How many have you recruited
Og's outfit replied to TeamBoonieHat's topic in General geocaching topics
I initially told my sisters who live many states away. One of them took the bait and went out and bought the next step up Magellan that I have, (she always has to show me up! .) She rushed out and found 5, count 'em 5, caches and has lost interest. She didn't hide any so i figure there's no harm done. I have told a few close friends that seem very interested but as of yet they have not registered. I think my greatest addition to the sport is showing it to my young teen children and a few of their friends. I just love giving my GPSr to a 14 yr. old and showing him what to do and standing back to hear the word....."COOL!!" I know they're hooked! They'll be the cachers of the future! I just came up with a new signature item. My daughter and I worked on them for about 3 hours this afternoon. I know it's not a cool as some of the professionally printed or embossed item others have come up with, but we think they are neat-O. They are all slightly different and all have our team name and a number on the back. I got the idea after finding a "TOO COOL" signature coin the other day. I hope people like them. Does it have a tag with a number on it? If it does click on this. (<---the word "this"), and learn how to log your find. OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?)

There are a ton of falls caches in Washington state. They are my favorite! I found one that's a bit like the one you found in that we never in a million years would have known of its existance if it weren't for Geocaching. It was this one. There was no trail to this cache and there were many falls to enjoy on the way up. OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?)

The Perfectly Politically Correct Cache II
Og's outfit replied to Renegade Knight's topic in General geocaching topics
When they place their cache they should avoid hiding it in a bush, (so they don't offend the democrats. ) ((Get your mind out of the gutter!)) They should also avoid placing it in grass or weeds. This might upset people with glaucoma. OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?) -
I just saw the coolest thing
Og's outfit replied to jeepjerryp7m8's topic in General geocaching topics
We have seen many deer while out galavanting. I've never seen a fawn bedded down before. That must have been an awesome thing to see! Last week while in eastern Washington we came accross a young doe laying in what little shade there was. She didn't seem too upset to see us. We were only about 30' from her! I was able to snap a picture. It was a very cool encounter! OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?) -
Think twice about reaching under that log!

Yeesh! Those pictures are quite grotesque! What was that guy thinking? Taking the time to document the loss of his thumb with a photo-journal, without taking the time to see a doctor? I doubt he'll be doing any hitch-hiking anytime soon! I happen to like spiders, not on my person of course. We let the wolf spiders hang out in the house, they usually are around the house more in the fall. I admit it is a bit eye-opening when you spot one on the ceiling when you're in the shower. I'm no spider expert, but I assumed the wolf spider didn't make webs for food. I thought they sculked around hunting for food? I've never seen a poisonous spider, although I was bitten by something about a month ago while pressure washing my patio. At first it looked like a small scratch on the side of my calf and it itched a little, within a few hours it was a big red mound about the size of a coaster you put your drinks on. It never hurt or stung so I just decided to watch it. I'm still watching it. It shrunk down and became a scab that has hung around for some time now. I'm pretty sure it must have been a Hobo spider. Oh well, no real harm done and it's not like I could have prevented it. OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?) -
Okay here goes...... A guy walks into a bar... and says, "Ow! That hurt!" or do you prefer......... Two peanuts were walking down the street,....... one was assaulted. (a salted.) Did I hear a snicker? OG Prophetically Challenged (or is that Pathetically?)

How do you approach someone for permission?
Og's outfit replied to NightThree's topic in General geocaching topics
I've wondered the same thing. Does the disclaimer on the actual cache page protect the land owner? Does that depend on the state you're in? Can you, the cache placer be held liable if a sue-happy cacher gets hurt on private property? Sheesh, I should have went to law school! OG Prophetically Challenged -
I go out alone through the week if the mood hits me. I usually make one of my children go with me on the week-ends. My husband has gone a few week-ends, but I try to choose those hikes accordingingly as he has rheumatoid arthritis and he needs to "build up" for the longer hikes. I'm in no hurry to find every cache in my 100 mile radius. Lately I have been eyeing some hide sites, (I haven't hidden one yet). As for your "not found", may I suggest that you took the wrong trail? There may just be another way up that hill? I'm saying this from experience. I once gave up after climbing up a thorny hill, but the second try I realized that there was a trail on the other side of the hill. Good luck and happy caching! OG Prophetically Challenged

Of course the picture doesn't show where to put your trading goodies and his GPSr must be in his left hand. OG Prophetically Challenged

Remember loading your pack is as important as how you wear it. I'm going to try and add a picture (my first time) I hope this works. OG Prophetically Challenged

I'm glad you had such success! I had a problem with my Magellan a couple of months ago and e-mailed them for support......I still have not received a response! I did call their support line and found them to be friendly and helpfull. Thales just needs to check their e-mail support or remove the option from their website. OG Prophetically Challenged

Excellent comment on a common problem. It seems that forum users are not at fault. We all trade up......RIGHT!? Maybe we should make a "RULE" that all new users have to read threads such as this one. (I'm kidding) I do think that reading the forums has helped me to be a better cache trader. And I promise to remove all gross or moldy contents in the future, even if I can't replace the number of items I trashed. WOW it sounds like the start of a Geocache Motto, like the Boy Scout motto:...... Be prepared to make a cache enjoyably for the next cacher after you. OG Prophetically Challenged -
Logging on th internet should be required!
Og's outfit replied to Team Saprod's topic in How do I...?
I too share your frustration. I understand that sometimes it takes a while for some people to log what they have found. I know that there are some that are on vacation and that it will take maybe a week or two to log a TBs' activity. But it is VERY annoying to have a TB being held hostage at the whim of a local. I would rather have a TB of mine sit for months in a cache, than have it sit in the hands of a on-again off-again cacher. OG Prophetically Challenged -
Bear Spray stops charging Grizzly
Og's outfit replied to Bilder's topic in General geocaching topics
quote: I've been backpacking and hiking for 20 years and I've never had a problem with bears, ever. Pepper spray is for the uneducated hiker. I know other hikers who have been hiking over 50 years and have never needed it and never been attacked. Counterassault wasn't even invented until 1997 I think. The article was from Alaska, to my knowledge there aren't any grizzleys in Ohio. What is the bear population in Ohio anyway? I think that the likelyhood of running into a bear should greatly enhance the likelyhood of carrying some sort of protection. Everyone should should do what they think is necessary.
