  1. I don't know... I guess people just don't like it when they don't get a brand of humour that is foreign to them... Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!
  2. No, we all get it. It's just our opportunity to point out that it's hare today goon tomorrow. Meaning that not only will you be that person one day, chances are pretty good you are there already. Just like the rest of us. Would you be able to laugh at yourself with that other person, or would you feel disrespected? I know that unless it was actively meant to offend, I'd fall into the former category - Even then, I know that I'm not terribly good with technology and wouldn't be offended by comments to that effect. Furthermore, it has been my experience that Americans tend to be more up tight about 'respect' than Canadians, New Zealanders, Australians, etc. I'm not sure why, and we're certainly uptight in our own way, but do realise that even if he did laugh light-heartedly at his mother (and I'm not saying that he did), it wouldn't be seen as as big of a deal as it would in the States.
  3. There, there. Is okay... I think us Commonwealthers just have a different sense of humour.
  4. There's a good reason as to why I don't hide caches for that sort... One local cacher refers to my caches as 'Mega-Caches'
  5. I do. Living in the now is why something decided 5 years ago may not be relevant today. You can't effect change if you don't ask for it, and you can't credibly ask for it unless you have some facts to work with, thus the poll. you should start a new thread based on the poll and reset the poll to see the results now that ya got the one vote per user checker on it. ! Add an extra 'Yes' in for me, as Narcissa and I count as one if it's based on IP address!
  6. Go ahead and hide it there. It’s “unofficial”, and won’t count as a find on GC.com, but maybe it will be good for practice. I have a cache that can’t be listed, which I’ve used as a drop box for other cachers. It has never been muggled. In theory, you could have your cache as a kind of unofficial “Bonus”, using coordinates you’ve hidden in other caches you’ve placed. If this Bonus Cache then held coordinates to an official Mystery Cache, people would have to find it to get to the Mystery Cache. The Mystery Cache's page would be a complete mystery to most people. You still should respect some cache separation, since it will get confusing if people find the wrong one. Due to its weirdness, it may not be found very often. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t even try it. Never mind. That too is walking a fine line. If you did this, you would have to list the location as a 'stage of a multi,' as it is a physical stage of a cache. The first idea would probably be fine though... For the record, if anyone had the nerve to ask me to move or archive my cache, or tried to get me to adopt it to them in order to do the same, they would meet with a very scathing response...
  7. Now that is not true. Your account doesn't get suspended unless you are just a Basic Member. As a Premium Member your account gets downgraded to Basic before it gets suspended. hmmm...I wonder what happens if you get too many DNFs as a Plantinum Member...
  8. The real answer Yes... That's it... ;)
  9. Now that is not true. Your account doesn't get suspended unless you are just a Basic Member. As a Premium Member your account gets downgraded to Basic before it gets suspended. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute you can lose your account from getting dnfs? am i missing something No. You have it perfectly right. Why do you think so many people are reluctant to log them? Fear of embarrassment? pfft...
  10. There is a way to avoid account suspension...
  11. No, it's about not wanting to have to use multiple websites, particularly one that's not as intuitive as gc.com. You might be used to it, but Waymarking.com is an entirely different interface that many of us find difficult to use.
  12. Instead we got LPC or nano flag pole caches, fence post top caches, etc. If virtuals weren't discontinued, eventually there would have been power trails of lame virtuals. The WOW factor would be continuously pushed to the limit until they just eventually were overwhelmed. Initially they never allowed geocache power trails, until the dam finally broke. I suspect that was one reason why lame waymarks (such as McDonalds) were submitted and approved early on, because they didn't want to keep judging cachers ideas. Lameness is one reason why the Waymark site is disliked, and is the same reason why virtuals were discontinued... Remember, all of those lame waymarks would have been either lame locationless caches or lame virtuals if it wasn't for the other site. They were all submitted by mostly geocachers. It's bad enough that people get upset when reviewers enforce the guidelines as written, let alone enforce an arbitrary guage of WOW versus LAME. "If virtuals weren't discontinued, eventually there would have been power trails of lame virtuals." You cant possibly know that. Exactly. The 'WoW factor' would have stopped that from happening. For the record, I'm definitely in favour of re-established with the WoW Factor strictly enforced, but I don't think that will happen
  13. And how does that separate caches that are interesting to me from those that don't? If we had 900,000 categories of caches, there'd be no improperly listed of caches, now would there? It's hard to find really interesting caches, and it takes a bit of effort to find them. Don't forget that the proximity guidelines can also affect the number of really interesting caches. If I could hide caches closer together, I'd have a lot of caches that are really interesting to people who like local history. It's difficult to find areas in a cache dense area, and so I'm often left to wait for archivals in order to avoid annoying caches that are 5 miles away from the posted co-ords, and all of the stages. BTW, well done on editing your post to completely change it
  14. Uh... Run a PQ for micros with difficulty and terrain ratings less than 2, and centre it in an urban area? Also, on the cache page there is an option to search for 'Nearby caches of this type'
  15. Using a different type of cache is not a way to skirt the guidelines
  16. Yeah... That's right... That's why when Narcissa & I were stopped in a parking lot the other day I refused to get out of the car for a skirtlifter... Seeing the area(s) or things that the cache is intended to bring me to is the primary reason that I enjoy caching. The bonus of searching for a cache is just that, a bonus on top of the other thing that I get to see. There is a reason that I greatly prefer multis, and it's not that I get a smiley for it!
  17. That seems fishy to me. And a clear example of why Virtuals shouldn't be allowed. I take the opposite approach -- it's a wonderful example of what a well-done virtual cache looked like and it is one of the most beloved caches in the province. Certainly the most logged cache I know of (just to bring this back on topic!) Woah woah woah now people! This cache was started March 31, 2010! That was five days ago! how could so many people go to that certain spot in five days when regular caches take years to have that many logs???? It looks like a locationless cache, listed as a virtual, and the owner is changing the coords to move the listing around in different areas of a province in Canada. Everytime the coords are updated, the owner is also updating the 'date placed' entry to match the coord update. The listing has been around for years. Not quite. It's a Virtual Travelling cache. outforthehunt just moves the cache to another Alberta community every so often, and a bunch of people probably re-log it. Not to mention the fact that more people would have a chance to log it when it comes to their community. I bet the find rate goes through the roof every time it is moved to or near either Calgary or Edmonton. For the record, March 31, 2010 is the date it was moved to Peace River. I'm guessing Brass Caps are benchmarks and the coords to the virtual are listed at different brass caps in the province. How do you claim a find on the virtual? Interestingly, it looks like some cachers are logging it found numerous times a day. How does this work? My mistake! I was looking at the cache page some more, and its seems that you are right in that it's a Locationless mislisted as a Virtual.

  19. So, Is Vaclavak the most visited physical cache? What about the other cache types?
  20. That seems fishy to me. And a clear example of why Virtuals shouldn't be allowed. Why the scepticism? That cache has been around since at least the 21st of March, 2002, and is two kinds of grandfathered caches! The reason that it has been found so often is that the CO moves it around Alberta periodically (its placement date being just a few days ago indicates that it was moved to Peace River on that date). As a result of this practice, many more people will have the opportunity to find it. 1000 finds on an easy virtual after 8 years isn't that unusual, and with it travelling around the whole province , many more people have a chance to find it (some have probably logged several finds, not that I'd log it more than once...)
  21. Vaclavak (GCKN5P) might be the most logged physical cache - 4370 finds as of 7 PM EST today
  22. Can I log a 'Won't Attend' right now? Actually, that's not true. I might go (if I lived closer), but I'd only really care about the virtuals, multis and the like in the area.
