  1. I put those coordinates into the reviewer toolset and ran a proximity test.

There has never been a cache container, including a hidden waypoint for a multicache or puzzle, within a quarter mile of those coordinates - published, never published or archived - here at Geocaching.com.

    Final Results...

It's an archived Geocache! GCZ1PP - Iron Jackass

    OOPS...

  2. I too would use an "Ignore all caches by XXX cacher".

Here are several caches in my area who's caching style is 180 degrees from how I play this game. These cachers are prolific hiders with 100's (hundreds and hundreds) of caches placed.

Yes, I can filter them out via GSAK, but that doesn't hide the caches from the Groundspeak maps when I do a quick search like an ignored cache is hidden on the maps. Yes, I can try to ignore the caches one at a time, but I find myself ignoring dozens of caches a week (plus the hundreds and hundreds they placed before I hit my "can't-stand-their-style limit.

  3. Okay, I'll bite. Where is this DNF list that y'all are talking about?

from your profile where it shows the logs click on "geocaches"

    Untitledlist.jpg

Those links are nothing more than lists of your log types.

If you want to see the caches you logged a DNF on, then click on that list.

If you want to see the caches you found, then click on the "found it" list. Seems easy.

  4. I linked to the procedure for having the logs restored. I did that in an effort to be helpful. I hope that the OP takes advantage of the appeal process described in the Knowledge Book.

I am confused. I looked over the page you posted the link for and nowhere in it do I see anything about an appeal process. What am I missing?

9: A reviewer or site administrator must intervene on your behalf if you absolutely have to restore a log which has been deleted in error.

  5. An explanation is given in this thread link.

    Fairly easy. ;)

I don't want to change the setting (datum) on my GPSr...I just need to know how to translate the given coordinates to the standard used for geocaching on this site so I can enter the coordinates into my GPSr

  6. Why do people have to be so nosey.

Maybe nosey isn't the right word, maybe it is.

Last night some nosey neighbors called the police on me AFTER I had talked to them and explained why I was there, on public property, looking for a cache. It wouldn't bother me if the public property was next to theirs but it was on a road that led to their property. Their property (according to the maps) is about 300 feet away.

Today they signed up for an account to log 2 finds on the cache and post a note that misquoted me.

The CO disabled the cache. The CO is new and this is a pretty big deterrent for someone new to the hobby.

Why do people feel the need to be so nosy and controlling?

Maybe nosey, maybe concerned. What time of night was it? 300 feet from their property isn't all that far away.

9:30 is late where I am from.

Strangers out and about near my property (if I was a non-cacher) would absolutely warrant a call to the police.

Look at if from their non-caching view, not from your cachecentric view.

  7. I created a route and clicked create PQ. Tweaked the PQ a bit and then clicked submit. Seems to have worked. When I click preview the browser just sits there. If I go back to the PQ list and click the lighting bolt with the arrow the browser just sits there "Loading ...". If I click on the map after a delay it show the initial page (Green Lake) and then shows "Requesting Geocaches ..." in the middle. The arrows just keep spinning.

I made a PQ today, and tried to preview it, and it wouldn't load.

Although I made the PQ at 9am or so this morning, the list states is was "Last Generated1/31/2010 12:00:00 AM"???

I never got the PQ, either...

  8. Lil Devil.. Maybe I should install Greasemonkey and actually look at the stuff you've done. That way I could give you a heads up that I'm going to make something obsolete, until then I'll just keep work on the stuff that's been on my list for a while now :)

    -Raine

So...the OP's original question? Is this something that can be done?

  9. As the subject says, how long do you all typically hunt for a cache before you give up?

I need to check my watch, but I bet I give up after 15 minutes or so.

    You all take it easy.

    Steve.

3-5 minutes, then the NHF (not having fun) rule is called.

I want to find caches, not waste time looking for "evil" caches for missing caches.

