  1. I have a question - this proposal is a bit ambiguous in its wording; are you meaning that the IndiGO coin would represent the ENTIRETY of the Indiana Caching community, or is this a specific coin only for the IndiGO group?
  2. *whew* OK, thanks Moose Mob and Keystone. You guys rock! As I said, I don't think he did it to avoid the review process for that aspect; it's just that he just recieved a request to collect them and apparently thought "Hey, lots of people collecting is way better than one person; our local cachers are pretty nice people, I bet they'd do it if I asked..." and used the cache page as a way to get the word out. I'll let him know that next time he has to include it in the original cache listing when he submits it. *whew* again.
  3. I know it's not your listing, but a general reminder to anyone reading... Significantly changing the cache page after publication can cause immediate archiving. I didn't intend to get it delisted! I hadn't realized it would constitute a significant change. What would be acceptable to keep it from getting archived? I really don't want to kill the event; there's several people looking forward to it; the only thing that concerned me was the commercial aspect, since i know it's been rather a touchy subject in the past and I didn't want him / the event getting into trouble over it. If it can be fixed, I'd like to let him know that it has to be changed, and how to change it. thanks!
  4. Temp caches are not allowed Edit to add: I just saw this added to the thread Could it be that the person who set the cache up left this out so that the approver would not see it. Box Tops for Education is a specific program, run by General Mills. The logo on the listing page is the logo you need to look for; they don't collect the whole top; just their "Box Top Coupon". The "temporary cache" is going to work just like any other "temporary-just-for-the-event" cache; the coordinates will be distributed at the event, and the cache will be closed down after the event is over. I've seen those at several events, and it's never been a problem. I think he added it to the cache page just recently not to avoid the approver but because the issue just came up, is all.
  5. No, the Box Tops thing was just added. The cache was listed last month, without the Box tops thing.
  6. OK, that makes sense. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to ask: is this particular one OK? Thanks!
  7. I know in the rules it says we can't create commercial or promotional caches. Would having a contest at an event to collect, say, Campbell's Soup Labels , with a prize of some sort to go to the person / team that brings the most, be OK? I don't want an event I've noticed to get into trouble because of that, if it's not allowed.
  8. As a fellow cacher and as a cache owner, let me tell you I love it when people post paragraph (or sometimes novella) length logs as opposed to the shorties. Those long, long logs are wonderful for letting me know what to expect when I go caching, as well as what's going on around my caches. Far from being steamed, I'm VERY happy to see the longer logs. So go for it - post the paragraphs!
  9. There's an event this weekend, the Turkey Trot Too, near your bug. I've posted a request to the event cache that if someone would please rescue your bug from the cache it's in, and take it to the event, we'll take it back south and put it near I-80 / I-90. Hopefully someone will do so. I just don't know if I'll be able to get to the actual cache your bug is in, unfortunately. We'll do what we can, though.
  10. I've logged this one: (1markymark1's Big Green Expedition Jeep) and Pipanella has her Slug Bug Silver tricked out with a special plate:
  11. I actually took it more as a statement of fact: We overlook (don't notice) the boundaries we do not intend to pass. IOW: If I'm not intending on breaking the rules by going into a Forbidden Zone, I may not be as likely to notice, or pay attention to, the signs saying that I am, in fact, going into a Forbidden Zone. Which makes no sense to me, because if I'm wanting to avoid the FZs, I'm sure as heck going to be on the alert for signs designating said FZs. Either that or it was a slightly snotty comment along the lines of "we ignore the boundaries we SAY we don't intend to cross" - IOW, justifying our transgression with "I didn't realize I was <on Private Property / In the Forbidden Zone / where I wasn't supposed to be>." That's my interpretation of it, anyway. edit: Hmf. Mule Ears' response wasn't there when I started to type my post. Therefore, since it's a permanent part of the Ranger's sig, please disregard everything I said above and I'm going with mtn_man's answer.
  12. The short answer is yes. We'll be providing a feature to bulk add a bunch of waypoints to a list that is similar to what you described Any updates on this feature? And, would it be possible to have a larger-than-100-caches "Ignore" list, perchance? There's an entire series I'd like to be able to ignore - and it's currently over 400 caches, with no signs of stopping. Thanks very much for these lists, in any case! These are fantabulous!
