A hider really really wants to own a cache hidden on February 29th.  Being a good hider, they submit the cache page for review on February 22nd, asking their Reviewer to publish it on the 29th.  After the review process is finished, the Reviewer locks the cache page until publishing it on the 29th.  After publication, the hider changes the hidden date to the coveted leap day.

I do this - for pi day.... The system won't let you post-date a hide, so you need to get it submitted before, then change the date afterwards.

I just noticed one of my sons has a weird hide-date that needs to be changed - it was published this week, with a hide date of February. This is because we make some blank listings ahead of time, so when we hide at short notice or opportunistically, we have a GC code to put in the log....

  2. We've logged as a combined-team before - generally only if power-trailing.... only to save time and log space. To avoid confusion in this situation people should probably state who they are caching with and/or what name is going in the log, given these are probably powertrails the cut-paste shouldn't be too arduous.....

Of course I see this 2 days after I order something that's not that compact and Jetstar class as oversize....

We took our pole to the Adelaide Mega the other week, strapped to our ladder, as oversized baggage! :)

A week is not unusual.  Be patient.

A full week would be unusual around here....

It’s now gone past a week since my submission. No questions, all silent now! How do we get caches published?

    thanks.

Have a look in your 'unpublished cache' listing - is the status marked 'in review'. Also have a look at the listing itself - has the reviewer replied to you in a note with questions??

It is less because a circle is smaller than a rectangle with the same height and width.

Ok, if you need to guess 4 digits to open a combination lock, you need only 24 tries at maximum. Right?

Circle v rectangle - you're correct. I was in fact thinking this as I went to bed shortly after posting.....

Combination lock? They are generally 10 digits - so would be 10x10x10x10 combinations, not 4x3x2x1. On average you'd expect to need to try at least half before getting it right.....

  6. 10! would only apply if the digits weren't repeatable.....

There are a million combinations of the digits behind those decimal points - now mulitply that by whatever combinations of the minutes whole digits are applicable to the 3.2km radius of the puzzle.... this may be +/- 2-3 give or take, maybe 6 digit choices for latitude, 6 for longitude - that's c.36,000,000 by my maths..... could be wrong - I must admit my combinatorics can be way off!

For example, if you have only 100 possible solutions, you may try to brute force all of these.

Right. At that stage it's doable. Before I start plugging away though, I'll use the toolbox incomplete coordinate tool to narrow down spots to start with. We had a partial solve of one in NZ recently, I think we were three digits short, but one was less significant, and the tool plus hint gave us some spots on the satellite to try - second guess, bingo! The deductions in this sort of brute force can be more fun than the puzzle itself.... :)

I gave the image my usual going over, nothing. Given how sparse the area is with caches, unless that hint really meant something I wouldn't bother brute forcing anything.....

When you have plenty corrected coordinates on the map (mystery, multi, Wherigo, letter) now all are the same color. Why cache original color is not on the background? Then it would be much easier to look on the map where you have multi's or other with corrected coordinates.

    +1

I'd like to see a way to easily telling at a glance what the cache is - even just the normal cache icon with a symbol added?

  10. Don't you love it when a newbie asks for help at a cache....

    I assume they meant hint.

This is one of ours a fair way from home, and it has had 2 DNFs from experienced searchers, so I was keen to help anyone find it to save us a drive! I can forgive 'short-hand'/low-mannered messages sent at GZ. I must say I tend to add at least a 'hello/G'day' and a 'please' in mine though....

So I sent 4 quickfire messages giving them guidance while I double checked the hint and dug out a spoiler photo to send, which I sent within a minute or so of their initial message. What do you think we got back?

    Crickets.

They logged a find.... somehow I think we still need to check it!

I am curious though, why not found by will not help.  I seriously was asking how does an owner find his own cache?

You are trying to filter using 'not hidden by', which doesn't exist. Using 'not found by' won't substitute..... CO's can't log finds on their own caches (now) - that's why they appear in a search 'not found by'.....

A container swapped out for an inferior container, with the log and other contents transferred to the new container, is rare. Especially for a mundane micro (when this happens it's usually an ammo can).

What bothers me about this situation, is that it seems to suggests the container thief could be a cacher.....
