  1. I'm getting the same error, searching by city and state, zip code and on google maps.
  2. Seems they were to much work for the owner, a friend of ours it taking over or submitting a new listing for one of them soon, but for now they are gone.
  3. Skip the fees and donate the prizes yourself. Or gather a group together to chip in on prizes. We did that with our first CITO and it seemed to be a big hit and the cost was minimal since it was split 6 ways.
  4. Our first full year isn't up but we're at 585, we had hoped to make 500 by our 1 year anniversary and we did a few months early at that. As far as finding that many and staying married it helps to have both husband and wife just as obsessed with caching. We're no where close to some of the big numbers listed on here, but we're having fun, and I'm pretty sure that's the only thing that counts!
  5. It depends on what you consider a team. My family caches together much of the time, Mom, Dad and two kids. Now due to work and school constraints we can only usually do this on the weekends. However most days my husband will grab a single cache on his way home from work. It's a long drive and this gives him a little fun to break up the tedium. Sometimes I go to a park or stop after a grocery store trip with the kids to grab a cache. I don't see anything wrong with this approach. It's not a shameless ploy to run up our numbers, we're a family and all the caches go on our family account. However we are also part of a "team", but there is no "team account". We go caching together and reference the "team" but we don't count their cache finds as our own. If we did that would be a shameless attempt to run up numbers. But I think our current approach of family and team caching is perfectly fair.
  6. I must admit when I first joined I felt exactly the same way, but I kept plugging away and before long I got the hang of the site. Now almost a year later it takes me about 5 minutes to gather cache data for a weekend of fun, but there is a learning curve. I concur with the others if you had taken the time to ask some questions or spent a little more time trying to learn the site you likely would not feel this way. Your loss.
  7. A mandated either number of days caching or number of finds made before you are allowed to hide.
  8. Our winter has not been bad at all, only a few snow falls and the temps when we've been caching mostly haven't been much below 20. We did do a several mile hike up a mountain in 13 degree weather one week to get a FTF, but that's been the worst of it. We've probably gotten about 200 caches since it got cold.
  9. A Visitor From Heaven~ By Twila Paris A visitor from heaven If only for awhile A gift of love to be returned We think of you and smile A visitor from heaven Accompanied by grace Reminding of a better love And of a better place With aching hearts and empty arms We send you with a name It hurts so much to let you go But we're so glad you came We're so glad you came A visitor from heaven If only for a day We thank Him for the time He gave And now it's time to say We trust you to the Fathers love And to His tender care Held in the everlasting arms And we're so glad you're there We're so glad you're there With breaking hearts and open hands We send you with a name It hurts so much to let you go But we're so glad you came We're so glad you came This song was read at our daughters funeral and also was in a book I was given after her death. It meant so much to me at that time and still I can't read it without a tear coming to my eye.
  10. I also participate each year in the March of Dimes walk. Our family was blessed with an easy (somewhat) pregnancy and birth of our first daughter 5 1/2 years ago. I say easy because I was only on bedrest with her for 1 month due to low amniotic fluid levels. Our second daughter was born severely premature just prior to the point of viability. There is not a day I do not think about her, and what my life would be like with my 3 girls. Our third daughter was born after a very stressful pregnancy after I had to undergo a cerclage (premature birth moms probably know what I am talking about) twice daily injections, weekly doctors visits and one scare where I thought we would lose her early on. After 25 or so weeks on bedrest, I was induced and our miracle baby just turned two last month. Her name actually means miraculous. So that's my story and what March of Dimes means to me. Without it's research my little miracle would not be running around my kitchen right now getting into trouble. Heck without the research of March of Dimes my younger sister would not be around either, she was born at 30 weeks 24 years ago and barely survived. I am thinking of doing a premature birth/ pregnancy loss awareness geocoin and from the response to this thread I am thinking it would be well received.
  11. I agree with the others make it a series, we don't ignore any caches, if it's out there we will make an attempt to find it, but I think a 50 point multi is just over kill. In other words if it was in my area I'd get there eventually but I sure wouldn't make it a priority.
  12. I learned exactly how to tackle a 5 star difficulty cache. No, no one mentioned on these forums the cache I tackled. They simply mentioned an idea, and when I saw a cache that may fit that idea I applied what I had read and was rewarded with the appearance of a cache container.
  13. I really enjoyed that article, I'm telling you I felt the same way when I found my first LPC. Now they are more then a little mundane but that first one. . . "they hid a cache here? who would've thunk!?"
  14. Here's Sampson (and the kids and me) we got FTF on the cache we were hunting that day!
  15. My 5 year old sent out a geocoin with the goal of traveling all 50 states. A generous cacher picked it up and took it with him on a month long geocaching vacation where it visited over 30 states. When he returned home he dropped it to continue on it's travels. It was picked up right away and the user noted in their log they took the coin but didn't log it. After a few weeks I emailed them to encourage them to log the coin and move it along, which they did. The next cacher picked it up, again noted they took the coin but didn't log it. It's been 5 months! I have been in touch with them via email repeatedly, they confirmed they have the coin, and would drop it soon. Nothings happened, I offered to send a SASE for them to return the coin to us. No, no they said no need for that give us your address and we'll send it to you, it's been 6 weeks since that interaction. I updated the geocoin's page today so at least it wouldn't show up in the cache it's still logged into and I edited the description to this My coin My question is, am I trying to hard to get my coin moving again? It's my 5 year olds coin and she really wants to see it moving again. These cachers aren't newbie's and they have moved several other TB's and coins, I don't know what the problem is with mine. I'm trying not to hassle them to much I've probably only sent the 4-5 emails during the time they've had it, but it's been 5 months! They frequently log on to the site, even if they aren't caching in to the cold, so it shouldn't be to hard just to log the coin. Any other suggestions to nicely encourage them to move it along? Thanks
  16. Maryland has two planned for this year already. lpyankeefan has planned one next weekend and we have another planned in February. We are trying to plan one a month with other team wimp-out members. See the Psycho Urban Cache series by Vinny and Sue for information on team wimp-out
  17. I can't believe the defensiveness of some people (not in this thread, ones who take offense to corrected coords), or perhaps I can. We recently hid our first 3 caches (after finding 300) and I did exactly what was mentioned earlier in the thread. Marked, walked away, marked, walked away, repeat as needed. Until I had numerous waypoints and then averaged. On one of our hides I had trouble getting good accuracy on my GPS so I NOTED IT on the cache page. I ASKED for others to give me feedback and let me know if the coords were off. So far everyone has said they were dead on, which is a relief. But if I'm hunting for or hiding anything I want the coords to be as accurate as possible. It's hard for me to understand why anyone would want their coords to be inaccurate, or why they would take offense to someone posting better coords if theirs were found to be off by a great deal.
  18. Add me to the "if any one ordered extras and is looking to sell let me know" bunch. I don't have any coins to trade but would gladly purchase one of these coins from someone/ anyone!
  19. We just received our first TB tags in the mail yesterday and my daughter would like to send some TB's to the West coast and have them race back home. Is there anyone willing to receive these bugs in the mail and drop them for us? Thanks, Scrubs *Will cross post in other West coast forums*

  21. We just go a bunch of pencils of Oriental Trading. They say simply "Go Forth and Cache" no name or anything but I'd like to think of them as our sig item at least for the few caches we can actually get a pencil into anyway. Any thoughts? Like or hate the slogan?
  22. Two, but we're Team Wimp-out so you can't expect to much from us! We know our limitations and we're there to have fun.
