  1. Yep, finally got it! Holy samolie that took a long time. Exchanged into about $63. I made the mistake of looking at what a Garmin Legend costs now. Ugghh...it's come down $100 since March! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  2. Well, if you're not going, then I'm not going!! What?!?! No Christmas Cache Mobile? Well, that's it. I'm really not going now. <stomping feet and slamming door> Well, if Pepper makes briskitt, I might - just might- reconsider. <slam!> "You are cleared for geocaching."

I won't bother. EEEK! Mariner, I wasn't trying to steal your idea! I was agreeing with it! I love chocolate!!(see my profile) I was just trying to portray that with me, it wouldn't have a chance. I'd have it all eaten by the border. You should know I wouldn't do anything to undercut you. "You are cleared for geocaching."
  4. Awesome shirt designs. I'd really like to see the polo shirt with the logo stitched in. Geocaching.com under it in small print would be ok too. I agree about a tan colour. Something other than white. (White does terrible things to people with really fair skin tone) The t-shirts are great. I'm not partial to the "You are the search engine" A bit too geeky for me. (No offence!) I'd like to see something simple and a bit more dressy - like the polos. PLEASE make them available in Canada too! "You are cleared for geocaching."

  6. Thank you Olar and White_Owl for the helpful information! I never really looked at the fine print on the bottom of the cache pages before. Learn somethin' new every day! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  7. Anyone know how I would get a hold of a person who approves (or not) caches on Vancouver Island? "You are cleared for geocaching."
  8. I'm looking for an experienced Welsh cacher, who would be interested in setting up an international cache with me here in Canada. There will be one multi-stage cache in Wales, and one multi-stage in Victoria BC. The Welsh cacher must find the first part of his/her cache which will contain the latitude of the Welsh stage 2, and the longitude of the Canadian stage 2. Then each person must get on the geocaching site and look for the person in the other country to exchange coordinates. Please take a look at the Canada/USA (Peace Arch) one that we have. This will explain it a bit better. If you are interested, please e-mail me. We will exchange items to put in each others cache. IE I'll send you Canadian items for yours, and you send me Welsh items for mine. Here's the link to my half of the Peace Arch cache. Peace Arch "You are cleared for geocaching."
  9. Here's another happy camper as far as GPSCentral is concerned. I've done all my geocaching purchases through them and have found them to have great prices, terrific fast shipping and updates on your order. Also, because so many cachers purchase from them, if you ever did have a problem, I'm sure they will bend over backwards to put it right. Don'twant to lose all those happy customers! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  10. Well, with any luck,(ie Jan 3rd) I'll be able to make this one! It's funny that hubby and I were driving right through the area about 2 weeks ago on our Pacific Coast highway tour. Hoping to find a caching buddy or two willing to share my car. I'm up for smuggling chocolate too. The big 'ol chocolate smear all around my lips might give me away at the border though. Ahh, but I've got connections. Oh, wait, that's for coming back into Canada.... "You are cleared for geocaching."
  11. Welcome! If you are ever over to Victoria, please give me a shout and I'd be happy to team up with you here! We can talk shop. "You are cleared for geocaching."
  12. If each concern and prayer was a light, the path will be brightly lit and will lead her home safely. DiverMan, you have a very large geo-family who is here for you. Stay strong. "You are cleared for geocaching."

I've got a Garmin Legend. When I bought it I didn't know a thing about GPSrs (yeah, like I know so much more now) but I looked at what I could afford, and what was going to give me the most bang for my buck. Also, it had a $50 US rebate. --which for those following along in my forum about it, I FINALLY GOT! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  14. Dagg, are you being a dirty old man? "You are cleared for geocaching." [This message was edited by GroundClutter on September 24, 2003 at 07:27 PM.]
  15. Here is the same post that I left on the Canadian forum. I reproduce it here to close this discussion too... Once again, thanks for your support everyone. It's interesting that the Canadian cachers supported it, and the US cachers didn't. And for petes sake, lets not turn that into a whole new discussion. I'm not discouraged. I'm disappointed. But as I said before. No worries. If they don't want it, they won't get it. I guess it's not that great of a place anyway, if there is not a cache there yet, in such a "Cache dense area" Seriously folks. I tried. I took it to an open forum for people to express their opinions and was denied still. It's done. "You are cleared for geocaching."

