Caches in British Telecom phone boxes
metal-bijou replied to Graculus's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Can’t argue with the logic. Though there have been some good hides in phone boxes. Some that have been puzzles with great satisfaction of solving and others tricky little things that I still haven’t found. Though saying that, the two best examples I can think of are in red boxes that are no longer owned by BT. -
Does anyone refer to cache Attributes while out caching?
metal-bijou replied to Delta68's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I've had a couple of people wished they'd used the attributes at GZ to one of my caches. Only so that they didn't waste time without the specialest eqpt. -
Does anyone refer to cache Attributes while out caching?
metal-bijou replied to Delta68's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Really? When you were already out caching? Indeed. PQ of area I was off diving with the club or when diving away on holiday. Never came to anything though but I lived in hope... -
I can't check right now but usually when it pops up with only one overlapping cache, there is a link in the pop up box to go tto the next.

I used to to search for scuba caches but otherwise never. -
What a great idea for a TB. Certainly would want my mutt included in the list @madein alab

Asking for help with puzzle caches...

I also note that two of those who have responded in this thread may notice their help to me listed. For which I am most grateful. -
Asking for help with puzzle caches...
metal-bijou replied to RikW's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think a CO will always let you know how much they are willing to divulge. And different CO will be different for different caches. The CO that I know want their caches to be found and are more than helpful. CO help to me have included: Technical assistance when out of area and have guessed how the puzzle would be solved but didn’t have the right tools with me. It still needed more work to find the key components afterwards and therefore still rewarding. Helping for a first to find. Not just me I should add. I’m pretty sure they loved the fact that their cryptic (cough - blatant if you are on their wave length - cough) hints are having to be used and seeing a race struggling to unfold in front of their eyes. Teaching me stuff outside my knowledge. After a gentle prod in the right direction and me saying I wouldn’t ask for more help, they’ve come back with a twinkle in their eye saying they love giving further hints just as setting the puzzle. Logistical assistance. Confirmation that I’m on the right track. I looked at these points and realise that some CO have done almost all of these and much much more. For me it’s just like asking anyone for help of any kind and certainly similar in some respects to asking for help with locating the physical element of the cache. I’d like to think that if I’m asking anyone for help that I’d be prepared to ask the CO too. I might prefer to ask a friend. Even the most evilly set cache can be by the warmest CO... -
My thanks for the cache are genuine appreciation for the effort someone has made in placing a cache. It doesn't say if I liked it or didn't like it. Ok I'm probably not the target for this resentment of TFTC as I tend to having something in the log though this will annoy many I'm sure, the bulk of the something else is likely to be copy and paste from the day in general. As a cache owner I do really appreciate reading some good logs and there is often a little disappointment when there's not much content, however I'm happy that the cache has been found and hopefully the finder is happy they found it even it they were just increasing their find count. Cachers will develop over time and while some will now always use TFTC, others may find that once they’ve gone to the effort of placing their cache that it’s nice to receive and therefore write more substantial logs. I’m probably more upset with a very good friend whom I got into caching; he doesn’t log his finds at all. To me even a blank log lets you know it’s been found. However I know the enjoyment he gets is more about the hunt than the find count.

As you are premium member you can create a pocket query to search for any size container. -
"Virtual" logging of geocoins
metal-bijou replied to Izzy and the Lizard King's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
GSAK macros and other stats tools do allow capture of the number of trackables discovered to be displayed. So I suppose human nature will always be to compete where a stat can be shown. I personally do not understand it for trackables either. -
Countdown to the Geolympix!

This really is great news for all those who have had the confidence to commit to attending the event (sorry, mega event). -
Only just coming to this thread for the first time I was just about to start my own story of the origin of the species but I cannot plagiarise Darwin or beat post #27 and then realise the contest is over. In which case I would like to vote for post 27 for what it may be worth.

Love the idea. Should be relatively simple using the visible=false function. As for snapshot, this could you se the timer function, though I'm yet to play with that.

Working Out Cordinations
metal-bijou replied to RobCharles1981's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Yep, and great it was too. Fave point given -
Favourite points help me search for quality caches, obviously with limitations. The downside now is if I primarily go for quality then I will not be able to reward fave points for all those I think are quality.

Love this, there's an Irish one that still sits unfound. It would be nice if this occurs too. I had one like it I was going to set out but never mind.

If you get stuck with the formulas and have an iPhone, I can strongly recommend an app I use (and have no affiliation towards): GCBUDDY This cache is one of my favourites and was great unplanned fun. Only one of the checkpoints was difficult to find as it was very over grown. -
A modest proposal for forum posting

B (but I don't know which) and therefore E This would probably sit with all my responses to date. -
I have never thought of giving a dog a banana, what a great idea.

There's a UK virtual based on trigpoints which you can find in multiple locations - Ye Old Survey Monument.

I agree and it seems the CO of events I go to do the same.

Me like. It's the corrected coordinates that are user entered and therfore should have the ghoust image or the green question mark or the X. I was very much in favour of the goust and or the green until I thought about printing in black and white or grey scale.
