  1. Wow, the geocaching penny at http://www.smashingpennies.com/store/geoca.../geocaching.htm is a good deal for 100. You could then use a Dremel engraver and put your caching name on the back.
  2. What would be very cool is to have a coin made prior to the December mission that looked like their mission patch. Give the crew a set and sell the others. Congrats in any case!
  3. Where do I get my hands on a rivet gun? The item I used is called an eyelet tool. Got it at Micheals craft store. The tool I got was for 3/16" eyelets. Also got a small pack of 3/16" brass eyelets. Total cost was under 7 bucks.
  4. I posted this in another thread, but I would like to some of the more ideas to keep people from muggling your coins. I have it enclosed in the plastic sleeve the coin came in. I then added an eyelet in the corner to add a tag to it. I also engraved the edge of the coin with an engraver. The eyelet doesnt allow the coin to be removed from the sleeve. I'll add a mission statement of some sort on the tag along with ownership info and tracking instructions. What do you do?
  5. I am glad this topic has come up. I am about to add some text to my new geocoin that I want to release. I have it enclosed in the plastic sleeve the coin came in. I then added an eyelet in the corner to add a tag to it. I'll use some of the tips here for the text. I also engraved the edge of the coin with an engraver. The eyelet doesnt allow the coin to be removed from the sleeve. Hope all this helps to keep it from vanishing
  6. Love the GSA logo, concept, and coin! Would there be a map showing all the states that he has released in? Wondering if he has made it to NJ or PA? EDIT: Figured out to see where he has been, now, just wish I could figure a way to get notified when he makes a drop!
  7. The little red guy on my shoulder with the pitchfork says place it in a 5/5 cache
  8. Are these coins shipping yet? Have not received any notifications or updates.
  9. Copied this section from the article Halton police are asking those who play the geocache games to choose their containers carefully and not use capped or taped pipes, military ammunition cases or ordnance housings. They suggest containers have a label on them that identifies them as such and that they reference a geocache website for further identification. Sure means alot of trouble for ammo boxes if his statement holds true. Make sure your hiding them well
  10. This is copied from the rules for placing geocaches. Cache Maintenance The cache owner will assume all responsibility of their cache listings. The responsibility of your listing includes quality control of posts to the cache page. Delete any logs that appear to be bogus, counterfeit, off topic, or not within the stated requirements. As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time – normally a few weeks – in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing. It may be difficult to fulfill your maintenance obligations if you place a cache while traveling on vacation or otherwise outside of your normal caching area. These caches may not be published unless you are able to demonstrate an acceptable maintenance plan. It is not uncommon for caches to go missing, areas to be cleared, trails to be blocked or closed, objects used for multi-cache or puzzles to be moved or removed, etc. Your maintenance plan must allow for a quick response to reported problems. The territory in which a geocacher is able to maintain caches responsibly will vary from one person to the next. An active geocacher who regularly visits areas hundreds of miles apart can demonstrate their ability to maintain a cache 100 miles from home. A geocacher whose previous finds and hides are all within 25 miles of their home would likely not see their cache published if placed 250 miles away from their home. If you have special circumstances, please describe your maintenance plan on your cache page. For example, if you have made arrangements with a local geocacher to watch over your distant cache for you, that geocacher’s name should be mentioned on your cache page.
  11. Have a link? Cant find anything on the contest page
  12. Thats some nice craftmanship. Thanks for the how-to!
  13. Thanks to the FSM threads flying around, anyone selling this on eBay is going make out like a bandit! I know if I bought one and decided to sell it, that would be my choice. I wouldnt let a mob decide what they think is fair. If twenty-eight would have waited till he got his coins, his eBay sale would not have even been mentioned at all. The fact that he did do it early, still doesnt change any of the facts. He got a coin and some didnt. Because he chose to sell early is not the reason that some did not get coins. Since there were no limits, anything goes.
  14. I am using an m-51 Enginners bag, not bad at all. http://www.amazon.com/M-51-Engineers-Field...y/dp/B000B5S82G
  15. Thats correct, 2300 July 13th, would be 1100pm this evening the 13th.
  16. Thanks for the tips/insight gang
  17. Just starting collecting geocoins. I have a few that I went right ahead and activated, knowing I am not going to release them. I also have 2 more that will be released in the near future. I also have a couple that I did not activate. I figured I would orignally activate them all and it would give me a nice little list and icon of each one on my profile page. I then noticed that when people sell/trade, they always seem to be unactivated. In the event I did want to trade or sell off a collection in the future, how hard would it be to unload if they are activated? Thoughts?
  18. Missed the initial sale of these, ended up getting a blue one on eBay. dadgum nice coin!
  19. I really like this coin! I am going to make a mission key ring to go with it before I release it.
