  1. For the record, I wrote my 5000 word cache page. The similarity to the Wikipedia entries is because I copy and pasted into Wikipedia, as my pieces were often better than the Wikipedia article was!
  2. Seriously, you are going to make me gag.... BLECH!! :P B) Narcissa... B)
  3. You are just another province and Obama isn't President, he the Premier. Canada and the USA are both countries in North America. I believe that Mexico is also North America. And then we have Central America, and of course, South America. We are all Americans. Some Americans, but far from all, are citizens of the USA. What do you propose as the demonym for citizens of the country to the south? Amerks?
  4. See GC209Y8 All of mine are unique! I refuse to even use cut & paste logs (which could be why I'm over 200 logs behind on my logging )
  5. Really? Too bad you're wrong. Take Gore-tex, for example. Or your GPS unit. Note that in both cases, water vapor acts quite differently from liquid water, and that has a big effect on the transport into/out of the container. OTOH, at least I know how to spell "mold." The operative work was "can" In theory, yes. In practice, no. Cliffy tubes just don't work in many climates (i.e. any climate with cold winters or a lot of moisture). I imagine that they could work in the desert though...
  6. Deal. Back on topic, I've been looking through the cache pages for a few Cliffy tubes that have been archived. It seems that another reason for the poorness of Cliffy tubes as a cache container, is that they become somewhat brittle after a few winters, and eventually crack when the lid is overtightened (as it has to be in order to get a proper seal). Once the crack starts, it grows, and this just causes the cache to grow even more mould!
  7. And if she speaks, I cannot? I don't understand, please direct me to your version of the forum guidelines. Except reply to narcissa, and then say that she followed you by posting a dozen posts earlier in the thread with a viewpoint that you disagree with. You don't own this forum, you know. Assuming it has the find rate of GCDFB
  8. Wow, nothing gets by this guy! Please stop derailing this thread and stay on topic. We have disagreed about the waterproofness? of PVC or ABS pipe... stop making it personal and attacking me. You're not making it personal? You've basically said that I'm not welcome to post in this thread (even if it's not in response to you!), just because I'm narcissa's partner. I'm free to post in any thread in which I care to do so. I don't care for your constant, unprovoked attacks on Narcissa, and I don't care for the fact that you would simply dismiss me as the 'BF' as though I don't have any thoughts of my own.
  9. You might want to inform all those Canadian mold removal companies then. They are all spelling it wrong, those fools!! There are a lot of people in Canada who use American spellings. I find it mildly annoying, but it's a reality of our proximity to the United States. As I've said, Mould is correct in Canadian English, and definitely in English English. http://www.toronto.ca/health/mould.htm
  10. It's spelt 'mold' in American. In English, we spell it 'mould' Hey boyfriend, get out of here. I'm a feminist and I can stand up for myself! Don't uppity with me Ontario Woman! I thought people from Ontario were Superior, or from the lake anyway... :) Didn't take long for the BF to get involved... I can get involved, if you like. I know that you might not read every post, and certainly think that if it comes out of Ottawa it is intended as a personal attack, but you might notice that my post was a joke aimed at fizzymagic. Canadians tend to use English English spellings (and I certainly use English spellings almost exclusively), whereas Americans have their own (mis)spellings for whatever reason. Fizzymagic made a joke about this, and I responded to it. As for the topic at hand, Cliffy Tubes make terrible cache containers. An ABS Tube might seal up well enough the first time, but over time as it is exposed to the elements, and opened and closed (sometimes improperly) over and over again, it begins to let in water. Once water gets into a Cliffy tube, it simply doesn't evaporate out of the cache. It just sits there and grows mould and other biohazards ( ), and eventually just turns into a mess. I have found a lot of them, and I can say with a great deal of certainty that they make poor cache containers. Not to mention the fact that they look like pipe bombs! An ABS tube might be good as a drain for your sink, and a cardboard box might be good for holding stuff in your basement, but neither make good cache containers. Some things that seem like they should be water tight just don't work as caches. Caches undergo very different stresses than many things, such as lock&locks and ABS pipes would in their intended purpose. I'm sorry if my presence in this forum has ruined your evening, but as I've said to you before, don't post something on a public forum if you don't want people to reply to it! And Bittsen, no. We spell it Mould in either case.