  17. Hey, I'm off work at 3. I can make some snackies to take along if anyone would like. Suggestions?? "You are cleared for geocaching."
  18. Ok, I guess that's the final word on that. I have to say I am very disappointed though, as are others it seems, at the arbitrary application of virtual guidelines. On my trip, I did 26 caches, of which 10 were virtuals (all were signs except Aunt Helen- which didn't require anything!) : Shifting Sands - a sign of a quote Are you a keen observer - a sign in a park Journey's End - a sign on the highway Firmly Anchored - a piece of metal Visit Aunt Helen - a view (coast is full of them)in a large park Historic Fish Wrapper - a stone with a name and no other info as to why. Collision Course - a sign Watching for Wizardry - a sign in a park Waterfall - sign Real Heros - memorial in a park Not to take anything away from those ones, but I really fail to see the difference. If memory serves, there were ample places for regular caches at those sites, and nothing too unique about any of them. I guess I'll just be left shaking my head. I didn't imply that my plaque was unique. But the information on it is. At least as unique, if not more so than the 10 caches listed. I tried, I appealed, I was denied. Whatever. Thanks everyone, for your opinions, as unnoticed as they went. "You are cleared for geocaching."
  19. Thanks for your opinions. I did search for close-by caches before submitting this one. I didn't find anything in the immediate area. Yes, there is one .9 miles away. You can see how far away my cache is by looking at the other cache page. You'll see Vista House far in the distance. There was another one .9 miles away that had not been visited in over a year, and has since disappeared. Won't happen with a virtual. I'm surprised that no one has placed a cache here by now. I didn't feel a regular cache was appropriate or even allowed in a site like this. All I wanted to do was have a nice cache memory from our trip, and have people learn a bit of history from the plaque. No worries. If they don't want it, then they don't want it. Seems like an awfully stiff rule to me though. "You are cleared for geocaching."
  20. I have started this thread in the Canadian forums. I'm trying to get a virtual in Oregon approved. It was denied as it is a vacation cache. My argument is that it is a virtual, at a historical site, and needs no maintenance. Please have a look at the thread, and offer your opinion. I've informed the cache approver of it and that I am trying to garner support. Thanks! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  21. quote:Originally posted by res2100: What part of Canada is it in anyways? I think a good mix of regular and virtual caches and others is necessary to keep it interesting. http://ca.geocities.com/geocachingcanada http://ca.geocities.com/rsab2100/pond.html Thanks! It's actually in Oregon, outside of Troutdale (which is east of Portland) I grabbed my first benchmark in the same spot! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  22. OH MY GOD somebody please put the lid on the sandbox before someone looses (just for you RobertM! ) an eye!!! "You are cleared for geocaching."
  23. Sorry.. Didn't realize you can't see the page. Here is the text that I submitted... I wanted to make a cache in honour of our terrific driving trip down the Pacific Coast Highway and through Oregon. We stopped at this location on our last day. This was the starting point of our "waterfall day". We took in the terrific view here before continuing on along the Old Scenic Highway to Multnomah Falls - the 5th largest falls in the US. {You will be looking for a large plaque on Vista House.} To log this cache, please e-mail the following information; 1) Who was he? 2) What did he replace? 3) With what did he replace it? DO NOT post your answers in your log. Such logs will be deleted. Please continue along the Scenic Highway and take in the number of gorgeous waterfall areas. Thank you Oregon, for some terrific memories!! (the stuff in the brackets was added after I read the reply about not being specific enough) And here is the reply... I'm sorry I cannot approve this cache. There is not enough information on the cache page to determine what the subject of this cache is. It is also a vacation cache. Even though it is a virtual the vacation rules still apply. Please feel free to email me at teammisguided@yahoo.com if you have any questions. TMJ--Admin. Here is the appeal I sent to TMJ: Re Waterfall Trail. I have done an edit to included that the cacher is looking for a large plaque on Vista House.(That's the large building in the picture submitted on the cache page) The coordinates listed take the cacher right to the plaque. I realize that this is a vacation cache, but this is a permanent building and is part of the State Park system (therefore no regular cache can be placed). There is no maintenance required, so no need to be at the site. If I need to occasionally verify the plaque is still on the side of the building, I can simply call the visitor centre that is part of the Vista House. There are no other caches in the immediate area, and I feel that this virtual is important to allow people to learn about the important history behind the construction of the scenic highway. Please reconsider allowing this cache. I have not had a reply to that yet. What do you all think? "You are cleared for geocaching."
  24. I would like to 'place' this virtual. I have been denied because it is a vacation cache, and not enough information was given. I have done an edit to include that you will be looking for a large plaque on the side of the building. I have also stated that I realize it is a vacation cache, but as a virtual, no maintenance is needed. The plaque is on a heritage building, so it's not going anywhere. If I need to verify that the plaque is indeed still there, I can call the visitor centre. There are no other caches in the immediate area. I feel this one is important because the cacher will learn about the history of the area, and will be at the beginning of the Old Scenic Highway, which will take them along some of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen. May I please have your support for this cache? Waterfall Trail "You are cleared for geocaching."

Gotta agree, I wouldn't mind finding one either. Lock&Lock's are the coolest containers! Hi! Going great! I'll send you a private message. (Just didn't want anyone thinking I was ignoring you!)
