  2. quote: Guess that surveying is about more than standing around in the sunshine. Lots more! We sleep under shade trees in the swamp down here! It is better to not speak and be thought a fool than to speak and leave no doubt.
  3. I just started so it seems that I have a lot of catching up to do. My job allows me to travel around several counties here in sunny Fl. I am a land surveyor. What is neat is that I learned about Geocaching from a guy in New Zealand that wanted to buy a GPS from me on ebay. This game has been going on under my nose all this time! These caches are stashed in places I've been taking luch breaks in, and working in for the last 10 years. As to why I do it , I guess so I could say that I've done it. I love learning, and discovering new things. I've discovered that paintball is somewhat painfull, and can be expensive. Geocaching has proven to be good a way to spend with my family assuming I'm not caching while working! It is better to not speak and be thought a fool than to speak and leave no doubt.
  4. I have a Lowrance Nav12, a Garmin GPSII+, a Garmin 126 (selling), a Garmin 162 on the way, and the Garmin Etrex Legend . I love the legend. It has 8mb memory space which is a lot of maps. I like the Mapsource topo quads for my downloadable maps. I used to use it fishing, before the 126, which is now being replaced with the 162. I still use in the woods, and sometimes at work. I'm a land surveyor. The maps are nice if your not familiar with an area so as to get to the parks where the Caches are stashed. Nothing but good luck with the Etrex Legend for me. 6. Is there a simple formula for converting a 29NGVD to an 88NGVD in central Fl. I've been reading about Geodesy and we have had several discussions concerning this difference in the office. Several of the local municipalities have started requiring an 88datum, thus creating a liability havoc! Just curious, thought I'd throw that out there and see what bites... 10. Hey guys, I'm still wet behind the ears in Geocaching, and was just curious if any of you folks were land surveyors? The game seems very surveyesq. Fishnjerm
