  1. Pricey.. I wish it came on CD/DVD so I could load it into Mapsource.
  2. Really what should happen is the State should take ownership of Groundspeak, then the legislature can pass cache hide LAWS that can then be enforced by bureaucrats. Then caching courts can be established settle disputes amoung cachers, reviewers, moderators, cavers, etc. It will be utopian.....
  3. Wow... Wow.... Wow... Hiding caches is getting harder to do. Most of these agencies are not inclined to even respond to email inquiries. I just found a guardrail cache yesterday.
  4. Either GCX5NT or GC6982
  5. I guess you just missed the satire of it....

  7. Just bought some Lock N Locks at the Wallyworld in Lacey.
  8. I did something fun lastnight and clicked on my profile for all the travel bugs I ever came into contact with over the last year. It was fun to review some of their journeys since I had last seen them.... some went amazing distances, others are caught in the "icon tart jetstream", and yet a couple have traveled just around the neighborhood. Do you have particular TB's that have taken amazing journeys or met interesting cachers?
  9. I agree as long as YOU are the coin's owner. However, placing coins you picked up that belong to other cachers, it is the coin owner's business. I've had my coins show up in other cacher's unpublished caches.... much to my dislike.
  10. 60 Day Trial of Mappoint 2006 download here: http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint/products/2006/trial.mspx Mappoint 2009 will be released on July 21st this year: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-MapPoint-2009/dp/B0017W8BQU
  11. Well thats only part of the it too. Coins and TBs getting sucked into the Icon Tart jet stream where they are holding 6-60 of theses at a time. This pretty much dries up many of the caches in the area leaving nothing for other cachers to disccover and move according to the TB/Coin goals because they are being held captive in private trading post and being passed among a select group reducing the surface area of exposure to other cachers. Collectively, 5 cachers in the area are holding somewhere around 100+ trackables at any given time if you read their logs. If someone logs one of your trackables and the owner removes the logs, does it remove the icon from the cachers profile? Much like a "found' log on a cache?
  12. I wouldn't sweat it for about a 1.5 weeks. Usually people travel home, unpack, settle back into routine, then start logging caches and coins. If someone doesn't log your coin within 2 weeks, then I'd start to worry. Some events are better organized than others and track who gets what. At which point I'd try contacting the coin holder and the event organizer to see who may have your coin or who knows.
  13. I've been sitting on this feeling for sometime and have been pretty quiet about it, I just reached my tipping point and needed to vent. Other local cachers have expressed some unhappiness with the situation. I usually, plan my caching day and if I know I am visiting a cache with a TB/coin I try to know what the 'mission' is before I take it. I only take it if I can help it, otherwise I record the tracking # for discovery as reassurance for the owner that their tb is still there. I hope the next cacher can help it when I could not. This is how these forums taught me to handle and treat tbs & coins; so I do my darndest to play by what cachers generally expect.
  14. Some coins I will probably release in the future (maybe fall) no goal / release location determined yet. and a special two for travel package of a coin set that I will release to travel together This set I will release here: GCRM0Y
  15. You've got two missions for your coins, which is great and keeps your coin moving the way you want. I don't mind if I have coins sit for months in an off beaten cache that gets 1 visitor a year. I've got several coins with that particular goal in mind!!!! However, what I've noticed is that I've had several coins get sucked into the Icon Tart Jet stream where coins get picked up and moved by the same 3 Tarts to "private trading posts (see... GC14RDY)". This is where they get stuck for a month or two doing nothing and in accessible to other cachers....

