  1. I am pretty new to geocaching and am from the northwest Atlanta area. My brother turned me on to geocaching while in NJ for Thanksgiving in '06 and I have joined him and his kids several times while visiting. Just logged my first finds while on a trip down to Miami and am looking forward to heading out here in GA soon. Nice to see a slew of friendly Geo-gians on here, hope to see you out on the trails when the weather improves!
  2. Growing up in Western Massachusetts, I was always getting into poison ivy but have never had a reaction. I do however avoid it at all costs just to be safe! I remember as a child, my mother picking a plant called "Sweet Fern" which seemed to always grow next to thick packs of poison ivy (does poison ivy travel in packs? ). She claimed it was a natural remedy for the rash and used to boil it, cool it, and put it on her outbreaks. The stuff smelled actually smelled great. I did a quick google search and found This page on Sweet Fern. Apparently used by Native Americans to treat poison ivy. Just another interesting natural remedy to consider, if thats your thing!
  3. Picked up two... my first Geocoin! One for me... and one to set free. Now back to waiting patiently for my new GPSr to arrive.
  4. Very nice!! I really like this coin Tsun and I expect it will be my first one to buy as a new geocacher! Thanks for the effort and personal touch you put into this.
  5. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. As a "just starting out" cacher (haven't even started yet!), I have found everyone's "if" comments to be most helpful as I begin the steps down the road to a fun addiction! After reading what you had to say, I have taken the following steps to hopefully start well right off the bat: My Garmin 60CSX is arriving this week - many of you seem to have wished you had a better unit when you started. I have dug out the old Axim X5 and will be purchasing and familiarizing myself with the applicable software for going paperless - another common "if I started over" topic. Will be signing up for the premium membership ASAP. I have begun assembling a small pack to hold my digital camera and other essentials (bug spray, flashlight, plastic bags for CITO, etc.) I wouldn't have thought of bringing the camera right away and I sure I would have missed out on some interesting photo opportunities. Weather (and UPS) permitting, I hope to find #1 this weekend sometime. See you on (and off) the trails!
