  4. WElcome to the addiction!!!!!! Happy Hunting!
  5. We don't save our printouts, as they are in a shambles by the time we get back home. I keep all info from the caches we find in a notebook..from the name of the cache and who placed it down to what we took/left and later write in who took the item we left and the date they took it. That's why I wish everyone would log online what they take or leave..even if they take or leave nothing..only takes a second to type TNLN. Thanx for the interesting question and good luck on your finds! Happy hunting!
  6. We saw this article and thought someone ought to attach a travel bug to this bottle...lol Addie Devine found a pen pal after she put a message in a bottle and tossed it into the sea along the Maine coast last summer. And now the bottle is being used to ferry a sort of seagoing chain letter. Addie, who is 8-years-old and lives in Cumberland, Maine, tossed the bottle into the Atlantic near Maine's Acadia National Park last July. Mike Rumph found the corked wine bottle last month in the pluff mud behind his Sullivans Island house and found two notes inside. "Hello, who ever gets this note, please write back. This note comes from the Saddleback Island cabin ... Hope you get this," said Addie's note, written July 6, 2002. It included her address and the names of her parents, Suzette and John Devine. The second note was from Kristine and Charlie Perry of Jacksonville, Fla., who found the bottle last August as they were boating near Deer Isle off the Maine coast. Kristine Perry said they thought Addie's note was cute and, on their way back to Florida, added a second note asking whoever found the bottle to write. They tossed the bottle overboard about three miles off the South Carolina coast last Sept. 15. The Rumphs called both the Devines and the Perrys to tell them they found the bottle. And the youngest of the Rumphs' three daughters, 7-year-old Abby, wrote Addie Devine and included some drawings of her pets. She recently got a letter back in which Addie told about her family, her dog named Hinckley, her fish named Golden and chipmunks named Fat Louie and Jerky. But the bottle isn't finished carrying messages. The Rumphs are putting a third message in the bottle with the others and Mike Rumph plans to drop it into the Gulf Stream during a fishing tournament next weekend. John Devine said it's fitting the message in the bottle was found. He noted it was written at a cabin on an island with no electricity, telephones or running water where his family vacations each summer. "It's the most exciting thing I've ever done," Addie Devine said. "I never thought anyone would ever get my note."
  7. check out this cache. might need a helmet while looking for it!http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=72839
  8. We enjoy finding unusual things but have found that the things we enjoy collecting the most of are pins and keyrings. It's fun keeping a collection of finds. It is disappointing to find junk in a cache, but when we do, we try to leave something nice for the next person. We leave things for adults and children alike, as we realize there are children that go along with their parents. Happy Hunting!
  9. I think that's an awesome idea. I've considered doing a book cache myself. I've also left a book in a cache that wasn't a book themed cache. But hopefully someone will enjoy finding it anyway. I say Go For It! Happy Hunting!
  10. Welcome to quite an addiction! You are gonna LOVE this sport/hobby! We are totally hooked and have had the best time with it! Good Luck to ya! Happy Hunting!
  11. www.werlostndwoods.tk not much to it, but heres ours.
  12. We like a good find as we are somewhat new to this and enjoy showing others our finds. We've found some pretty unusaul items and it's always much fun explaining where we found it, etc. We have found a few caches with junk, but found something to take regardless. We enjoy our little "collection" and look forward to adding to it! We recently moved and restocked a cache we had placed with very nice items (flooding in area), hoping there will be even trades, but if not, it will be fun reading the posts! When we find a cache with trash, we try to leave a couple good items for trading. What bugs us is when people don't mention a trade...but that's another story that we've posted already!
  13. That first find is enough to have anyone bitten by the bug. We haven't been at this very long ourselves. It really is ADDICTIVE! I've actually had dreams of caching and woken up exhausted! Hope you guys continue to have an awesome time with this new found hobby! Happy Hunting!
  14. We posted a thread on this ourselves recently. I'm going to repeat my reasons here why it bothers me. I keep a personal notebook of our finds, what we left and took, etc. I also like to keep track of who picked up what we left and when our item was taken. On the other side of it. I had seen that someone had left a book that I really hoped to find in a cache not far from where we live. Checked all the posts and no one had mentioned taking it. I was so excited about finding it. Got there and it had been taken sometime back, by someone who didn't log online. Needless to say, that was a HUGE disappointment!!!! Wish everyone would read your post and get a clue from it! Thank you for speaking out about this!
  15. We have also taken others to caches we've visited, making new geocaching converts! It's fun to watch someone else walk in circles for a bit and see the thrill when they find it. When their eyes light up and you see that smile..you know there's another bitten by the bug! Of course, we don't log the visit. They make their own username and log!
  16. After twisting my ankle on our second cache find , I went with hiking boots! I also found a nice walking stick for the trek out! I suggest ankle support!!! Happy Hunting!
  17. We enjoyed the article! Looking forward to seeing the pics! Thanks! Happy Hunting!
  18. We totally understand you guys, as we're sure everyone here will! Luckily, we started this adventure together and didn't have to change names. Glad you're both having a great time with the game...it is FUN!!!!!!!! Happy Hunting!
  19. We decided to go for it and buy a GPS unit to try out the game. We bought the cheapest we could find, a "Garmin Geko". Found it at a Wal-Mart for just under $100. Although you can find some caches without it, others would be impossible. We think it was definitely worth the investment. We figured out how to use it in about 20 minutes and took off to find our first cache. We've been hooked since! Hope you enjoy this sport! It's VERY VERY addictive! Happy Hunting!
  20. Thanks for posting this Shoebox! Where do we find this stuff, as mosquitos and ticks seem to love 1/2 of this duo! Thanks to all for any info!
  21. What Geocaching has done for us? Well, let's see...we're doing things together outside of the house, instead of doing things apart inside of it! We've definitely found a common interest after over 20 years of marriage! That's the main thing! hehe Other than that..well, we're getting great exercise...it's a wonderful topic to tell others about, and we've made a couple converts in just a short time!...now, when we go to Wally World or some dollar store, it's an adventure instead of a chore!...We are, at the moment, trying to figure out how to hide our best cache yet, as in ways to camouflage our new container, where to hide it, etc... Will the hobbies that branch out from it never cease??? As you can see, Geocaching has DEFINITELY been a huge PLUS for this duo! Happy Hunting!
  22. Very good idea! Thanks for thinking of it! Would be nice to see what people really think of the caches we place. I do enjoy reading all the logs..but an overall rating would be nice to see on caches we plan to visit! Happy Hunting!
  23. I think it's wonderful she wants to go along. Sounds like you're not sure about it, but we are married and always go together..have taken family and friends a couple of times, as well. I say, the more the merrier! Couldn't imagine going it alone without my significant other! Would hate for my partner to miss the fun! BTW...hiding the ring and posting coords sounds like a WONDERFUL idea!! Happy Hunting!!!!
  24. confused newbie leaves a couple of bucks in a new found cache!
  25. We don't see a problem with people knowing we're watching a certain cache. We would like to know who's watching ours, as we find it to be a compliment. Voted everyone.
