  1. Don't bang your head against a brick wall. Work with the reviewer and you are more likely to get a better result for you, finders and muggles. Explanations and compromising help. That's both ways and requires dialogue.
  2. Check out cache CBN 061 for updates. Weather looks ok, but I will be bringing gloves (note to self, please remember to pack gloves). (Sorry I know the image is going to be large from a preview but I will learn later how to resize). Hopefully see a few reprobates tomorrow.
  3. Not actually similar. The above youtube just shows you interesting hides avoiding telling what cache. This thread is about a site that actually gives away the final location to people who are just registered to their site. Well I assume it does, I'm not a registered user so cannot see the hidden information. Wouldn't it be great if it just sent your details of would be cachers off to Groundspeak! Well, I suppose not similar. In the beginning, Groundspeak considered it similar, as they banned Sven temporarily, but they backed down. They have definitely, in the past, gone after cheater "final coordinate" websites. One based in Vermont comes to mind. I think it was a Yahoo group. Don't quote me on that, or make me have to look it up though. Very true, I guess his Youtube site name didn't help - geocachespoilers or similar.

  5. Just to be absolutely clear, I will treat these caches as I would any other cache. Are I see Andy has kept to his word of treating them like any other caches and has now disabled a good few of them.... And the series is live again.
  6. Carrot cake by any chance? Well I'd rather we got to the finish than try and rush.
  7. For those who were worried that this outing may end up as a recovery of 104 dead caches, no need to worry any longer. Great news and the plans can continue.
  8. Do you have a cache number for that ;-) I'm hoping we will have done half way by four pm. 7 miles at 3 to 4 miles per hour is roughly 2 hours, plus time for each of the 50 caches, let's say 2 minutes. Perfect, half way should be lunch time. We better be quick at each cache.
  9. wow that image is large!!!!! My phone isn't that large thankfully.
  10. Now there's a question. I had thought of bringing a large gas stove and frying pan and a tray of eggs to make egg banjosbut I'm not convinced on time. So in the end of opted for the easy option and would suggest the local tea room called "the lock". Not been there before but they do breakfast for those who want to buy food or drink. They even sent me a menu last night for those who want to plan in advance.
  11. I think you make an excellent point Andy. It is about the quality of caches (and must admit I doubt if all/any of mine are of high quality). My perception of geocaching has fluctuated over the few years I’ve played. Particularly as situations changed; examples include, having a mutt, losing my mutt, buying a smartphone, buying a more accurate handhold unit, getting into puzzles, travelling and attending mega events. These are perhaps for another thread. I started with a bang, my first cache being at the top of a mountain. I then got home and found caches of mixed quality and have learnt that sometimes it’s about going for the single cache of great quality and others it’s about the walk where a trail of caches take you (especially where the trail ends by the car). However, for me (and this is where I fear we will be in disagreement though appreciate that each person enjoys different aspects of the game), I’m hoping that the quality of this series is going to be in the collective and the overall 14 mile walk. It will be interesting to see just how the proximity of caches fair for me but that is part of the learning curve and if I feel they are too close for me then I know what I will avoid in future. I know that a couple of the COs of this series also love great quality caches too and that this series just brings a different aspect to the game that I’m sure will be enjoyed by some and hated by others. How do I know that quality is enjoyed too? Because they came to watch me attempt a cache they had found and knew it would be entertaining. The cache in question is “Wellies required” and my log even starts by comparing to a 1000 drive-bys. The COs of this series even favourited (if that’s a word which I’m convinced it is not, again another forum thread I’m sure) this cache. I really do enjoy the challenge caches or the wonderful scenery or the interesting spot I would otherwise not have known about but sometimes I just want a drive-by to log I was there or a series to while away a few hours and in the past wear the mutt out. I’m glad that you already know what you don’t like, for me I’m yet to discover within this aspect. Reading several of your previous forum posts I know I lean towards your view more often than not. Possibly I’m a little fuzzier in places though. Hopefully after attempting this series I will have a better understanding of myself and I’m sure I will post in my log at #61. The last time I had a challenge of this nature was on the Doc’s Chiltern Hundreds and the mutt and I made a good dent in the series before we got our first DNF and called it quits.
  12. A place holder for the cache. What a great idea. That will certainly help identify those to DNF or find - time saving and geolitter saving. I for one certainly support this.
