  1. I am Mrs. Prairieview_IL's sister and yup, she did hit me with a Hot Wheels track! And since our huge train table was taken down years ago (that we used to drive all our Hot Wheels on), Mrs. P will have nothing to play on. I would suggest giving the Jeep to our third sister who owned the Hot Wheels Jeep when we were kids and had the farm. Yes, I know you own the farm now and a real Jeep but think about poor Melanie...
  2. I just bought a 7 oz. can of Glow In the Dark Rustoleum Specialty paint at Home Depot. I can't speak for the durability of it but I plan on putting a coat of some clear UV protectant over the paint. They also have a reflective finish spray paint as does Krylon.
  3. I wish I could say it was occasionally. This has gone on for weeks now. I went two weeks ago from Illinois to Pennsylvania, did some geocaching on the way. I waited for a week for the icons to reappear before I left, only having to resort to the "identify" button the night before I left. It took me forever to plan my route! No, this has gone on for quite some time, I believe a couple of months.
  4. I've done a search for this topic but can't find the answer. I bring up the map for the cache locations, the "traditional cache" icon IS checked. The map shows every kind to cache BUT traditional caches. No traditional cache icons. I have to click "Identify" and all of the caches are then identified by numbers, including traditional caches. Why is this happening? Thanks in advance.
  5. I have a LOT of trouble with people making judgments about caches. Hopefully, geocachers will look around and see that not all of what they eat is five star, that every movie they watch didn't win an Oscar, that every sermon at church (or Temple) didn't change their life for the better, that every book they read didn't deserve the Pulitzer. This is a small sampling of life, it's good, its bad, it appeals to some, it doesn't to others. I'm pretty glad I don't live in an area where people are "rating" caches. Yesterday I was involved in a thread because a muggle had stolen three of my caches in a row because she "didn't like" geocachers coming through the preserve, on public land, near her house (her house backs up to the preserve). I was blown away by the audacity of this woman to decide it was OK to remove my caches, that I paid for, planned and placed, had people repeatedly go to find them to have them stolen immediately. I want to know... how is it ANY DIFFERENT to suggest that people "remove" caches they don't like? I'd say WORSE because you KNOW what goes into placing caches, the effort and getting a DNF for the searchers. I really was so happy to find this new interest, Geocaching. But I read the venom and hypocrisy and how assumptions were made to Granpa Alex, I am disheartened. And Granpa Alex took the high road. I was so amazed at his compassionate, thoughtful answers. Thanks for restoring my faith!
  6. I like the CITO idea.... I'm new so I've never been involved in one. I sent an email to each of the people who had found Petrified! or been foiled by "Mean Muggle Wacko Woman" to look at the web page. Only one of the geocachers I actually know. Some have emailed me and seem like terrific people. It would be nice to meet the local cachers, I haven't been to an Arizona meeting yet.
  7. Yes, I think it is stealing. BUT having said that, I have dealt with lawyers in the past two years constantly splitting hairs about details just like this. And IF I wrote a letter or spoke to the partners, I'd want to know what I'm talking about. Sometimes it seems so clear... people's intent, motivations, right and wrong. But then you start talking about LAW. What's ethical and what's law are two different things. Right? Anyway, it's just three small caches. I go back and forth.
  8. OK, I really laughed.... but what about this? Is it stealing to take something you found on public land. Yes, I had my email address on it. She was obviously "watching" the cache log and removing them as soon as I put a new one out. Is it stealing (nevermind what I THINK). Legally, is it stealing?
  9. I thought the receptionist sounded younger. Also note: The name of the firm is Mariano & Allen PLC, one of the email addresses above is for a Lynn Allen. It is possible it is her. I doubt it, but it is possible.
  10. Well, I have nothing against lawyers. It just amazes me that someone would be stupid enough to call from their work phone, at a law firm, and tell me she stole three of my caches!
