  1. I have a son, 14, and a daughter, 13. They are both very interested in Geocaching. Unfortunately, they don't get along well at this age. On our first day of caching they had a HUGE fight over a flat penny that we found in a micro-cache.

That's when I decided to take them one at a time, which works out well because my son is willing to do longer, more difficult hikes and doesn't mind rain. While my daughter prefers finding many easy ones in one day.

This way they both get "just me and Mom" time.

  2. I had to send my Sport Trak Pro off to Tulsa last week. I sent it on the 6th and paid the extra .45 cents to track it. It arrived in Tulsa on Friday the 9th. I called Thales support on Tue. and the had shipped it out on Monday. They gave me the UPS tracking number, so I've been checking it often. It was last seen in Commerce City, CO., I should get it back on Friday. I'm looking forward to finding goodies with it! icon_biggrin.gif

BTW I had dropped it and broke the face. I sent them a check with it for about $72.00.

  3. I found a cache in a park near my town a couple of weeks ago and the container was about a quarter full of water. The log was in a zip-lock but was moist and full. I drained it the best I could and tried to cover it up better.

When I logged it in when I got home I noticed that the last few people that found it mentioned that it needed maintenance. One log was as far back as last November!

So I took a look at the profile of the Dude/Dudette that hid it and discovered that this user has more hidden than found! AND most of the "Finds" are ones they hid!

Maybe they are still searching for some of the ones they hid? They even have a "Virtual" in Neveda, but the rest are all in WA State. There is one up in the San Juans, one down by The Dalles, and some in the Sound area. Now I thought there was a rule about placing a cache while on vacation?

This really ticks me off! I think this person should not be allowed to buy Tupperware ever again! Ban him/her from the surplus stores!!

Sheesh...give someone a GPSr and a pack of Altiods and they lose their mind!!

  4. I use an Olympus Camedia C-3030, and to be honest, I'm not very happy with the quality of pictures I get with it. I paid about $750 for it a couple of years ago.

I wish I would have shopped around a bit more.

  5. Cost is relative.......

Reletively speaking......DO NOT DROP YOUR GPSr!!!

I had to send mine off a couple of days ago and it was like sending off my right arm!

The house seems a bit empty with it gone...(sigh) where is it now?....how is it doing? Are they feeding it well?

Spectre Vic told me to buy a protective case but did I listen?

    $71.46 lesson learned!

  6. I always take my camera too.

You just never know when someone will slip or trip over a log! Those pics are the best!

I say, "Are you all right? Good. Now don't move until I get a picture!!"

    AHHH.....the memories! icon_biggrin.gif

That's IT!!! We're going to Fist City, and I'm driving!

  7. I dropped my Magellan Sport Trak Pro today while fumbling for it in my pack. It did a face plant on the rocky trail. Now it sports a fine star shaped blemish that covers 1/3 of the viewing surface. It works fine, but I doubt it's water-proof now.

Will I have to send it out for repair, or can I just order a new face plate and install it myself?

I e-mailed Magellan but have not heard from them yet. I know you guys are much faster than them!

  8. But I found a cache last week-end that was a thick, clear glass jar. It had one of those rubber seal lid that had a metal hasp on it. The contents were clean and dry and easy to see. It was about the size of an industrial size mayo jar.

It was easier to open than a rusty ammo can.

I rank it as my fav cache can! icon_smile.gif

  9. I say label it an "ADULT" site, so no one brings unsuspecting kiddies along for the hunt. Then fill the cache with things that are appropriate for the area.......like condoms,AIDs brochures and maybe a purple Tele-Tubbie or two icon_biggrin.gif

Well there's my two cents worth!

  10. Now I know I'm on the right track!

Sorry Mr. Warrior, I don't think I'd like to move to Texas. Just think..What would the rain gear manufacturers do if everyone lived in a dry climate? It's plenty pretty enough here, thanx icon_wink.gif

And to Mr Kewaneh, I'm jealous! icon_wink.gif You have the skills! I have a neighbor that is a surveyor and his wife wispers in our next-door neighbors ear about our property line! icon_eek.gif Oh well, all is fair in war and picket fences.

Thank you all for the responses.

  11. This is a good discussion.

I remember my very first find like it was last week (it was! icon_smile.gif ) In that cache there was a moldy little purse that none of us wanted to touch. Being new, I just left it. Now I think I'll go back with rubber gloves and get that puppy! Maybe I'll send it to one of those Geo-Scientists who studies geo-fungus and how it is spread.

Unless someone out there wants it?

Swimmers would look pretty funny without that water.
