  1. Thanks for bumping, Beaver. Here's my account from my log entry. I went with a couple cachers from the east coast. You can read their accounts as well: BlueOrca, TochiHunt. We headed off to HQ in the morning (7 hours later) too--it was a great day!
  2. I don't know if this is related to the other date issue, but I've noticed that the calendar on the right side of the page on http://www.geocaching.com/my/geocaches.aspx (ie. Home > My Details > Geocaches Owned/Found) is missing some links to days that I have cached. For instance, in my case, there is no link to Tues, Nov. 13: java script:__doPostBack('MyCalendar','2873') I don't use that calendar much, but I do glance at it every once in a while to see how obsessed I've been with caching.. so it'd be nice to have complete information
  3. Ouch. I may be interested depending on when "the weather is right". I find Mailbox challenging enough without having to walk on snow (and I don't have snowshoes either). Only climbed it once this year.
  4. Yeah I was a little blown away with all the chaos. It was fun, but I didn't really get to meet anybody. 15 minutes passes by really fast too: trying to log, raffle, take pictures, etc etc. Oh well..
  5. Hey FuzzyWhip, I'll be making a trip to HK in mid December (5 weeks!), and am (tentatively) planning to go to Japan afterwards. I'll see if I can try to save your TB if no one moves it by then. I'm not a big fan of multis and I don't know how much time I'll have to cache in HK and/or Japan, so.. no promises! The cache is kind of off a ways too.. - MrMonk
  6. Yes, yes.. I'll be at the WWFM. I did a bunch of caching last weekend to make WWFM my 200th (and first event) cache!! Unfortunately it means I have to abstain from caching until Sat. morning Looking forward to meeting y'all!
  7. Hehe, hello! Yes, I hope no one takes my post the wrong way. I didn't mean to discriminate! Yes, Monk is where I got my name. I love Monk!! Still a child at heart, I guess..
  8. So I'm starting to get a little lonely caching. My geocaching friends are in the opposite side of the country and my friends here don't cache. :| Everyone else here seems to be either married with kids or retired. Any twenty-something year old cachers out there, or am I the only one? (I'm in the eastside Seattle area.) It would be cool to have a get-together of some sort (an event cache!).
  9. Most RSS readers have ETAG and/or conditional GET support, so it wouldn't be pulling the full feed with every single poll. Personally I would love a single RSS feed for my friends' finds/logs (kind of like Facebook's News Feed). Feeds for a cache listing (or a single feed for multiple listings) would be nice to have (but not as hi-pri) so that my inbox doesn't get spammed with mail. The "it doesn't scale" argument really isn't valid. Generally, well-designed systems are built to scale. I think it could be done via a pub/sub kind of system. GC.com already knows which caches I'm interested in. Everytime a log entry is published, instead of sending me e-mail, it can update *my* feed, to which I'll subscribe. (I've only spent half an instant thinking about this.) I would totally love it if you guys made *everything* in GC.com subscribable!
  10. I'm curious if/when pictures get garbage collected. Consider the following: 1) User uploads a picture for a background for his cache: "black.jpg" 2) User sets the background in the cache listing to "GUID.jpg" (for example: <http://img.geocaching.com/cache/0178a3c0-bf72-48ba-9fc7-2c762d890524.jpg> ) 3) User deletes picture from cache listing so that there's no link on the page. .. but, the GUID.jpg link still exists! Can we rely on the fact that GUID.jpg will stay around (and therefore keep using it as a background)? Or will this image (that has no references) be garbage collected at some point? Thanks!
  11. Also, it would be nice to have a link to a list of "the closest caches to this cache" (essentially copying and pasting the co-ords of this cache into the "Find Caches > Search By: Coordinates"). A link to the actual cache page from the WAP cache page would be useful too for the times when the cache page has pictures, or the lost 5 logs aren't helpful, etc. And if I log in from the button on a cache description page, I need to look-up the cache again. I'm kind of nitpicking.. but yeah, the WAP interface is awesome!
