  1. The sales tax varies from county to county. Here in Santa Clara County it is 9.25%. The 20% discount isn't available on items ending in "9" or for any GPS units. Thanks, though.
  2. lumens, I think you are looking at the COLORADO 400t and not the OREGON 400t. And the Colorado does not have the $50 rebate from Garmin. With the sale price at REI... the Oregon is only a little bit more money and you get a lot more GPS. But if don't have the money for either one.... it's a moot point. I don't have the bucks either, but it's so hard to pass this deal up. It ends up costing $370 after tax with the rebate. ( Only 6% tax where I live. ) Thanks ! Youre right. Thanks! That's a heck of a good deal.
  3. I was just looking at the 400t on Amazon. They have it for $355.92, no tax and free shipping. If I bought it at my local REI with our nifty new 9.25% sales tax it would be $386.99 after rebate (which I would probably have to wait 6-8 weeks for). So Amazon with no rebate wait is still $31.07 less than REI. Not sure about the lifetime guarantee though. If Amazon doesn't offer that it might be worth the $30 extra. In any case I'm too poor to buy it at either place.
  4. After reading this thread last week I decided to go paperless. I bought a like new Palm M500 with accessories from eBay for about $46 shipped. It arrived Saturday. I installed CacheMate and used it Saturday and Sunday. Works great. I would have preferred to buy a new GPS that includes paperless geocaching, but for a budget solution I'm very happy.
  5. I have two Malkoff M60 modules. If you have a SureFire that uses a P60 lamp assembly, I don't think you can find a better dropin than the Malkoff. My dad has two of the Malkoff dropin's for Mag. They are also very nice and easy to install. I've modded a couple of 3D Mags with Seoul P4 LEDs. It was cheaper and more fun, but the Malkoff is much easier - and probably more reliable. I put up a couple of shots from last night's geocaching. I can't remember which light I was using for these shots. Either the EagleTac T10C2 or the SureFire w/Malkoff. Don
  6. I haven't done much Geocaching after dark, but I always carry at least two lights on my at all times, a NiteCore EX10 and a Fenix E01. The NiteCore EX10, is pretty much all the light I need. It can be ramped anywhere between 5 lumens and 130 lumens so I can use it for everything from reading logs, to peeking into dark places, to trail walking. The E01 will give me 21 hours of useable light as a backup. I'm planning on doing some Geocaching this evening with a buddy in a local county park. Since we may be out after dark AND since I'm a seriously deranged flashaholic, I will be bringing: SureFire C2-HA with Malkoff M60 LED. Malkoff MD2 Flashlight with Malkoff M60 LED (for my buddy to carry). EagleTac T10C2 NiteCore EX10 Fenix E01 3-4 keychain LED lights for swag. I could definitely used a good headlamp, but as yet I don't have one. Don
  7. Exactly! It's about appropriateness. It may or may not be within my free speech limits to hand out a geocaching pamphlet at a church service, but I think it would be extremely disrespectful and inappropriate and I would never do it.
  8. Leave whatever pamphlets you feel the need to??? So the Christians start leaving pamphlets and then some Muslim geocacher leaves a pamphlet and then the atheist geocacher decides to get in on the act and then the pro-choice folks will feel the need to leave a pamphlet and then the anti-abortion people will respond and so on and so on... Thank you for noticing that. I added those links as a tongue in cheek response to Kit Fox's propaganda-laden post which I was replying to. I just forgot to use the official tongue in cheek icon . I'll be removing them soon.
  9. So a religious pamphlet should be tolerated and not an ACLU pamplet or an environmentalist pamphlet? I would be just as offended/annoyed/whatever to find items whose sole purpose is to promote Islam, Atheism, Christianity, Communism, The ACLU, Immigration Reform, The Democratic Party, The Republican Party or anything else unrelated to Geocaching. If and when I find something like that in a cache I will either dispose of it (if such content is not allowed by the rules) or trade for it and dispose of it (if it is allowed by the rules). I didn't become interested in Geocaching so that I could learn more about The Prophet or Christ or Hillary Clinton.
