  1. I can't remember exactly where I found it, but if you need a copy of the form for the $50 rebate I put one here: rebate The form says Meridian GPS which I understand to be the base model. I bought my Merigreen from Fry's Electronics for US$99. I ordered mapsend topo through amazon and I plan on mailing in the rebate just as soon as I receive it.

You can add all the memory you want. Both Garmin and Magellan are good units. I'll second the above and add that it is WAAS enabled and includes a PC cable. I couldn't find it on outpost the last time I looked, however. If you have a Fry's Electronics in your area, keep an eye on their sales. They run this one at US$99 now and then.
  3. quote:Originally posted by TEAM 360:The only thing my MeriPlat loses when the low batteries shut it down is the "Goto" information, if that is being used at that moment. The track, or breadcrumbs, are still there after you change batteries (I don't know about the other Meridian models, though). Yeah, according to the faq the problem is only with the Merigreen. To quote the faq... quote:Known Issue – Meridian Green and Loss of Waypoints and RoutesThere is a known issue that affects only the base 2MB Meridian (Green) model. If any waypoint, route, or track data is added or edited, this data will be lost if the Meridian does not have a “proper” power down (for example, having the batteries die). This means that if you add a waypoint, and then your batteries die before turning the unit off, then your waypoint will be lost. The fix is to turn your unit off and then back on after adding any waypoints or routes. This is due to the type of memory used in the 2MB model, and does not affect the Gold, Platinum, or Marine models.
  4. Something else to be aware of with the Merigreen is that if you let the batteries die, it will lose data that has been entered since the last time you turned it off. This includes waypoints, routes and in my experience some of the internal waypoints it uses for back tracking. The fix for this (according to the faq) is to turn it off after entering new data. I simply replace my batteries on the first low battery warning now.
  5. Can someone tell me... What is the maximum allowed length of comments when you log a find. I've searched the site and the forums and I couldn't find an answer. And yes, I get wordy sometimes. All I know is that apparently 900 words is too much I also know that storage costs money. That's one of the reasons I'm a premium member.
  6. Check my logs on the 3 caches I did today. Up for a movie? (Texas) King's Ransom (Oklahoma) DFWOCT (Oklahoma) Was this wrong?
  7. The one I used is referenced in this thread.
  8. That's true. Someone came walking by after we had just replaced a cache and were picking up garbage. Strangely enough, she said, "Looking for treasure?" and I said, "No, just picking up trash." To which she replied, "Oh! Thank you!"
  9. Thanks for the advice . I emailed the owner as suggested. I have one additional question that I've come up with from reading another thread that was never clearly answered. I've found 5 or 6 TBs while caching, but ususally can't help them meet their goals, so I just leave them (and boy, don't my kids just love when we do that). Should I be logging them out and back into the same cache so I get "credit"? It seems kind of silly, but I saw in another thread that some people feel you should. Opinions?
  10. I read the (limited) FAQ and searched the forums and I know I saw a thread about this before but I can't for the life of me find it. So, here is my question. I pick up a travel bug. I'm going to move him along on his goal. Later that same day, I take him with me caching to a number of caches that I don't leave him in because they won't help him meet his goal. (He wants to migrate in a specific direction.) Is it bad form to log him in and out of all those caches I visited just to give him the miles? After all, he was with me the whole time. I will cross-post this to the Travel Bug forum also. Thanks.

  12. While out caching today, I found a discarded marine battery near a cache that was about a mile hike from my car. Yes, I carried the dang thing out. Felt like it weighed 50 pounds by the time I got back to the trailhead. What I couldn't figure out was while the trail was in the area of a lake, it was nowhere near the water. Why was it a mile down a hiking trail and who would have carried it there? Anyway, while we only did 5 caches today, we got 2 full bags of garbage in additon to the battery. It's amazing how much trash is out there.
  13. For all of you who just bought a Magellan Meridian like I did because of the great deals at Fry's/Outpost, I thought I would share the case I found for it. I didn't really like the Magellan case, but I found this one at my local REI and I really like it. Its got a shoulder cord, belt hook and backpack strap and has room for spare batteries and an extra pocket that can be used for anything from a cell phone or FRS radio to a power cable. The Meridian fits nicely in the main pocket. LINK