#1925. I came back to this after not finding it several months ago. I found the little Zip Lock with log and a [cacher] disc in it. I don't think that's where you hid it--did someone pilfer the container? I replaced where found, but suspect it's more visible than the owner intended. I didn't need to follow the hint because of where I found it. Hope you can check it really soon! Thanks, SL.

Beautiful Autumn day with car show to see too. Yeah, pretty terrible spot.

    :D 9/27/2009 by ZZZZ

Hmmm....found plastic bag and log but no cache container....needs a bit of maintenance.

Cacher XXXX and ZZZZ post "only found plastic bag" finds, and cacher YYYY between them posts full find. All FAIL!

  11. Can't find it, just replace it...oh yeah, the owner already replaced it 30 feet away...now there is two caches there :(

    :) June 18 by XXXXXX (8472 found)

Late log. Found the reminents with XXXX. Accidently saw the B in the waypoint as an 8 (darn eyeballs anyway!), and sent a similar log to Florida! Found nothing but the twisted wire loop still hanging at ground zero and we replaced it, with fresh log and container. We are declaring a find, unless the owner objects. Thanks for the hunt, XXXXXXX

  12. Can't find it? Just toss a replacement. At least they admit they cheat.

 August 8 by XXXXX (548 found)

took XXXX out on a nice day of caching found 40 caches 7 benchmarks wow what a day. well we found the spot were the cache was and just the hanging devices was there but when went to find the bench mark we also found somthing that with a little modification was able to make a replacement cache (i dont like to admit defeat) that should work for a little while. tftc

  13. New to geocaching here and so far we've found 5 caches. Down the road I'd like to create my own cache but will find a few more to make sure I under this new hobby.

The one big question I have is about getting permission for the cache. Is this something that is like driving 55...you're suppose to do it but few do? Or is this something that in the geocaching world is a must? One of the caches I've found was in a park where I've dealt w/ the property manager previously and I find it very doubtful that they would have allowed the cache after the trouble they gave me in trying to organize an event there. That cache is what started my suspicion.

I'm not against getting permission and most certainly will for my caches - but was just curious as to how strictly geocachers stuck to this rule.

    Thanks

It's been my experience that very few cache owners ask permission.

It's the Big Lie that cachers commit when they check the box stating they have "read and understand the guidelines for listing a cache" which state:

By submitting a cache listing, you assure us that you have adequate permission to hide your cache in the selected location.

The very very small percentage of cachers to take the time to read and post to the forums may take time to gain permission, but the vast majority of cache owners just click the box and hit the submit button, permission be damned.

  14. Cache owner placed a 3-stage multi with bad coordinates. Most are claiming finds for only getting to stage two :D

    :D April 27 by cacher D (407 found)

Like all the rest I found stages 1 and 2 without trouble!

    :P April 12 by cacher C (147 found)

Great hide in our neighborhood park. Thanks! We found 2 out of 3.

The coordinates for #1 placed us in the middle of the lawn, but the clue helped us find it.

Cache #2 is on private property, but we took a chance and found it.

Cache #3 was not found. We looked long and hard with no luck. The tree covering made our GPS go a little crazy. So, #3 has yet to be found!

    :P April 2 by cacher B (1916 found)

Ok, well being that credit is given for finding the second stage...Im callin it a find.

Found the first stage in an out of the way pocket park. Not sure about it, my cords too put me in the middle of the grass, but the hint gave me direction. The second stage I found easy, but really not sure if I should have been there. I do think this too is private property...sorry but I do. The third stage was a no go for me. I used the hint to every thing in the area and 80 feet out.

So if you wish this to be edited to a DNF I will do so, but going to call it good.

    :) March 28 by cacher A (1995 found)

Going to make a first to find on second stage As owner said to sign log. third stage is up for grabs, I guess. I get no replys from email to him cacher A.

[DNF] March 20 by cacher A (1995 found)

first stage was soso second stage was easy third stage I was still looking when I finely gave up cacher A.