  13. I've started a series of monthly meet-n-greets, and the cache page is identical except for the month for each of them. Is there any way I can do a new cache listing and tell it to COPY a pre-existing one so I don't have to type in the information each time? I've saved the "Short Description" and "Long Description" and Coordinates information into a text file, but it's still kind of a pain to have to copy-n-paste all that each time. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  14. At the last event cache I went to there was a guy with a binder with a whole bunch of geocoins in them. He used the coin-display pages you can get at any coin shop for cheap, along with the cardboard-edged coin-sleeves. Most coins can be either purchased or in many cases you can trade with their owner. Most of the ones I've seen are, in fact, sig items of a very special sort. Team CoyChev, for example, has no tracking numbers on theirs: they're strictly a sig item, and they even have a list of coins they're looking for. However, I do agree with JohnnyVegas: if you see one in a cache, and it has a tracking number on it, move it along. Keeping it is rude. But you knew that. And don't forget, some people don't track theirs through GC.com, for a number of reasons. These may be tracked through places such as geocoins.ca, or travelertags.com. (They'll usually say so, somewhere on the coin, though).
  15. Cool, a twice-resurrected Zombie Thread for Halloween! (And a fun one, too!) Hmmm... Claws a-Slashin' ? Does that work?
  16. I know that with our Magellan, if you download something from the computer first with that port, the Maggie won't read the port as "ready to receive". IIRC, you have to log out and back in, or re-enable / reset the port. I believe we just shrug and reboot the computer; that almost always works. It's a huge PITA; it won't do both upload and download; you have to reset the port between transfers to get it to do the opposite of whatever it was you just did. If anyone's got a work-around for that, instead of having to reboot the computer each time, I sure would like to know about it...
  17. I've found a 6 foot leather leash works extremely well. The 6' leash is long enough for Kai to wander around a bit, but short enough that he doesn't get himself tangled too badly around the underbrush. And the leather is dang near indestructable. I'm assuming this is just to the pet owners who think that disciplining a dog is for the birds and likes to have their Itty-Witty-Wootsy-Bootsy-Puppy-Dog with them everywhere and not to those of us who've trained our Caching Canine to behave in crowds, not to bark, and definitely not to table- or counter-surf? Kai goes with us to Cache Events (unless they're at a restaurant) and we've had nothing but compliments about how well-behaved he was. Well, except for the one woman whose dog insisted on racing right up and jamming its nose in Kai's face (and in his dangly bits) every fricking time it was anywhere close. She wasn't real happy when Kai took to growling at this dog to back off after about 3 rounds of RAMMING SPEED! (Which she thought was FUNNY, by the way) - so yeah, she could've left good old RS home, wouldn't'a broken MY heart.
  18. I know on a Magellan you can also set up a "route", using two or more waypoints, and it'll tell you how long the route is. Takes about a minute to do, tops.
  19. Thanks, Elias, for the prompt reply! I wondered if it was related to the database issues when I saw that posted. Question answered; thread closed.
  20. Hm, yeah, I got the same message. But MY zipcode is in there too. Update: I also seem to have gotten a re-send of last week's email. Just showed up.
  21. I just got this week's "new Cache Listing" and it's really weird. First thing I noticed is that there were no "distance from home coordinates" like there usually is, so I clicked on a few. They're ALL over 150 miles away; most are closer to 200 or more miles away from my home coordinates. What's going on? Will I get my REAL "new cache listing"? Tune in next week, for the exciting conclusion...no, wait, that's the wrong thing. But anyway, I would like to know what's going on. Thanks!
  22. Please have her cloned, mass-produced, and sold at all department stores. I suppose this is a bad place to pop in and say that I introduced my husband to Geocaching, that he loves it really a whole lot too, and that he's decided he's a super lucky guy because on the way to dinner to celebrate our 13th anniversary, I insisted on stopping to cache because I wanted to retrieve a WJTB? Yeah. Thought so. Sorry about that. Oh, and he and the dog have me trained: toilet seat goes UP when I'm done using it. I automatically reach for it and put it down before use. I've sat on (but not whizzed on) the toilet lid a couple times doing that. I'm so lucky - he got me my own GPS and hiking stick for my birthday...
  23. Well, boogers. THAT looks like a seriously cool item; one I'd like to see around here somewhere...but you're nowhere near me. Nuts. Ah well - any chance you could post a pic of it so we can see it?
  24. We geocache *only* with our dog. He's 1/3 of our Geocaching team, and the reason for our name, frankly. Sure, I'd be willing to "chat" via email - just email me through my profile. I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for that you can't get off the forums, but I'll help where I can. -Kim, for "Paws"itraction
