  1. Solution to locked maps: use Openstreetmap instead. It's a collaborative mapping project. Think of it like Wikipedia for maps. Currently the completeness of it varies quite a lot depending on where you are, but some areas have quite good coverage (and if your area doesn't, go out and map it! ) The data is free so many people have converted it to the garmin .img format. Many of the maps are routable too! The OSM project is growing at an exponential rate - I fully expect that it will become THE mapping solution of the future. With regard to linux - yes I use Ubuntu Linux. I recently purchased a Garmin Colorado and am very disappointed to discover that the Garmin Communicator plug-in doesn't work in linux. Apparently cross-platform is just Windows and Mac Conceptually (to me) it would seem fairly easy to transfer the GPX file from Firefox to the Colorado USB mass storage device... and if they open-sourced their code then developers could take it to other OSes and beyond. (note that I am not a GC premium member though.)
  2. Take this cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...60-d85a53cc07db Lat/long S 31° 07.903 E 138° 32.361 UTM: 54J E 265381 N 6553194 Shouldn't that be UTM: 54J E 265381 S 6553194? If you click "Other conversions..." it gives the completely different N -3446805 which makes no sense at all to me - I thought UTM had false somethings to avoid negative numbers???
  3. How about making it so everyone can edit attributes on caches? This would allow many more useful attributes to be added. At the moment the only attribute anyone can add is "needs maintenance" but with this, everyone would be able to add that the cache is friendly to bicycles, or that a number of thorny bushes have now grown around the cache area. Many cache hiders don't own bicycles, so don't think about how hard it might be to get up that flight of stairs, or the hider doesn't have kids, so they may not know what makes a cache "kid friendly" or not. Yes, vandalism is possible, but then vandalism is possible on Wikipedia and they have ways of dealing with it. Perhaps you might have to have found 10 caches to be able to edit attributes. I think geocachers are a bit more responsible than your average internet user too. What does everyone else think?
  4. Could the check as to whether you're accidentally posting a find date in the future please key off the user's timezone selected in their user profile? I can't log my finds right now for November 3rd. Yes it is 4:30am. Yes I was out caching until about 3am. I live in Adelaide - GMT+10:30 (in summer.) I currently get "Date Error" "You can't post a find date in the future."
  5. Why not just remove the whole line until the feature is implemented then? <b>Hidden:</b> 0
