Is FTF REALLY that important to people?

Don't write something on a public forum if you don't want others to respond to it. Agreed? -

How is pointing out a factual inaccuracy a personal attack? -

When she has Posts #17 & 23, and you don't chime in until post #25, how exactly did she 'follow [you]' ??? And you are post #33? please let her speak for herself. You belittle her when you try to talk for her. Lets not make it personal... I said nothing to you so you have nothing to say to me. Please don't attack me. If YOU wish to pm me then please do. I don't want to derail this thread. I'm simply pointing out a factual inaccuracy. -

Feel free to go back and visit, sign the log, trade (fairly) and enjoy yourself. Just remember that it's frowned upon to log multiple finds on the cache page.

For what it's worth, here's the disclaimer that I put on my cache page And the one on its sister cache Religion has no place in geocaching, and I made a point of ensuring that both of my caches focused entirely on history and architecture. There are actually a few other things that I would have liked to include in my description of The Divine Downtown Diocesan Tour, but I decided not to because they were beginning to cross the line. I also put this as my reviewer note to make sure that I didn't cross the line; Because of my disclaimer, there was no problem with my cache being published. CacheDrone knows that I'm a history nerd though, so I guess he believed what I said

Examples of what I consider to be a proper, well done Letterbox are any of mine (e.g. GC1MEA4) and JSDAFM's 'Welcome to Gatineau' A GPS must be integral to the hunt, but it doesn't have to be at the posted co-ords (and I personally think that it's really lame to do that). I gave a better answer in one of the other recent threads on Letterbox-Hybrids, so I'll point you there. I'll also reiterate my offer to make and send you a stamp if your LBH is of high enough quality. I really want to go to Slovakia & the Czech Republic one day, so who knows - I might find your LBH!

From the guidelines: Since English is not my native language I wonder if there isn't a difference between: "must have" versus "should contain" GermanSailor Thanks for saying this! I've argued in the forums that the language should be changed from "should" to "must". I think it's confusing and can (and has) led to misinterpretion. "Should" implies an option. Agreed. Furthermore, I really think that the guidelines should be changed to state that clues as well as GPS co-ords must be given to find the final. If the hider want to make it a traditional (and for some reason not list it as a traditional), and argue that it's both a cache and a Letterbox (i.e. cross-listed), they should be required to provide a link that would allow those who want to use clues to do so. If I see a Letterbox, I'd plan a trip around it. I'm always disappointed to find that the LBH is actually just a Letterstamp Traditional.

Many reviewers are pretty flexible, and they'll let a few feet slide. The proximity rule is important though to keep areas from becoming completely saturated. The two main reasons for the proximity guideline are that it; a) prevents a cacher from finding one cache, and logging the cache that's 12 feet away, and forces cachers to hide caches in places that do not already have caches. It has happened to me a few times, including my most recent cache. I just moved the final, and had it re-reviewed. It happens to the best of us, and there's no reason to get frustrated

So true If nothing else, going out for an FTF far from home gives you a good opportunity to meet some of the locals
-
If somebody is willing to put out a proper Letterbox (see GC1MEA4 for an example of what I mean), I'm more than willing to make and send you a stamp. Just give me enough notice, and remember that I and I alone determine what constitutes 'proper.'

... And when you're putting the pen back into the container, DO NOT put it in the plastic bag that holds the log!
-
Yeah... Those wouldn't be published anyway...
-
I'm sorry you didn't get the almighty smilie... Did you at least have fun?
-
Is there a reason that it can't be a multi? One of the nice things about a multi is that you can make some of the stages 'Question to Answer' waypoints, thereby bringing the visitor to the location you wanted them to see and using up fewer proximity circles. As cw1710 said, if they're in interesting locations and of varying d/t levels, fine, but for the most part they're not like that. As for why people like them... Uhh... a dozen smilies instead of one?

Use the ashes of the burnt log to sign the container. That's what I'd do

Why? How many times has this happened? If this is the first time, how long will it be until the next? 2 years? 3 years? longer? Actually most of my earthcaches were placed over 2 years ago and the reason that I stopped placing them is because it is worse than pulling teeth trying to get one approved... Over the past couple of years I have had to "argue" with folks in this same fashion more than a few times and I ALWAYS come out on the losing end due to the GC.com powers siding with the cachers that are most of the time try to log bogus finds. I am really tired of paying $30 a year which I have for the past 7 years to a company that has no intentions on listening to my side and actually taking care of the cache placer for a change. Without people placing caches this game is over! I have placed over 600 caches in my 7 years and for now will not be placing anymore, its just not worth it and niether is what I am getting for my $30 bucks a year...... I will get alot more fun out of $30 worth of gas in my Harley! Ah well, it's a shame that so many EarthCaches have to be archived... As I said, a simple letter like the one I posted above should be enough to convince them that 'learning has not occurred.' Anyway, as Narcissa said, hopefully instead of archiving your caches, you can find somebody who would be willing to adopt them. I'd even take one or two if you'd like me to (I'd need the answers though ). The one about the Copper mine looks interesting!

You failed to meet the logging requirements of an EarthCache, logged it anyway, and had your illegitimate log deleted. How, exactly, are we making fun of your family? No we don't have compassion for illegitimate 'found it' logs. Why would we?
-
Not all caches are for all people. I might be able to get to almost every cache (e.g. I'm probably never going to make it to GCMBEQ), and there are a lot of puzzles that I'll never be able to solve. That doesn't mean that they should be banned. As the OLGC often reminds us, 'Know your limit, play within it'

Yes, that is a backdoor method to figuring the general location of a PM cache, by using an unactivated cache page. Difficult puzzles, multis, and Platinum Member caches are other geolandmines. I'LL BITE... What's a PLATINUM MEMBERS CACHE??? It's nothing. -
Dear Groundspeak, I have reviewed the log in question once again, and have again determined that they do not meet the requirements for logging an EarthCache as 'found.' As per the EarthCache.org listing requirement that states that '[the] Logging of an EarthCache must involve visitors undertaking some educational task that relates to the Earth science at the site,' I have determined that the user who logged a find on my EarthCache has not met the requirements of that educational task. I came to this conclusion after examining the geocaching.com guideline that states that 'Logging an EarthCache find requires compliance with the requirements stated by the owner and the EarthCache website, including answering the required questions by email to the owner, providing original photos if so requested, etc.' The user who is requesting the restoration of her log has failed to meet my requirements, as I require more than two of my five questions to be answered correctly. Furthermore, at least one of the incorrect answers suggests that the player in question did not even attempt to research the answer. As the user did not meet the requirements of logging my EarthCache as per geocaching.com and EarthCache.org guidelines, I ask that you rescind your recent instruction to restore the deleted log. As has been requested of me, I have removed the requirement that finders post a picture of themselves at the site. Thank You. Sincerely, (Your name here)

Don't worry - It happened to me yesterday. Proximity issues happen to the best of us
