  1. Are you still in Korea? Realizing that for many it's a one year tour, and it's been over a year since your last post! 1/2 of our caching family is stationed at Osan, I'm sure he'd love to have someone who shares the obsession to meet up with to get some
  2. We use the PMO caches as a way to maybe help assist geocaching and Groundspeak...we pay for our membership for some of it's conveniences as well as to support our favorite hobby and the people who support it.
  3. Alright, been using GC.com for a few years now while I lived in Japan and never really had a need to do a broad search. I am trying to find a way to pull up all posted MegaEvents without searching each country and/or US State. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advanced and happy holidays, EarthQuake5683
  4. I'm assuming since your in Utah, that we must have logged one or more of your caches while in SLC for Geocoinfest; I assure you that if we logged any of your caches our name was signed on any log book in said cache, we also logged Team Cacheaholic as we were part of that team and there. The Portugal cache mentioned above is one that we worked on for quite a while, the cacher who started the idea worked hard with reviewers to make sure that we followed the rules. Below is part of the cache listing ... VERY IMPORTANT ALL LOGS AND NOTES MUST BE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. Geocaching rules says that only the one that finds and signs the log book can register the found it. The others must only write notes. ...as you can see it wasn't intended for everyone to log every cache
  5. ATTENTION ALL We are Earthquake 5683 and the ‘Nevada brother’ as referred to above. We are husband and wife who log under our name or as EQ5683 for short. Up until today we were members of Team Cacheaholic, but thanks to a fellow cacher who got word of this and knows how we really do play the game notifying us of the recent happenings we have contacted the person who logs and told them not to log ours any longer. The Team was created by a few avid cachers stationed in Okinawa, Japan; membership was meant to be for those like us who rush out at 0300 for a FTF or who place a cache and waited for your fellow cachers to show up and BS for a bit because you haven't been able to catch up lately. We are/were a close group that spent a lot of time together; since we are military we tend to get stationed or temporarily sent all over the world and thought it would be nice to see collectively where we all go. It was not all about the numbers or getting all kinds of people to join or to 'win' prizes. I don't know if other members of the team were aware of current turn of events or not, and from this point on we will no longer be logging caches as TCAH. We do NOT phantom or armchair log in fact we despise it as much as all of you do. We delete people’s logs who don’t find our caches and I would expect you all to do the same to ours.
  6. Download GSAK, then get a pocket query...Load the PQ into GSAK and export as text or HTML into a MS Word document, then save as a .doc.... Hope this helps.!
  7. Mine still works as well, I was just informed of this issue from a fellow cacher who said it was gone, I'm guessing ours still works because we saved it in google?
  8. Slapshot, There aren't any "groups" per say, just a bunch of us that get together every now and again and cache. Sometimes late night, weekends, etc... I have used the 76CSx, 60CSx, Colorado and Oregon. The 60CSx and Oregon are my favorites so far. We also have a local forum cacheoki dot com. If you have any questions, the local cachers seem to get on the other forums more often. EQ
  9. I'm not getting mine anymore...been happening for over a week...half the time we don't get our PQ's either. Is something going on???
  10. We live on a small island as a result we have limited number of caches available, and also a smaller number of cachers than in most places I would assume. Local term for FTF hogs, are cacheheads....we've been accused a few times but laugh and go on. Part of this game is that everyone plays it different, I don't always agree with what they do or the way they do it....which means I don't have to care what they think of me for rushing to be FTF! However, we do have cachers who put out new caches and say in order to log FTF you have to be a newb, or have no FTF's...what makes me laugh is those ones sit there for a week or more (which is almost unheard of here) with out being even attempted...so my thought is post your cache and let the rest of race!
  11. Hey all, I'm coming into Korat for about 3 weeks and would like to get some of the geocaches around the area. I noticed there aren't any for about 50 miles but still, all the same, would like to log a few geocaches. If I host an event in the Korat area, will anyone make the travels??? ( I notice some of the Thailand cachers are also Thailand Riders....a good reason for a ride!) Hit me back here, or directly at my email joe@romerosfamily dot com if you are interested. I will be intown from about Mar 3rd to Mar 25th. Joe
  12. This is true with an unmodified ipod touch. There are kits out there to add gps to them. Just google it. Joe
  13. I am having the same problem. About a month or two ago my pocket queries stopped running. I checked the pocket query page and it said they hadn't ran in a few days. I just deleted it and created a new one. Problem with doing this is I have wrote a few custom gsak scripts and the pq number changes. Then I have to go in and change the scripts again. I have tried to go in and deselecting the days, then waiting 24 hours and selecting them again, but that doesn't work. I have found no work around. Is this an issue that is being addressed? Joe
  14. I would suggest downloading GSAK and using either the HTML files or CacheMate.
  15. I'm heading off to Korat area in March or April. I can't seem to find any caches in that area. Would this be an accurate statement? I would like to grab a few geocaches while I am there.