  11. The phone number posted is the one she called from. When I went into my cell phone directory and called the number back (after she hung up), that's when the receptionist answered saying "no one from this office would ever make such a call".
  12. That is JUST the point... it is NOT this person's mountain and I would NOT call her a lady either. I bet the firm wouldn't want one of their employees calling people on their business phones, admitting they've stolen something three times! The receptionist actually hung up on me when I said I wanted to talk to an office manager about a phone call that was made from their office. I think that Bionico is right, the receptionist knew the woman. I really don't want to get into a fight. I also don't want some crazy woman thinking she can push geocachers off public land. It definitely has helped listening to the extremely creative, witty ideas people have for revenge. I fantasize about using three tubes of JB Weld on an indestructable cache glued to a hole inside a boulder called "The Crazy Homeowner Cache" with a note inside (welded) that asks all cachers to CITO. I will archive the cache but am going to sleep on whether I do want to place another cache there. It is near my home, I do enjoy hiking there, it is right along a hiking trail (this is desert, rocks and boulders so vegetation is not an issue). The jury is still out but this is cathartic!
  13. Um, I'm pretty sure John's just kidding about the theiving lawyers!
  14. Actually, her intent was to have me reply on my web site, so she sounded non-descript. When she called me the second time, I was really cheerful, saying "Wow, I've been so curious about why you've called! What can I do for you?". She never really ranted, just ended her diatribe with saying that her and her neighbors were not happy about geocachers placing geocaches on the mountain. I started to respond with how I couldn't believe the audacity of her stealing my caches when she hung up. No, I wasn't yelling but sure wanted to.
  15. I have the first phone message still saved. It wouldn't be too hard to find the person who works at this specific place, at a certain phone number, who lives on Echo Lane.
  16. I was SO mad earlier, I wish you could see me laughing. Keep it up! You guys are much more creative than I am!
  17. Yes, this looney tune has actually made a rock lined pathway along the ridge and said that some of the rocks were moved. NOT THAT SHE ISN'T CHANGING THE ENVIRONMENT HERSELF!
  18. OOOooo, GOOD IDEA for Member's only! I just hit my 100th cache so I'm still learning.
  19. Honestly, it isn't that close to her home in my opinion. She is at the base of a mountain, it is near the top. And yes, she is obviously using a GPS to steal the caches. I've moved it three times and spent fifteen minutes each time averaging new coordinates. I know it isn't worth "a fight". But it sure makes a geocacher fantasize about possible options. I'm a very mild-mannered girl who always is respectful and CITO. The cachers that have been up there are mostly very experienced cachers and I don't believe her claims that people throw rocks. I've been so irked that people have traveled up to the cache only to search for nothing. One of them was a friend of mine who actually went up there using two canes (I couldn't believe she tried but was so touched). ARRGGG. I'm getting mad again!
  20. This morning, I got a message from a woman saying she wanted to contact me regarding my missing caches for Petrified! She does not leave her name but asked me to post to the site whether I was the correct person. I did. Later, I get a call from this woman admitting she had taken the caches. She lives near the area and didn't want any geocachers there. I never interrupted her once. When I started to speak, she hung up on me. I posted a new note on the web site more or less saying exactly how I felt about the stealing and her believing that public land was hers to police as she saw fit. I found out where she worked from the phone number but the receptionist refused to help me. I know what street this woman lives on, it backs up against the preserve. What would you do? Write a letter to the partners of her law firm (along with her street address)? Let it go? Plant a fourth cache that has a boobytrap (just kidding)? Contact the authorities with my information? Have a field day with this one guys!
  21. YOU ARE A GEM! Saved me bucks! Thanks!
  22. OK, let's find out a little more if everyone is game. I don't have the software yet so I haven't been able to go over the details. Now, if I get MapSend Topo for my hiking, and MapSend Streets to use in Phoenix and then go on to St. Louis area, would I want three cards to swap out? The answers are very helpful.
