  1. This was added to the homebrew catalog at precentral.net: http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-apps/geocache-locator Wonder if this the GC.com app. The logo seems very familiar...... Has anybody tried either of these apps??
  2. Just tried to add my first bookmark list. I see no way to add the caches into the list. Is it something I'm missing or is the form not giving me all the options? I can edit the bookmark list name and description and that is all. There are options to view the list, create a pocket query and download Google earth KML. Ideas??
  3. Just found this on the CacheMate site... "Palm Pre (Web OS) - That'll be some time later if it's done at all, but in the meantime it has an emulator for older Palm OS apps. In any case, I would need to be able to get an unlocked GSM version for testing, and who knows when that'll be available." Cachemate is the only app off my old Palm that I would consider "needing" on my Pre. I'd hate to have that Classic emulator running for one app. How does the emulator/cachemate function for you using the Pre?
  4. Do all cache pages end up in the same format regardless of how they're written? In other words, if I use the online form to report a cache vs using something like html, in the end the page will look like others minus some fonts, colors, etc? If I click any page and look at sourcing, it's all in html. So, were they written that way or the system automatically converts everything so it'll display correctly? And, when a page is submitted is there a way to see what the page looks like prior to it being published? Thanks in advance!
  5. Cachemate works well on my Palm Tungsten E. GSAK (another program) will convert everything to a .pdb file and send it to the device. There is also a program that will let you send info from the palm back to GSAK. The registration fee on both cachemate and GSAK are reasonable. Most all info on using both has been covered here in the forums. Good luck.
  6. Same combo I use and I've been happy with it. City navigator is not necessary for geocaching but I would recommend getting it. If you're going to use it a lot in the car consider a dash mount and magnifier. Look at ram-mount.com for accessories.
  7. Try this thread geocaching diaries
  8. In addition to all the paperless pursuits for finding caches I log my finds in a moleskin notebook. I found it at Border books but they're probably available other places as well. Also try this thread geocaching diaries
  9. Garmin GPSMap76Csx. Probably compares line for line with the 60Csx. I suggest getting the "feel" for several units in terms of overal size and weight. After all you will be holding it for a while during the hunt. Screen size and resolution, backlight, color or black and white display are some other considerations. Number of waypoints the unit can store may be a factor. When I got mine I thought 1000 waypoints would be impossible to reach. Just 3 months into this I already have almost 300 loaded on my gpsr waiting to be found. You should consider one with mapping capability. While you may not use it for driving directions, it gives the maps greater detail, poi's, etc that may come in handy in case you stumble out of the woods in unfamiliar territory. I bought my gpsr originally for boating. I use it there, but have also used it for driving directions and of course, geocaching. Don't limit yourself to a unit only for "geocaching" or with limited features only to wish you bought the next unit up.
  10. I kind of use a blend of the choices; always start as F and read the logs listed on the cache page. At GZ I've done some of E and for DNF's I've come back and read every log (G) hoping to get some hint, clue, insight or revelation!
  11. ok - I've got my first results in thanks to you two! My error, while an easy one apparently, is spelled out in the quote you provided. I searched high and low for a faqs or tutorial on pq's with no success. Thanks for that link also! Next step is to work on getting this all on gsak and cachemate. First, I'm leaving to go seek a local cache or two! Thanks again!
  12. I can't seem to work the pq system. Every pq I run comes back with no results. I think I tried everything from basic (leave all unchecked) to in depth (check marks everywhere) when setting the pq up. What's the trick to getting results? Thanks in advance! Mike
  13. Ah, the great moleskine! I've kept a small one with waypoints, dates, and T/L records since the beginning (all 2 weeks so far of caching!). I also keep my notes in a moleskin notebook. I keep the cache name, coords, waypoint ID, etc. They are listed by find number. At the end of each month I tally stats such as total, most in day, cache type, or anything else I think of (maybe an FTF!). I find that it's much more personal to jot down notes about the experience or a particular cache. Sometimes you don't want to share everything in the on line log. Besides, after staring at computers, pda's, gpsr's to enter everything it's just nice to step away.
  14. It's not just me?! Today, after bushwacking back to the main trail I find my work pager is missing. After 30 minutes of searching (that track feature comes in handy) and four calls to the number I found it. I am now changing the alert to something other than 1 beep!
  15. Try the following zip codes in the area on Groundspeak seemed to provide plenty of options. Listed as closest two to Mariner' Landing and then in no particular order; 24104 and 24121. Others: 24161, 24176, 24092, 24184, 24101, 24095, 24523. Good luck.
  16. We're heading there about the same timeframe (7/21). Maybe I'll see you on a trail?! I haven't started looking for caches in that area just yet. What are you using as search criteria? zip code? google maps?
