
  16. No no no no no Coins are someone's personal property, just like TBs. They are meant to travel, not to be kept (unless the person who placed the coin in the cache attached a note of some kind saying it is a trade item or to be kept by the finder). Sometimes there will be a FTF coin left in a new cache that's intended for the FTF cacher to keep, but it should be clear to the finder if that's the case.
  17. I just ordered three. They look very cool.
  18. That's great! Glad you found a cheap part. My wife was so relieved that it cost so little to fix the crack in her phone.
  19. I understand; thanks for the explanation. I see some other cool coins on your site that are open for reservations (like the Earth Compass). I might order one or two. Thanks!
  20. I just came across this thread. I tried to use that website to order a few of these coins but one can no longer place pre-orders. It says the coin will be on sale on August 31. Is this like some of the other coin sites where only a few additional coins are produced and buyers don't have much of a chance to order one when they do go on sale? Or should I expect that it will be possible to order some come August 31? Thanks. edit to add: Just read through the rest of this thread and saw that "some extras" will be available for sale. Maybe I just don't know much about coin vendor's process in general, but why to vendors seem to only make so few additional coins following the pre-order process? I've seen this on other coin sites where if you didn't get in on the pre-order you were essentially out of luck because so few additional coins were made. I'm not trying to sound sour grapes, it just seems that a company should make more product.
  21. That attitude is one reason why people in other countries may dislike Americans, because many Americans go overseas and expect the locals to speak English. When you were in France, did you have the same attitude when trying to communicate with the locals? If you did you probably didn't get very far with them. Most of the world doesn't revolve around Americans and the English language. For a cache hidden in the U.S. would you write a cache description in French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, and every other major language? (Hmmm, that might actually be a good idea.)
  22. My wife dropped her BlackBerry and had a similar crack in her screen. She went to a Sprint store and they said it was just a crack in the screen cover, and that they could replace the screen cover for $15. She just had to wait a couple of weeks until they got the right part in stock. You might want to go into your carrier's local store to see what they can do for your unit. Good luck.
  23. Oh, I see. I had read the original post and not the cache page. The original post said that you must read the cache page to find the lock code. That's why I said it would not be a puzzle. After reading the cache page I agree that it definitely is a puzzle cache. BTW, I do like the puzzle he created. Would be a nice one for a family to do.
  24. I have found three caches that required a combination to be entered on a lock in order to open the container. I believe all three were listed as regular. I don't think a combination lock makes a cache a puzzle, a mystery, or an ALR cache. You just have to know the combination which is openly provided on the cache page.
