  1. I was looking up nearby caches when I noticed my list was a lot shorter. It seems that it goes out to only 50 miles (80.5 km) where before it went out to 100 miles (161 km). Is this a recent change on the website's part? Just looking for information.
  2. One minor gripe that I have is when a TB or coin is listed as being in a cache, several finders report that it is not in the cache, yet no action is taken on the part of the cache owner or TB owner to clear it from the cache's inventory. It's pretty much gotten to the point that I take TB/coin listings with a grain of salt. I agree that it is sad that they go missing in the first place. I've had the worst trouble with geocoins (of six USAs that I've released, only one still is moving). I'm glad that the TB sheets allow for some warning, so I suppose that it could be worse.
  3. Not in the area but this might help. Try creating a pocket query with difficulty and terrain both at 1, and limit to traditional caches. From that, you may be able to glean some quick grabs.
  4. Well, it was three of us that got to go on the BoB run. We found 97 BoBs and 102 for the day, including a FTF. Hopefully the next time we have an outing there will be more that come along.
  5. I can think of at least six. Seriously, I think that would be a statistic that would be hard to determine. Not everyone puts down their location, and if you go on the number of caches in a given state, then early on I could have been considered from Iowa. (My 2nd and 3rd finds where there.) There's a website that lists those with 200 finds or more and groups them by state or country based on info collected about caching habits. For Indiana, that's at 234 (teams). I would say that the actual number for all cachers would be perhaps ten times that, but that's a pure guess.
  6. It looks like we'll be looking at leaving Lafayette around 8:00 AM EDT on Saturday in order to have adequate time to run through the series. For those interesting in carpooling or caravaning, we'll be meeting at the Meijer parking lot in Lafayette, exit 172 of I-65. (This is the same place as the A.P.E. run in January.) A R.S.V.P. would be nice, but feel free to show up at the last minute if you want. We haven't decided on a meetup place in the Chicago area quite yet. Partially this is based on limited knowledge of the area, but I do recall some large retail areas where we could gather. It's also difficult to predict an arrival time given the varying nature of city traffic. However, if I hear interest in some others coming from elsewhere, we'll settle on somewhere. For those interested in joining up midway, well, the problem is that I don't have a cell phone. About the best that I could do is post a bookmark list of our intended route. Then perhaps we could meet up based on whether we gotten to a cache in line or not. So far it looks like myself and a couple of others. We certainly would like at least a small swarm.
  7. The current forecast that I have for Chicago has it cool (40's Farenheit) but quite sunny, nice weather for cache hunting. Also, two of the BoB caches are disabled, but that still leaves 97 to hunt. I'm working on a path through the caches in order to keep distance and time to a minimum. I'm inclined to start at BoB 99 in the north, but would be fine starting on the south end. I'm thinking that whoever would like to carpool with me can email me and work out details. I would like to be up in the area by 11:00 CDT (noon eastern), which would generally mean leaving out from Lafayette about 9:00 AM (or earlier if other caches are hit en route). For others who would like to met at the area, I probably need suggestions as my knowledge of the region goes as far north as Wilmette.
  8. After a decent amount of labour, the Indiana Spirit Quest bookmark lists have been merged into one grand volume. Including the caches in Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario, there are 467 caches on the list. I've added the cache owner and county of location to the notes of each entry, which I hope will be useful. If I've made any errors (some were edited in the wee hours of the night), please let me know and I'll correct them. Indiana Spirit Quest Bookmark List
  9. So far I've only gotten only commitment. If the weather holds for this weekend (should have some idea by Wednesday or Thursday), it's a go. However, if a surge of interest for the following weekend comes, I suppose that would be the target date. I would prefer that as a rain date though.
  10. Congratulations on the house. Maybe you'll have a travel bug hotel nearby. Anyway, I've not gotten any private replies, so as far as I'm concerned, the date is still open to discussion. Also, meeting up in the Chicago area separately is perfectly fine. I'm simply thinking about carpooling in order to reduce fuel consumption and costs.
  11. It's a slow process of moving everything over onto one list. The ones that are out of order are still on the other lists, just not moved over yet. (I'm skipping around for no adequately explained reason.) I'm also adding notes to each of the listings, and that adds time as well. Hopefully it will be in good shape within a week.
