  1. I was at a historic, yet locked up site and the people that work in the building across the parking lot wanted to know what I was doing. They were a tad hostile, as I was looking in bushes for a cammo cache. I told them I'd tripped there a few days ago and lost an earring (my grandmother's diamond) and was trying to find it. Could they let me know if it turned up? I had the sense that the whole geocaching thing would not have gone over very well.
  2. I enjoyed a cache I found today. There was no cache IN the cemetery, but I was given a set of coordinates, and at that place was a certain tombstone. I had to put coordinates in my GPS based on the death date of the male, and the birth date of the female. It was like "subtract 1644 from the date of death of Abigail Hobarth and add the result on to the West coordinates". It was fun, and I found myself wandering around wondering about the people, (It was a really old cemetery). No cache, a history lesson was provided, (a man was hung there) and I was sent on my merry way to the real cache. Very respectful I think.
  3. I'm a teacher and I use mine in my physics and math class. I also plan to use it as a tax deduction since I am. Since you are homeschooling, I imagine you could too. Do you also get to use the $250 teacher deduction? All of this could go towards the Garmin. Imagine what you could do with it. They could learn about longitude and latitude. I used it in Geometry to figure out the grade of a hill, in all of my math classes to investigate coordinates, in trig to figure distance between two cities, in physics to study satellites. The list goes on and on and of course you could spin off of these and get as complicated as you want. There, is that justification or WHAT?!?!?! Oh, I have the Garmin Venture, purchased at Amazon for about $180.
  4. Have you tried the Garmin website? It's the only place I could locate a simple bike mount. I think I paid $16 total. Also, a data cable...I have a Garmin Venture and it just uses the usb to mini usb cable that comes with most digital cameras. A pretty generic cable that's easy to locate in stores, or if you have a digital cam, you should already own one.
