  1. I think the difference is that if an image is uploaded as part of a log then it can be clicked to view in larger format. If you're the owner of the cache then you'll have to create a new "Note" (or edit an older existing note that you may have created) and then attach the image to the "Note" log entry. People logging as a find do the same thing to add a clickable image, i.e. the image is part of the log entry.
  2. That seems to have worked. I had to double-click what I thought was the correct image to get the ability to click the trash can, which is why I was having the problem yesterday. But for whatever reason doing this seems to have deleted the incorrect image, which is what I wanted to do. Thanks mr007s!
  3. I uploaded a new gallery image for one of my own cache pages. I then realized that you can't click on a gallery image to view it in its full size (clicking the image just takes me back to the cache page). So I added the image through a log and now one can click the image (the 2nd one uploaded to a log) to view the image in its original size. Now I have the same image shown twice on the gallery of cache page. So how can I delete the one I don't need? There is nothing when viewing the gallery to delete an image. Thanks for any ideas.
  4. Wow, a "Wallace for President" sticker! That goes back a ways!
  5. Where is it????????? Which, the cache that's an SUV? It is south of Nashville, Tennessee. That might be a bit far from New Zealand! :-)
  6. Some parks and battlefields don't allow metal detectors to be used. I guess in parks they don't want people digging up the grass, and in battlefields they don't want people to take away artifacts. Clearly with geocaching we wouldn't be digging to find a cache, but just having a metal detector in a park that doesn't allow them would be illegal. I imagine if a park doesn't allow them there would probably be a sign.
  7. I live just a few miles from that one. Will have to check it out soon.
  8. The largest cache container I have found is an old SUV in the woods. The largest travel bug I have seen is an airplane propeller.
  9. Regardless of 3 DNFs or 20 DNFs, there's nothing about that which by default means both (1) the cache has a problem, and (2) the owner doesn't care any more.
  10. I came across my first Pathtag last summer and didn't know what to do with it. I did what I thought was logging it (with the intent to move it on), and then received a nice e-mail from that Pathtag's originator saying that Pathtags are generally for trading and collecting, and aren't travel items. That person said that the tags may be kept by the finder for one's own collection, or may be left if the finder doesn't want it or doesn't collect Pathtags. I guess they're kind of like sig items, maybe. I think if you moved the Pathtag to another cache then no one should find any fault with that. It's still there for a Pathtag collector to find.
  11. ...And yet how many people spend days and hundreds/thousands of dollars on hitting a small white ball at a 4" hole from 450 yards away? Or watch people drive cars around in circles for hours.
  12. He must have logged it correctly. GC1WK84 shows a found log for him. Welcome to geocaching, tinsnips33!
  13. Actually, it can vary in any direction. Look at the west coast on the map you posted the link to. North to south can have different variances, as can east to west. It all depends on where you are.
  14. Are you calling me old??? OK, I guess I am over a "certain age"! LOL
  15. Sorry! On the main geocaching.com page there is a link for "Trackable Items." On that page there is a box labeled "Enter the Tracking Number of the Item:" In that box type in the 6-character code imprinted on the coin. That will bring up the web page for that coin. Click the link near the top right for "Add a log entry." For "Type of log" select "Retrieve from <name of cache>." Be sure the date you retrieved the coin is selected. Enter again the Travel Bug Tracking #. In the Comments box enter something interesting to add to the coin's log. Then click to Submit the log entry. The coin is now in your "inventory." After you place the coin in another cache and are logging the find on the new cache, you'll see the travel items (coins, travel bugs) in your inventory shown at the bottom of the page. Before submitting the log entry for the new cache, select the items you are dropping into the cache, then click to submit. The coin will be logged into the new cache. On the web pages for travel items it's cool to view the map of where the item has traveled. You can also take pictures of the travel item and post the pics to the travel item's page. It's a lot of fun to move travel bugs and coins. I have a handful of TBs that I own and it's fun to see where they go. Hope that helps.
  16. The correct thing to do is to retrieve it by logging the number on the coin, place it in another cache, and log that you dropped it in the other cache. The most important thing, though, is not to keep it. Geocoins, like travel bugs, belong to someone and are meant to travel from cache to cache. Have fun!
  17. "Super Fly got the Shaft." Did no one else get that?
  18. I did a Google search for "google map by latitude and longitude" and found the following. google result Once you have the Google map, just click the Satellite button and you'll have your view.
  19. I don't think a "rule" that some guy made up in 1568 should prevent you from doing something want to do in the flag design, or from changing a design so that it looks nicer. I do like the flag, but can't decide if I like the version with the large X or without. I think the size of the large X somewhat overwhelms the rest of the design. But the version without the X did look a bit sparse. Maybe a smaller X placed in the middle might be a good compromise. Great work!
  20. Is it possible that you're reading a 0 (zero) as the letter O, or a 1 (number one) as a letter I, etc? Maybe try some alternatives to see if you hit on the correct TB number. If the TB was logged into a cache then if you go to the cache page you'll be able to click to access the TB's page. If you still can't get the correct characters I would suggest that you e-mail the TB's owner with the problem. If all else fails, just put it back in the cache where you found it, since it does actually belong to someone. Good luck.
  21. What was wrong with leaving the Where's George bills for the eventual charity donation? WG bills are still legal currency with value.
  22. A search for "Blue Avatar" turned up some blue smiley-face avatars: http://www.themesdb.com/screenshots/avatar...milies_blue.jpg Hey, we're not getting off-topic, are we?
  23. The Illinios state page lists all caches in Illinios, how do you know it's showing you only Chicago? There are just short of 15,000 caches in all of New York State. Do you honestly believe that the city of Chicago has, within its limits, over 1/3 the count of an entire state? According to this page, there are 13,271 caches in the entire state of Illinios. According to you, one half of them are in Chicago alone. Something doesn't add up with your claim of 6667 caches in Chicago. On that same page that you cite if you scroll to Chicago and click 'get caches' you will see the number in Chicago. Today it shows 6,691, which is pretty close to the 6,667 figure that GeoGorilla cited and would account for a handful of new caches in the last few days. I don't see an amount listed for the entire state of Illinois on that page. Where did you see the 13,271?
  24. That does sound like a cool concept. Thanks for the additional explanation. A site that I've used for photo sharing is Google's Picassa Web Albums. You could create a link to an album and include the link on your cache page. Even if you can't get the hyperlink to work correctly, someone could copy and paste it into their browser's address box. Even without a photo sharing site, you can always upload pictures to the cache's gallery and people can access them there. I like NYPaddleCacher's description of a series of photos to navigate to the cache. Another interesting idea.
  25. I have found that with a wide variety of consumer goods (cars, electronics, more) the sales reps know very little about what they are selling. It's best to do your research about a product's features and capabilities on the Internet, then go out and look at them in person at a store.