  16. We still haven't gotten our August coin...let alone Sept
  17. I went through to post a new cache and wanted to "spice" it up and change the font size, type and color. I did up the page in MS Frontpage and copied the script to the cache description area and it came out all jacked up. Can I just click the HTML tag box and use the <font=> tag? Any help or examples would be helpful. Also, with the color do I have to use FFF01Fx type or can I use the number standards? Thanks, Joe
  18. Way to go! About a month ago a fellow cacher placed 7 caches and had them appear on line at exactly the same time. Kinda lucky for us being stationed overseas we had had some incidents with fellow military personell and had been placed on 'lockdown' from like 9 at night till 5 am. So we headed out at 0500 and got 5 of them as a FTF; we were so excited and came home to log only to notice that three more had just posted So off we went again...and got one more so our top FTF in a day was 6!
  19. Hey everyone, wanted to say thanks for the help and the people that emailed me with contacts there in AK. I can't wait to get there and get some stateside caches done. With a limited number of caches here in Okianwa you don't want to knock them all out with a year left and have no more caches to do so this will be something new. I'm excited. Plus I get to move some GC/TB's stateside to help them with there missions. See ya in the cachin world! Joe
  20. Because - my bike is a KTM dirt bike and the sockets eventually would come loose.....thus, I choose to hard wire directly to the battery. So, only a blown fuse or broken wire would shut down the gpsr. Rider Build yourself a small power supply. Plenty of info on the net, but you really dont need much. A small box to mount it in, a voltage regulator and a small cap.
  21. USB power is 5vdc and that is what the cig lighter adapter does. Lower the voltage down. From there you can spice on a usb cable and be good to go. Here in Japan they sell cellphone chargers that have the female usb port on them. I bought one today to find out that it put it into the mass storage mode. Got home, downloaded the new firmware/software update, put it into "garmin spanner" mode and everything worked fine. This solves the problem for my wife having a charger for her 300 but they dont sell that phone charger for mine. I have an old cellphone charger that I will mod to work with the mini-b plug. Before I start hearing all the...just fork out the 28 bucks, blah blah blah, I am an electronics tech in the USAF. I can take voltage readings and know that my old cellphone charger is 5.05vdc and can micro solder. Thanks for the concern though. Hope this helps anyone with any questions. Joe
  22. Hello, I will be going to Elmendorf in May and staying at the contingency barracks. I was wondering if someone had an address or cords to the barracks themselves that they can send to me. I will more than likely be on-foot so I need to plan out some caches. Thanks Earthquake5683
  23. If you use GSAK, they have a macro so you can send the descriptions, logs and hints to the ipod. Takes me less than 1 minute to complete. Go into GSAK press CTRL-M, then click ONLINE MACRO INDEX. search for IPOD NOTES and you will get the macro. It self installs (less than 100k). Then load your gpx, click ctrl-m and click the IPOD NOTES macro. done.
  24. Looking for an option that my 76CSX has. When I load my PQ GPX file to the 76CSX and click FIND->GEOCACHE it displays only the geocaches not found. If I press menu, show found, it does just that. Now, when I load a GPX into the Colorado all caches (regardless of FOUND/NOT FOUND icons) show up as NOT FOUND. If I click the left button then click SHOW FOUND, it does not work. Is there anyway for me to load a GPX and the caches that have opened cache icons to load as FOUND? Not the biggest issue or concern, something I could get used to dealing with. But hey, if you can get something to work the way you want it to, why deal with not having it. Thanks in advance, Joe Okinawa Geocacher http://www.cacheoki.com
  25. There is a new site dedicated to Okinawa. Check it out at http://www.cacheoki.com There is a link for the forums in the bottom right hand side. Earthquake5683