  13. That's not a nano! That's a micro that has lost its container!
  14. Several people have entertained the possibility that he is not a native Finn. The OP has yet to confirm or deny this. Believe me, there are a lot of people around the world who expect people to have to learn their language. English has historically been one of the worst culprits of this, and in a country like Finland where the official languages are Finnish and Swedish, with Sami, Romani and Karelian as recognised regional languages, there is no need to force people to write everything in English. I live on the border with Quebec, and I would not be capable of providing a French translation on my cache pages. If I wanted to hide a cache in Quebec, and for some reason Bill 101 and the Language Police made me put a French Translation on my cache page (Larger and on top, of course), I would have to convince somebody to translate my cache for me. There is absolutely no reason to institute a guideline that alienates around 1/3 of the population in a country like Finland, and probably much more in many other countries. It might not be self-centred, but the suggestion certainly is disgustingly Anglo-centric.
  15. I'd be extremely pleased just to have found a cache after 10 miles of bushwhacking! A 20 mile round trip would have to be good for my matrix
  16. I too hang lock & locks all the time. I take some thin wire (i.e. 18 or 20 gauge), and make a hook out of that. I put an end of the wire through the slot on both sides of the same tab (right in the corner so it won't interfere with the tab closing), twist the wire around the tab such that it won't come undone or cut anyone, and then twist the middle part of the wire into a hook. Sometimes I'll put duct tape on the wire hook, but not always... Here's a picture of my latest with a few local cachers
  17. i'm sure they're offered in school, i'm more wondering about whether one of them would be mandatory. and btw, apart from the internet there's another reason why english has a large international dominance: TV. some countries are non-dubbing countries, meaning movies and serieses on TV will be shown in their original language (english for the most part), with subtitles in the local language. in those countries (for example the netherlands and scandinavian countries) pretty much everybody will be more or less fluent in english. in the other counrties (for example france, italy or germany), everything on TV will be dubbed in the local language, and in those countries the percentage of people who don't speak english at all or only very badly is quite high. From what I've gathered through some very quick research, is that classes in a 'Modern Foreign Language' is compulsory for students in Key Stage 3 (Ages 11-14), and must be offered to students in Key Stage 4 (Ages 14-16) who wish to take it. English has to be taught throughout, with the exception of Key Stage 1 (Ages 5-7) in Welsh Medium Schools. Note that the National Curriculum does not apply to Scotland. I think that the National Curriculum for England, Wales and Northern Ireland might be designed to allow students to choose which 'Modern Foreign Language' they would like to take. Where are The Blorenges et al when you need them?
  18. Narcissa & I went across the river to see the Montreal-Gatineau game last night, and I swear they were watching me you two in Ottawa, are in the thick of the action there we plan to come to Ottawa for the Tulip Festival, maybe we can get together for a day of caching, will be nice to meet you two We should be around for that - Let us know when you're coming!
  19. Be careful with a term like 'Brits.' There are Welsh medium schools in Wales and Gaelic medium schools in Scotland, and certainly an opportunity to learn them in English medium schools in Wales and Scotland. There is also a Gaeltacht in Belfast, and Irish taught there. One other note on language in Canada - Despite the fact that the bill to make Scottish Gaelic an official language died in the Senate in 1890, there are still areas in Nova Scotia where the schools are allowed to offer Core Gaelic instead of Core French. As for the English, I can't really answer that question. I'd imagine that French, German and/or Spanish are at least offered in High School, if not elementary.
  20. How do I contact these language police? I want to file a complaint. I found a religious tract in a cache, and it was only in one language! I demand that all religious tracts in caches be bi-lingual! To find them, it only takes three simple steps; 1) Move to Quebec 2) Open up a shop 3) Put only English on your sign They'll come to you quickly enough
  21. Narcissa & I went across the river to see the Montreal-Gatineau game last night, and I swear they were watching me
  22. It's a puzzle, and yes it is allowed. I just got an FTF on a puzzle final like that a couple of weeks ago!
  23. Because the language police make us read everything in both official languages I agree with this though. Furthermore, I think that all cache descriptions should have to be yng Nghymraeg, Slovenčina, et te reo Māori. I'll get to work translating GC209Y8. As a monoglot Anglophone who feels that the English Government owes me Irish Gaelic lessons, I do find it offensive that there are still people that are so Anglocentric that they would want to force everyone to put something in English. Do you want to dust off the 'Welsh Not' boards too? Maybe we can make the whole world one big melting pot, and destroy everything that isn't just like us. A new world! A better world! An English world!
