  1. We had a log deleted 3 or 4 months after the find. Our writeup stated that the cache wasn't safe for kids as it was on the shoulder of a bridge and that you needed to watch the traffic. A note was sent to the owner and reviewer and we didn't hear back from either. We decided to forget about it and write it off as ignorance of the owner and inconsideration of the reviewer.
  2. Caught, oh heck yes. We have been caught by the US Border Patrol up near the Canadian border, we have been caught by the local judge, been caught by the local sheriff, been caught by the local police. All in different states and we haven't been fingerprinted yet.
  3. My MeriPlat died. I managed to get it up and running, kinda, but I get a message saying "no base map". So, where do I get a base map since Magellan stopped support for this unit back in '05?
  4. We use the IIIe and the only downside is if you don't keep a good set of batteries in it and it dies, Cachemate goes away. Then you have to reload it. Other than that it is a tough unit. Ours has been dropped on pavement and in a creek and it still works.
  5. We just placed a cache yesterday while it was raining so we didn't spend a lot of time collecting data points. I walked up to the spot and marked it. Then walked away and came back and took another mark. I did this 6 times then took an average. Today, we went back to check our work and were within 4 feet when the GPSr said we were at GZ. That is close enough for us.
  6. Ok, come on guys, don't get your fuzz up. As I was sitting here watching it snow, the thought just occurred to me and I was curious. I do believe the space needle bit tho.
  7. As a cache approver, they have access to all the coords to all multis and puzzle caches that they approve and publish. Soooo, the question is, do they take advantage of this knowledge under their real caching name? Seems like a lot of temptation to me. Inquiring minds want to know.
  8. Seems I read something like this but you sure see a lot of stuff on the windshields. If there is a fine, it won't be much. Now the court costs are another matter. That could run the cost up to a bizzioln bucks or so.
  9. Check E-Bay for a Palm IIIxe. They can be had for about 20 bucks. I found mine at Fry's a year ago for $19.
  10. Yep, I can download from GSAK to the Plat. I can also download the waypoints from the Plat to Easy GPS. Thanks for the link to Clydes forums. think I'll post there.
  11. In the past I could download waypoints from the Plat to a GSAK file. All of a sudden, the thing just sits there saying "downloading" but nothing happens. The only way to get out of the loop is Cont,Alt,Delete. I think it started when I downloaded the latest version of GSAK. Any ideas?
  12. Well personally I think everyone should have 2 Garmins. One for in front of the trie and one for behind. That way your geovehicle won't have a chance to roll while you use your Maggie to find the cache.
  13. I have used a hot glue gun with mixed results. Seems the cold weather makes it let loose. I have been playing around with 3M 5200 and that stuff won't let loose no matter what. It is used a lot in the boat industry and can be found in Home Depot.
  14. Been using a Plat since we started caching. Never have bothered with updating the software, still running 4.06. The Plat is easy to use, not to many bells and whistles.
  15. Maybe you should ask Buxley??? Ah, I see you don't know either.
  16. Having just found about about Buxleys, what is a "geodash"?
  17. We have done some caches where you walk out a mile in the sand to a lone tree. Nothing there and nothing to see along the way.Very boring cache. In the description for your cache you could point out something interesting along the route to the cache. Maybe a good watering hole, place for lunch or my weakness, ice cream. I say go for it.
  18. This isn't the "best" Palm but it does work for the paperless bit. We use a Palm IIIxe that you can find dirt cheap. Fry's has them now for 30 bucks after rebate for a refurbished unit. This and Cachemate work great.
  19. I have one but I don't have the cradle, I use the data cable. Haven't had any problems with it to date. At this point, you could take it apart and see if anything is loose or broken, you don't have anything to loose.
  20. Thanks for the info, I'll give it a shot.
  21. New to paperless, so how do I do this? I use GSAK and load records to Cachemate. When I find a cache, I move the record from the "active" data base to a "found" DB on the Palm. Now, how or can I get the "found" DB back to a "found" DB in GSAK? Looks to me like everything goes into the Palm, but nothing wants to come out. Thanks
  22. Do you hook up a PDA on your 'puter? If so, the hot sync can hijack the port. On the hot sync icon, right click on it then select exit. That will free up the port for use by the GPSr.
  23. been there done that. I've been skunked using a GPS
  24. For a minute, I thought I was in the wrong place.
