  1. Allright gang, here are the details: We are meeting at the area that they call “THE OVAL” The coords at the top of the page are where we will meet. The main entrance for the park is on Colerain Ave at N39 10.798 W84 33.978. When you come in that entrance, take your first left and you will run right into the place. We will start our work with the Park Board at 9:00 A.M. I would like to have our group start getting together around 8:30 A.M. so I can pass out the CITO shirts and let everyone log their visit on a cache log sheet. We will work til around 12:30 and then meet back at the OVAL for lunch provided by the Park Board. The activities that the Park is going to have us do involve more than just picking up garbage. They also will be having us pruning some trees and bushes, touching up and re-painting of equipment and various other tasks. They have asked that if you have the following items to please bring them along: Gloves Rakes Loppers Shears Watter bottle for yourself. We are now up to 69 helpers. See you all soon. Ladybuggers!
  2. I know what you are talking about cwoper. I was playing volleyball, when I went up to block a spike from the other side and came down on the foot of another player. I rolled my ankle and went down immediately. That was 8 days ago. I have been on crutches ever since. I just today saw my doctor for my followup visit and the doctor was not pleased with my progress. I had to go today and get an MRI also. It seems I may have torn some ligiments or something. I won't know for another day or two. I am dieing to get out and get caching again. I know I have at least another week or two before that will happen though. Until then I scour the cache pages and spend alot of time here at the forums.
  3. I see no problem with your cache. You clearly state that it is a memorial to your grandmother. The only thing I might change would be to add your quote at the top of this thread to the cache page to explain why you placed it. I like the explaination, but that it clearly up to you. quote: It was her death that caused me to find recreational hobbies, and found geocaching as a result.
  4. First, let me say that I haven't read the other thread that this discussion originated from. Since this thread is to deicide whether or not the cache be approved, I see no need in getting into whether someone does or doesn't like handicapped children. We have done the Sith 1 series of caches here in Cincinnati and they were alot of fun to do. They took us to different parks in different cities and states. All were within 30 miles of each other. As for the containers, I do remember that they were big enough for items to be left in. I even remember that a few of them had coins and a peice or two of chidrens jewelry. I am sure that if cache items is a stumbling point, it can be resolved extremely easily. If the Sith 3: series is to be done in the same venue as the Sith 2. I would welcome it and wouldn't see any reason not to approve it as seperate caches.
  5. A few new details. We now have an official event cache for the Clean Up Day at Mt. Airy Forest. You can find it here At the meeting that we had we also decided that we wanted to wear the CITO (Cache in Trash out) T-shirts that are available from Geocaching.com while we clean up. They are now available and are remarkably priced at $3.00 for regular sizes, $4.00 for 2XL and $5.00 for 3XL. You can check them out here. We can save alot of money on shipping by combining our orders into one large order. I know there may be some cachers that might not be able to afford the shirts. The have been a couple teams that have offered to help pay for shirts that others might not be able to afford. So, if you would like to come and can't afford shirts, please let me know and I will get them for you. Names will be kept confidential. As I stated on the cache page, please let me know if you are planning on attending by either posting a note on the cache page, this forum or emailing me at jsfocke@cinci.rr.com Let me know how many people you will have and what size shirt you want. Thanks to everyone who is willing to help out. Jamey Ladybuggers!
  6. OK! I got a response back from the Cincinnati Park Board and they would love to have our group help them. They, Cindi Nugent, said that they could use a group our size to help clean up Mt. Airy Forest. There is a Senior Olympic event there on the scheduled clean up day for all the other parks, so they will be cleaning that park on MAY 17, 2003. from 9:00 - 1:00. I emailed all the cachers that made the meeting where we decided to help the parks. I told them of the change in dates and all the responses I got back were positive. So, I will firm up the arrangements and get an event cache started for this day. More details to come. Ladybuggers!
  7. Our dog (Shelly) loves to cache. I don't think there is anything that she loves more than to get out on a trail. When we get to secluded areas and I can take her off of her leash, she is in heaven. You can almost hear her laugh. The thing that is great about a small dog is that when you get to a bunch of poison ivy or thick briar patched you can fit them in your backpack.
  8. I would have to suggest that we need something that includes all of the areas around here. Since Cincinnati is so close to Ky and In. Maybe something like OKICachers or Tri-State Caching Club. Something like that anyway. Just my opinion. Ladybuggers!
  9. We just had a meeting for the sole purpose of discussing Earth Day. We don't have a geocaching group in Cincinnati yet, so a bunch of locals cachers joined us for a quick discussion. We decided to join with the Cincinnati Park Board to help clean up on their "Green Up Day" On May 3rd. Anyone wishing to help can email me for details.