  12. I like the new menu in the upper right. While not a big issue, what if a user could have a set default value? In any case, thanks for the improvements.
  13. 1) Looking forward to it. Thanks for the update. 2) I agree that 500 would be too much to have up at once. How about having a user defined variable with options for 10, 20, 50, and 100? At least include the 100 since that's what has been the case before.
  14. I think that they're still working out some issues, given the number of complaints that I've seen (and I didn't look hard). At least it's now allowing up to 500 caches per list, so I'm beginning to combine the ISQ bookmarks. I just hope that they get the ordering issue fixed.
  15. Will there be a return to an ordered list? Some of my bookmark lists (which I'm merging) are very highly ordered and would be nice to have that available. Thanks.
  16. It's been a while since I've been to South Bend, and when I do go it's usually with my wife, who isn't big on stamina. But I agree that would be a good warm-up, and perhaps an outing might be useful there. Actually, there's the original GeoGolf caches on the west side of Chicago. That would be a good outing as well. I tend to favour out-of-state trips for this kind of group activity as there are likely fewer Indiana cachers that have done them.
  17. We had some discussion about this a while back, but it seemed to fade out. Anyway, after the last CINCO event, our organisation log book, which is held onto by the next host of an event, is still with me. Thus the fates require the fulfillment of Destiny! Therefore, I will officially begin planning for a BoB run. For those interested, it is a series of 99 caches in the north suburbs of Chicago, all within a space of about twelve miles, if I remember correctly. I was thinking that a few car loads could make the trip and try to hit them all. For info on the caches, check out BoB 99. A bookmark list of the caches is available as well. I'm looking at April 8, which is the first Saturday after daylight saving time starts, with April 15 as a rain date. We could meet in some designated location in NW Indiana (Lafayette again perhaps) and convoy to the area.
  18. I once found a cache that gave out coupons for a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts to the first three finders. (I was third to find. ) I think that the idea of commercialisation is to avoid direct advertising. Your idea is not that, just a cool gimmick that happens to use a particular product line. You're fine.
  19. As long as the bureaucracy isn't too awful, which it won't be (most likely) if we play by the rules, the only thing this does is keep up from placing caches willy-nilly. Given the nature of park lands, that's a good thing. So no more ready-made containers to toss out of the window while driving by. We'll have to (gasp!) actually plan cache hides. Just my few pfennings.
  20. I doubt that you'll get much in the way of resistance as people tend to include at least their names when I get e-mail responses from them. I think that most of us use our Geocaching handles as just that, a handle. It's sort of a way of having a hobby personna without the baggage of creating a back story. There will be some that will resist simply because of non-geocaching preferences (such as concerns over e-mail abuse). However, I believe that event attendees will not be reticent about their identities as long as it remains within the standard public info (name, occupation, hometown, but not birthdays or tax ID numbers). Just my quick thoughts and zinc-based one-cent pieces.
  21. Modest or not, congratulations on your milestone find.
  22. Allow me to add my accolades.
  23. It looks like a few of us have joined the fellowship of Bletchley Park. Congrats to a couple of cachers, dougsmiley and kb9vgr, whom I met recently not long after their find. As for any information that I was able to glean from them, all it did was keep me from looking too hard in the wrong direction, so no secret was revealed. Indeed, I solved it only when a magic invisible helmet fell from the sky and allowed me to read the ciphers in their original tongue.
  24. It shouldn't be a problem. Indeed, it would be nice for CINCO to have its equivalent of a Cache-911 system. I think that we could include possible cache adoption options, but that's another subject. Actually, I'm planning on stopping by today (weather permitting) to add a log book and clean up a bit on the cache in question. I sort of been waiting for a time that I could hit another cache in the area. (Silly me.) [edited for silly omission of an n't]
  25. Resurrecting a older topic, but are there any plans for a 2006 trackable Indiana geocoin in the works? I got some the the 2005 version and thought they were rather neat, even if not trackable. I would guess that people would pay a little more per coin to have it trackable (myself included).
