  1. I think you mean reviewers asking COs to, " demonstrate how to solve the puzzle"? The guideline request for CO to offer info about their Mystery to "the approver" dates from November 2003. Nothing about it in the March 2003 guidelines.
  2. I've seen all manner of ratings for this on islands around Florida. Most locals own motor or paddle boats. . Most visitors don't and will pay to ride the ferry. The "in house" rating doesn't use the Clayjar language of from the, "most logical approach", but if it did, I'd say the T rating is 5. Because paddle, motorboat or jetski is how locals (most seekers) will access. I owned a cache in a river, rated it 5. Easy paddle from park ramps both upstream and downstream. But most did it as a long ugly swamp trek, as caches kept appearing in the swamps to the north. By the time they'd chased those cache south, they went to the river bank and waded in.
  3. Been a while since I read that Bonus cache article. Nice illustrations. Lost is the old article info, something about generally owning all of the clue caches. Also, the first sentence is a bit literal, ie, "find clues in other caches." Clues on other cache pages is fine. Clues on/from other archived pages is really good, given that they can't be altered. Favorite bonus I've found required using 4 specific sets of stage coords from a multi, and mapping the diagonal criss cross, corner to corner. Cache was at the intersection.
  4. The Clayjar rating system was worked on the early Geocaching.com forums. This site linked to it for ratings for many years, finally developed their own in house. http://www.clayjar.com/gcrs/ I believe it's no longer possible to access older forum threads, but perhaps Keystone can get to them or may recall some that conversation. Certainly they were USA oriented. The question of rating for flat water paddling or motor boat access caches has come up before. At this point, it may not be something that will change. If you don't own a boat, or the cache is placed such that rental is not likely, then that T 5 rating is useful in itself. Attributes have not always been part of the site. No attributes, no filtering on attributes. Any cache with a T 5 rating is worth reading first. If you think of ratings as INFORMATION, instead of as "points", it helps. A T5 of any flavor is easy, if you're fit enough and have the training or equipment.
  5. I placed a 1/5 virtual reward. At some point I learned that because the title starts with Q, it's on some wish lists - people working old alphabet all virt challenges. Never occurred to me.
  6. The badge does not require hiding. Hide is one of 4 options in section 8. I've given TB tags to scouts, as release a TB is another of the options. I'd rather see free TB to scout groups than access to PMO caches, as in the original post. https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/merit_badge_reqandres/geocaching.pdf
  7. Ordinarily, you could make that change. You just happened to hit the period when the site had a bug
  8. Aside, the fastest route to download, is return to your pocket query page https://www.geocaching.com/pocket/ and download direct from the Tab Pocket Queries Ready for Download. I expect a newly generated (submitted) query to appear there within a few minutes
  9. Have you selected a day of the week for it to run? Days to Generate: (Server Time: Sunday, 17 July 2022 11:12:04) Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat and if so, is that day of the week today? also, did you scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit.
  10. In your case, i would consider that maybe it was NOT taken by a cacher, but instead went missing - for whatever reason, the usual reasons do not involve theft by cachers - and the next seeker, rather than log a DNF, simply dropped a throwdown LINKY To your question, yes, an ammo can cache of mine was removed, and a large camo painted pretzel jar was left in its place. They transferred everything, original log and goodies. So they had the original in hand when they left the plastic awkward container; small mouth, big jar, shallow threaded lid. Just putting some green paint on this thing doesn't make a pig's ear into a silk purse. I didn't know until a NM was logged (soggy). I walked out and checked it. Wow, just wow. Someone thought it was okay to take my quality container that would last in good condition for at least 6 years, and leave a free jar that wasn't going to survive for a single summer.
  11. Maybe. See this article on Earthcaches that are now limited, among them "building stones". https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=51&pgid=293 Not to say it can't be done, but pay attention to what's required now.
  12. The oldest 5/5 I have is a 2002 Locationless. ;-) Hard to say about D on many of those, lots of research, some luck and potentially some travel to get to them. But the T on that on, ("....roadside attractions") a 1.5. Age no guarantee of good ratings. Looking at my pre 2008 finds, I sure see a lot of nonsense. Mostly in the form D ratings. Tough hike climb rated 4.5 (probably not really that tough) but that part's okay. Then the find rated 4. It's an ammo can. Once you get to GZ, find maybe a 2, tops. Now that there's an attribute for Challenge cache, I speculate that the way to restrict Fizzy caches in hopes of more honest ratings is to exclude any cache with that attribute. After that, it's kind of crap shoot. Some will be okay, and others not so much.