  10. We just had a meeting of 24 local cachers here in Cincinnati. We decided to join the efforts of the Cincinnati Park Board on May 3rd to clean up some of the city parks. Keep checking this topic for more details. If you wish to help please email me soon. I will need some definite numbers to give to the park board when we finalize our plans. Thanks everyone. Ladybuggers!
  11. As of yet, there is no geocaching clubs here in Cincinnati. I can assure you that there is an interest in starting one. We have some terrific cachers around here and we enjoy the get togethers that we do have. We don't have anyone with the drive to get us going or the volunteers to lead us. Without too much effort, I think someone could get the ball rolling. Ladybuggers!
  12. We have no geocaching organization here in Cincinnati, so we arranged for a little get together to discuss this topic. We had a turn out of 24 local cachers. It was a terrific surprise to see that many people there. The Cincinnati Parks are cleaning up here on May 3rd. We all decided to join in with their program and wear the CITO shirts that we will get from Groundspeak. I'm sure that we will have an even bigger turn out that day.
  13. Of course, We would recommend that you visit our cache which is in the northern area of Cincinnati. Garden Buggs Ladybuggers!
  14. Here's a 5 difficulty here in Cincinnati. Mario's Tower
  15. They were here in Cincinnati too. They have never been here in my lifetime and I had never heard of them until today.
  16. Cacher 1: The cache page said that at these coordinates I would find an idiot with too much money and not much sense. Who could they be talking about? Cacher 2: Beats me. Both: DOH!
  17. The three of us make up Ladybuggers. Mr, Mrs and Shelly, our poodle. She always finds something when we go caching. It may not be the cache and it may not smell very good, but she has a great time on the trails.
  18. To all of the local cachers who have been concerned about the situation with Jim Buzz. Jim Buzz passed away on July 12, 2002. He had been diagnosed with brain cancer in May of 2002. Shortly after that is when he realized that he would not be able to geocache anymore. With that in mind, he placed the cache in his front yard, so that other cachers would come to see him and he could still be an active participant in caching in anyway possible. Unfortunately, only a few of us were able to talk with Jim after that. Jim was an avid four-wheeler. In fact, he was well known in the industry. His real name was Jim Dordaller. If you do a web search for his name you will find numerous sites that tell of his adventures. His last cache finds were in the Moab, Utah area in April of 2002. That is where Jim waited to go every year. His true love was the 4x4 world. Jim had an ongoing fight with kidney stones. In fact, that is what put him into the hospital on July 5, 2002. While in the hospital his condition deteriorated significantly and he passed away a week later. I talked to the executor of his estate and asked if they would permit his cache to go on in memory of Jim. They were very willing. I have asked geocaching to transfer the ownership of the cache to me so I can maintain it. I will edit the cache page with a small story in Jim’s honor. The cache can be found at: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=26885
  19. That's terrific! I'd like to be the first to welcome you guys to our fun hobby of geocaching. It's an addictive thing. Hope you have interested, or at least understanding, better halfs. Ladybuggers!
  20. We had a newspaper writer interview a number of local cachers here in Cincinnati in the past few weeks. Today his article came out and it was a pleasant surprise. You can check it out here: http://enquirer.com/editions/2003/01/17/tem_frilede17.htm [This message was edited by ladybuggers on January 17, 2003 at 05:38 AM.]
  21. We have two VW's in the family. Mrs. Ladybuggers drives a 1972 Purple beetle and I have a 1967 VW with a Street Buggy body I bought in 1980 that I still love to drive in warm weather.
  22. Sorry for the misquote of what BruceS said. I heard him to say that he doesn't trade items becasuse he does so many caches that he can't keep track of what he exchanges. Items, apparently doesn't include travelbugs. I was so excited to meet all the area cachers at the St. Louis picnic that I guess my attention was compromised. It seems like whenever I try to help someone by letting them know what others might do or how they might be able to help, I just put my foot in my mouth. I will stick to only thoughts of what I will do from now on. Again, sorry for any confusion.
  23. We met BruceS last weekend at the St. louis Geocaching Picnic. He informed us that he doesn't trade items at caches. So, I would say he isn't the man for the job. I would think you might get some help if you contacted St. Louis Geocaching Association
  24. Looks like a terrific idea. You can bet that we will make the trip to do this cache when it's up and running. We just finished the Mario's Tower cache here in Cincinnati. It involves finding 12 different stage locations in a county park. Each stage gives you a set of clues. You have to figure out which clues they are for and what the mean. Once you've found the 12 stages, you can download a map of the actual cache location. It is extremely difficult. This sounds like it could be just as much fun. Ladybugger
  25. Hey Scook, If you do grab it and bring it to Cincinnati, We will try to get hold of it and take it with us when we go to Illinois and Missouri in early October. Ladybuggers!
