  1. This weekend there was an event here in Uddevalla, Sweden called FAD 2007 . One of the high points was a presentation of the Triton 500 by Magellan. They had just received it a couple of days before and I managed to get some time with it. It feels a little bit larger and heavier that my Explorist 500 but not much. It's VERY fast! Panning and scrolling the map in the Explorist is very slow and the unit keeps freezing when re-drawing the map. None of that in the Triton! I panned, scrolled and zoomed without any delay at all. They also showed the new VantagePoint software and it really looked good. It has some really cool features like some 3-D views for the new maps with more altitude information. According to the swedish rep the Triton will be available in Sweden on December 7.
  2. I called Magellan today and they said that there's something wrong with the unit. They have had a few others with the same fault. I will send it in and wait for it to return.
  3. Yes, the same thing happens when panning. It's an eXplorist, so I guess I'll call Magellan tomorrow ;-) Thanks.
  4. I did som tests and reducing the map detail to "lowest" didn't do any difference. Whats weird is that zooming out makes it work better. Zooming in to the closest will make the unit update the map, and distance to next, very seldom and the map will be very far behind and then jump a very long distance to keep up. It then falls behind again. I said that it works to walk but I discovered yesterday that that's not true either. The same thing happens when walking but not that extreme. Turning the detail map of and just using the Basemap will work perfectly. Smooth scrolling of the map all the time. The way that I would like it to work with my expensive detail map. Is my eXplorist 500 defective or is this the way it's suppose to work?
  5. I had the same problem with my topo maps and what i had found is that I had forgotten to format the SD card in the 500.The card contained all of my maps and the 500 read the info but boy was it slow.So I saved all my maps to my pc and formatted the card in the 500 and all is well! Good luck! Can you really do that? When I copied my map to my pc and then moved it to another SD card the eXplorist didn't allow the map to be used in the unit. It seems that the Topo map is locked to the specific card that it came with when buying it. Will not the same thing happen if I format the card in the 500 and copy the map back? I'm not sure that I dare trying.
  6. I have just bought a Topo map to my Explorist 500. Nice detail and great for geocaching. But when I try to use the map in the car the unit gets incredibly slow. The position on the map is always about 100m behind. The unit can't keep up the map rendering when moving faster than walking. The hourglass keep coming up also. Anyone else having this problem too or is there something wrong with my unit. Or maybe the SD card is slow. What do you think?