  13. The article niraD linked has a good table at the bottom distinguishing Multi from Mystery. For Multi, "the first stage", is a location that MUST be visited to gather info necessary to the next stage or final. This article covers GPS usage, often neglected by the "treasure map" model, LINKY and what the heck the gps use section of the guidelines as well LINKY Quote, "For at least part of the search, the cache must require finders to navigate with a GPS-enabled device to specific coordinates necessary to finding the cache" Reading the gps usage guideline and the article, you'll see a slight disconnect in language . The guideline says, "require finders to naviagate...to coords". But the article, and what Keystone wrote above, both suggest "option" to navigate to coords. Application of cache types has changed over time. I owned a Multi, and reading in these forums realized it should probably be a Mystery - it was bonus to several of my Traditionals. But listing ALL of those caches as Multi was common at the time. ;-) Trad, Trad, Trad, -> Bonus, all listed as Multi. There's still one of these in Florida LINKY
  14. I agree that ku's suggestion is the best suggestion, but just FYI, another route to removing from inventory is to visit the trackable page, and use the drop down menu on the right side to Mark Missing. You must "confirm" this. Moves it to an Unknown location, (which is true in fact) and out of inventory.
  15. Basic Members have full ownership rights on their owned hides. They can even remove PMO status, if they added it when they were paying for Premium Membership. They can use all owner logs, edit, page, delete spoiler photos, logs, etc. The personal note feature is PMO. You'll lose that if Premium Membership lapses. i assume you'll lose the ability to see any personal notes as well. Not sure. I doubt membership status relates to, "having issues on my page". A description of the issues you're having might get you some help. Is "my page' a cache page, or your profile page? some other page? You've been caching long enough that maybe you're using "old logging"? You can no longer update coords on a cache from that logging module. You'll need to change over to New Logging to do that. Just a thought. Update Coords limited to just under 161m (528ft), regardless.
  16. I have an archived multi-cache, 14 locations. The hints on that listing, "GZ info", won't fit in the new hints format. could put the info into a waypoint, hidden coords, public info. But then if it's encrypted, the decryption is manual, a pain, and if it's not encrypted, it may spoil for some who would rather hunt a while before decrypting. (If I had to fit 14 hints into that box, I might be able to, but it sure impinges on longer staged hides). I sometimes cache with 2 different players, both of whom hate to use hints. Me, I've decrypted on approach ;-) I suspect this relates to what some/most phone apps will handle.
  17. I've seen it too, but generally on refresh, page(s) load.
  18. Working with the CSP, I find a current limit of 237 characters and spaces. See text below, pasted into the hints field. Cuts off the 9th 27 space repeat at "u". I agree that I've seen longer hints in the past. I also agree with fizzymagic above, you should use either info in the waypoints field if applicable, or info in the body of the description, not long hints. abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijklmnopqqrstu
  19. View your own public profile https://www.geocaching.com/p/?u=sodapop11 on that page click Geocaches https://www.geocaching.com/p/default.aspx?u=sodapop11&tab=geocaches#profilepanel and from there click Geocaches Found https://www.geocaching.com/play/results/?sa=1&fb=sodapop11&asc=false&sort=founddate list is complete, and you can click the link of any archived to gather info from the page or click the "download gpx" link in the pane below the coords, this will come complete, if you have way to use it. Basic Members cannot see OTHER users finds in Search, but they can see their own
  20. Can you bookmark them? this assume that you a have sense of a cache group. Once bookmarked, you can "create pocket query" from your lists hub. that link goes to New PQ page. Create the query name, do not set a day for it to run, submit. Go back to the PQ main page, click "map" link. That's to the left of the PQ name. Map from PQ page is the only way I know of to get archived to show on a map from the site. Mapping from the bookmark will give an error message.
  21. There's a Help Center article on this https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=143&pgid=949 If you qualify, and it seems you do, you can request another credit on the opt-in page linked from that article. I don't know if this will necessarily have a positive result, but surely worth trying.
  22. The opted-out-user has only requested their name be anonymous on a 3rd party app. If they want to be anonymous on the website, they can not hide. They've got some privacy options on public profile, but anonymous hider is not one of them.
  23. I used my virtual as motivation to go places I'd intended to, but hadn't made the effort. Rather enjoyable. I chased Champion trees of Florida for a while. Enjoyed all that I visited, but each presented issues. (Quite near my home is the state's Champion palmetto (Serenoa repens). Seemed appropriate. Sadly, a truly ugly walk. Just off a US Interstate exchange, pull off on a county road, walk through a huge sand pit, ugly with illegal dumping, ATV and 4 wheeler use, full sun, deep sand, road noise. 300ft walk through woods, monster towering saw palmetto - ancient). Ultimately, it took me the full year to find a place, and get the necessary permit back, but I'm happy with it.
  24. As a Basic Member, RuideAlmeida's link will work. You can get to it from your dashboard https://www.geocaching.com/account/dashboard on the left side, under Geocaches click logs, this page limits to 30 days https://www.geocaching.com/my/geocaches.aspx at the top of that page click All Logs: https://www.geocaching.com/my/logs.aspx?s=1 and from there click log type https://www.geocaching.com/my/logs.aspx?s=1&lt=3 And now you can add those caches to Watch list. If one is shown with title in Red Strike through, it's archived, no point in watching it. Try to remember to remove them from Watch as you find them.
  25. Some, perhaps many of those caches have a checker. It's just not the in-house checker. Mystery sometimes have a checker in the form of a "check sum". Search, which I used to generate the numbers above, can only be used to ask for Mystery w/the "Geocaching.com solution checker" attribute. There is no attribute for "other checker'.