  13. There's an event on 21st Dec in Essex where you might find someone. It's at breakfast meet at Heybridge Basin. There is likely to be a little caching afterwards too. ;-)
  14. Lunatics-R-US ordered. Fancy dress a must me feels, well for a walk anyway. I wonder if Geolympix Geoff will show up??? Really looking forward to this impromptu event and seeing all those not seen in a while. Seems like there are a few options for the return leg that I don't think the bus, taxi or bike will be needed. Thanks JolyJax for the offer, what a great idea. Nearer the time we can sort the shuttle runs out so as those who want to get to the Breakfast bash from Chemlsford can get a lift and then vice versa. P.S. As for the CBN series, I do hope it's back live, especially after the recentlog on #61. But that's a different thread I do believe.
  15. Think I remember this one and did not like the hint. Thankfully an easy find with warnings of not on bank.
  16. Caught by other cachers - Yep and I've discovered a caching police GeoCoin for the privilage Stopped by police - tick Stopped by armed police - tick - near Windsor castle, well actually in the deer park late at night. Stopped by border control abroad - tick - thank heavens for the free geocaching app to explain. Stopped by traffic police - nope and hopefully never as I might be in the wrong spot. As for muggles - I don't think I have ever been stopped though I have used a few to assist in many different ways.
  17. How convenient, there's a cache bu the bus stop in Maldon and only just over 3km back to the free carparking. Great Suggestion mcwomble, thank you. And as we are ending up in Maldon hopefully I'll be able to get a pie mash too.
  18. I like the sound of the 31 bus. Will have to look for a time table.
  19. Thoughts do include two cars, or a taxi back due to parking costs in Chemlsford. We had thought of cycling along the tow path and that would be fun. Again possibly two cars to get all the bikes down there and then we can leave the bikes chained up while the cars are rearranged. I hear that the tow paths are a little muddy at the moment but certainly an option. If cycling back I too would probably want to use the local roads as should be a little smoother. And it would seem shorter. The walk is advertised as 14 miles and I very roughly worked it out as 12.5 to 15.5 miles plus a small loop towards the end that might be rude to avoid. The road back according to google is 13 miles. Here is a list of all cachesalong the route and not just the 104 of the series. As the good doc points out, it is currently disabled so I will update here if I hear it's activated. Though of course the event will still be going ahead regardless.
  20. I'd hate to talk about heading out and attempting the power trail on an event cache page as that's not in keeping with events. However I have setup an event right by the start of the power trail for anyone who wishes to join us on 21st Dec. The event is "Breakfast meet at Heybridge Basin" is for breakfast of course and then we are heading upstream. Please join us and/or pass on to others who be intersted.
  21. I'm not a number whore but I do like a good challenge. The Chiltern Hundreds was a challenge for me and I was pleased that I had found the majority in one day and on my own (well I had my trusty mutt with me (and yes she was under control all day without biting the good doctor - sorry, thread merge there) before my first DNF of the series. I'm looking forward to this being a different challenge and hoping that others can join. Well I for one am looking forward to the scenery too and therefore please place me in the "Do it" camp. I'm going to be starting from Heybridge Basin on Wednesday 21st December at 09:30 for those wishing to join. I hear the path can be a little boggy at this time of year so am leaning towards a YOMP (Or should that be a YOCP for your own caching pace) rather than cycle. Oh dear maybe I'm going to make this series difficult for myself by getting in there before the number of caches start mounting up at each location. Though I'm hoping that the clue and hide makes these really easy to identify if they are not there.
  22. Firstly before I word this wrong and everyone thinks I'm in favour of the fake hydrant, I don't. I don't believe that there needs to be a rule as there is already law of the land. Awareness is required and therefore agree that if someone places a cache stating in their cache page that it's a fake hydrant sign that the review simply says no. As HH said, the power is theirs. I do however like the Met approach of asking for a photo and think this should be uploaded to the page when requesting the cache to be approved. This image should then only be able to seen by reviewers, the owner and perhaps even the emergency services but should be able to be updated if required. The description should also be of any pertinent points to where it's been hidden e.g. it will be a magnetic sign saying throw your rubbish away or in a drain pipe on the side of a pub.
  23. Got myself a single 3 watt head torch for £10 and oh boy is it bright. Thankfully I can dim it for walking. Now I see what all the fuss is about.
