  1. Welcome! Good to see someone else from my old stompin' grounds on here. I got my folks stuck on caching last year, and now they're maniacs. They're having a great time both finding and making caches right there where you are. Look 'em up --- Woof n Lulu. And to repeat what's been said...most important - water and waypointing your vehicle. The latter saved me from having a very bad day once.
  2. Well, if you've been to Garden Canyon, you passed right by a cache. There are plenty around here in some really neat areas. I trust you've looked in the 85635 zip code? My personal fascination lately has been in the Dragoon area. It's fairly remote even though you can see the highway. None of the caches out there are rated too hard, but the area is beautiful and there are some interesting things to see. Not sure what type of vehicle you've got here, some of these might not be good for you. I've found that I really don't need to plug in any actual routes, just the waypoints for the caches I want to visit. For some of the more out of the way ones, I print off (from MapQuest) a zoomed in map of an area with dirt roads since those aren't normally shown on regular maps and use it in conjunction with my state map. 3. I've got a 201 and really like it. My father has a Meridian Gold with all the maps and bells and whistles. Looks pretty nice. But when we were driving down the road, he had to have his hand either out of the window or right next to it to keep a lock. My 201 was in my lap and never lost signal. I've thought that I might like all the maps and stuff, but part of the fun for me is looking routes up and getting lost anyway. Maybe someday when I've spent more time at this sport I'll upgrade, but for now, the 201 is the perfect unit for me. Oh, and I love the bright yellow color and cute little gecko on the front. 4. My folks, husband and I recently found one of the MRE TP packets in a cache and got a chuckle out of it. But, I wouldn't recommend putting the heating packet in any cache. It's just a disaster waiting to happen. Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?
  5. Thanks y'all. The lip balm is in it's package, I just cut off all the excess cardboard. And I agree, I don't think that a communal balm is a good thing. I'd thought about people taking what they need vs. the whole package. Either way would work. I'll just try to remember to peek at it every so often and will take out the lip balm. Thanks again. I'll try to set out a couple this weekend. Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?

  7. I made a couple of the following up to leave in a cache or two in the area. Inside a soap dish that snaps shut, I put a small bottle of hand sanitizer, a tube of 30 SPF lip balm, and a snack size baggy with two antiseptic wipes, two ointment packets, some Q-Tip/antibiotic ointment packets, and a mess of band-aids. They're sealed with a sticker labeled "Ouchie Pack" and the whole thing is meant to be taken by someone who needs it. They aren't meant to replace a traditional first aid kit, just a quick fix with all the stickers and thorns in the desert, especially for people who take their kiddos caching. Good idea? Bad idea? Foreseeable problems? I appreciate any replies. Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?