    Icon Tarts

I've released several coins into the wild, I've tried to come up with some unique goals for these coins and have gone to great lengths to print/laminate and include these goals with the coins. I don't mutilate/deface the coins either. But I am done releasing coins for awhile. I want to share these beautiful coins and allow other cachers to add an icon to their profile. All of this is fine with me. However when cachers do the exact opposite of what the coin asks such taking them out of the country when it's goal is to visit all 50 U.S. States. The one that has set me over the edge is that on all of my coins ask the cachers do not keep the coin and NOT to put them in Event Caches. One of my coins just got dumped into the Geowoodstock event cache.... Much of this I think is due to what I like to call Tarting for icons. You know you see those cachers who have a 'route' and visit the same TB Hotels over and over taking and trading coins all the time just to collect icons for their profile. It doesn't matter what the owner's goals are, they just keep taking and moving them regardless of the goal. So to the Icon Tarts, no more coins for you!
  17. There used to be a little applet that a person could install on their computer that would work with a pocket query on the website that would check for new caches published in your area. Does anyone know what that software is called or the URL for it? Nevermind I finally found it!!!
  18. Saw this was going through the Yakima Canyon, I thought I'd advise everyone to be extra careful. Having grown up in this area, I've had several friends die in auto accidents in this canyon over the years.
  19. What you need is a Roto Hammer and a two part concrete epoxy. Drill 1" into the concrete using a 5/8" drill bit to place Bison tube just deep enough to leave the cap sticking out. Glue in place. All that is needed by finders is to unscrew the cap to retrieve the log, sign, and return log/cap.
  20. There is no need to go get permission from the Park care taker.... the general public owns the park NOT the City. When you go to most any park they have signs telling you during what hours you can be there, keep dogs on leashes, no glass, no alcohol, pickup your dog crap, etc. If "Geocaching" is not one of the explictly banned activities then it is allowed. This society's entire legal system is based upon Negative law not Positive law. (i.e. It's allowed until a specific law is passed to regulate it or ban it.) I know a radical concept in free society where you are not treated as a child and don't need permission for everything you do. (Words to associate.. Freedom, Liberty.) If there is no specific posted or publicly published rule and there are already caches in the park, then they haven't been problem which raised the interest of park care takers to take action upon the unregulated activity. So place you caches being mindful of the park rules, environment, and be smart about it. Inform your cache seekers about possible sensitive areas, dangers, and everything should be fine.
  21. I merely suggested spring because it's already the end of January, by the time a person coordinates with park staff and gets the CITO published and allow for ample time for the event to be advertised, and people coordinate their schedules. That puts the event into March or early April. It just seems a reasonable time frame to try to get one in Discovery Park.
  22. I've followed this thread very carefully, but have remained quiet. For the most part I've agreed with everyone's positions and posts regarding this issue. Maybe one way to demonstrate the "Benefits" is to schedule CITO event in the mid-spring and get volunteers to help with a designated park project that is in the works. Maybe work it out so that there is an annual CITO, I'm fairly certain that with the size of the Seattle Metro area, it shouldn't be difficult to get 20 - 30 volunteers to come out for a day. Heck I'd probably come for the weekend since I've never cached in that area before. Since it appears the park allows weddings and other events, it would seem logical since there is no hiding of caches during a CITO... the Land Manager shouldn't have any objections. I really enjoyed the CITO at Mt. Rainier and while National Parks don't allow caches, I believe that event really put a positive spotlight on Geocachers and Geocaching. If the right relationship is developed between the Land Manager and coordinates with WSGA, annual CITO's could happen when certain projects at the land managers discretion need the helping hands of Volunteers. Similar to what the SCA is for National Parks.
  23. I've had positive responses to these two History caches of mine "Wooden Money" "Battle of Sharpsburg" Personally, I enjoy the history flavor when a cache owner includes that information. The one caveat is that the information should be concise. A cache page is intended to describe a cache not teach history. I find it difficult (and annoying) being out in the field and trying to read long pages of a cache description on my PDA. I tend to prefer source documents for my history education. Difranco
  24. Aside from the cache owner's attitude ... This cache is just an offset cache and appears to have been listed before offset caches were considered a Multi-Caches thus grandfathered in the traditional category. You need to read cache descriptions, print them to go, or use the PDA in order to find a lot of caches. This type is no different. Enjoy the hunt.
