  1. I've been toying with the idea of doing California. I think it would be its own mapset, given how big the state is. Give me a couple months and check back. Mark
  2. Thanks! I'd appreciate any feedback you might have should you get the chance to use it in the field. Mark (GoNorthWest)
  3. Many of you are familiar with Moun10Bike's Northwest Trails mapset for Garmin GPS receivers. Well, I'm proud to say that a version for the southwest United States is now also available! Working with Moun10Bike, I have been able to put together data for Arizona and New Mexico, with plans to expand to Nevada and Utah. My first alpha version of the mapset is available for download (Windows and Mac) and testing. You can find it at: http://www.outdoor-resources.com/SW_Trails/ This is a community-driven product, so I would very much appreciate feedback and any data you would like to contribute. Thanks! 5. Glad you like the book...I honestly hope you never have to use it! Stay safe!
  6. All books have been given away. Thanks for the interest!
  7. All books have been given away! Thanks for all your interest!
  8. Such an awesome response from everybody! Only about 50 left...I had no idea they'd go so fast!
  9. I'm glad that these books are finally finding good homes! They've been stuck in my garage for far too long!
  10. [This is also posted in the GPS Garage Sale section...but I wanted to get more exposure for this offer] Hi, I'm a geocacher who used to be (and still sorta is) a rock climber who also used to be a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician. Back in 1995 I wrote a first aid book geared towards rocks climbers, but in all honesty, more for everybody who plays outdoors. The book is well illustrated, got good reviews from my friends and family ( smile.gif ), and, most importantly, is printer on waterproof, tear resistant paper! This book would be a great companion on any geocaching trip. A few years ago when my publisher went out of business, I bought up the remaining inventory of books. I was able to give away quite a few of them to organizations like search and rescue and some Boy Scout troops. As I was going through my garage the other day, I came across another box of about 40 books. I want to give those away as well. If you are interested in getting a free copy of this book for yourself or your organization, head over to http://www.outdoor-resources.com/cfa.html and check out the details. The only "string" attached to this giveaway is that I'd like a donation of about $3.00 to cover shipping (feel free to give a bit extra...the actual cost varies a bit by number of books and where they go). The book has a cover price of $29.95, so this seems more than fair to me. If you really, really want a copy of the book, but cannot afford it, contact me and we can work something out. If you want to donate more to help cover other people, that's cool as well...some people have already done that. If you have any questions, post them here, or contact me on Twitter (GoNorthWest). I'm hoping to give away all the books I have left, so please take a look at the web site : http://www.outdoor-resources.com/cfa.html Thanks! GoNorthWest (Mark)
  11. I just got your donation...thanks! I'll have the books in the mail tomorrow. Spread the word...I figured out today I have about 75 left!

  13. I've done both #1 and #3, but wanted to post here to get a bit more exposure. Hopefully that's OK. What I'm looking for is recommendations for those who have cached the area...something you can't get from running a pocket query, unfortunately. With limited time, I want to hit the classics. Thanks!
  14. I'll be in Grapevine, TX next week for a conference. Staying at the Gaylord Hotel near DFW. I'll have a few hours for some caching, and would like to see some local favorites. Given the limited time I have, I'd like to avoid micros or multis, but would entertain any that are truly worthy. Please let me know some classic, memorable caches in the area (let's say 10 mile radius) that I can check out! Thanks! Mark (GoNorthWest)

  16. Exactly what I did. Good enough...I think this issue is resolved. Thanks!
  17. I did look into this once, but if I remember correctly, it's particular to a certain type of phone. Meaning, it won't work on my Blackjack. But, it seems pretty cool!
  18. I didn't know there was a WAP interface...guess I don't read the forums close enough (or often enough)! I just gave it a try, and it's very cool. It's now bookmarked on my Samsung Blackjack. Thanks for the pointer!
  19. I was sitting in a park today, where I know there are at least two caches hidden, and I fired up my GPSr to go on the hunt. I thought I had downloaded the waypoints, but I was wrong...and very disappointed. My cell phone has data capability with IE, but having been to gc.com on my cell phone, I knew I'd get nowhere with that approach. I started thinking...how cool would it be if I could send an SMS (text) message to gc.com with a particular query, and get back a listing of local caches! It might look something like this: loc : N47 45.895, W122 12.989 get : caches 1m This would send my current location, which I can get from my GPSr (and which is made up above), and request all caches within 1 mile. What I would get back is either the coordinates of the nearest caches, or perhaps a gpx file sent to my email account where I could download it. Not sure of the mechanics, but it would be cool!
  20. The other person has logged their find. I just wanted to ensure that I wasn't going to screw up the ability for them to claim a first to find via downloading their stats. Appreciate the advice!
  21. I was recently the second person to find a new cache, but I logged my find before the first to find person. When that person downloads their statistics into one of the many applications that print out neat summaries of their finds, will they not get credit for a FTF because I was the first to log? If that's the case, is there a way I can delete my log entry and move theirs to the front? I certainly don't want to get credit for something I didn't do. Thanks! Mark
  22. It would be a cool feature to have, in addition to D/T indicated in the list of new caches, the distances from my home location to that caches. As it stands now, I have to open up each cache to find out how far and in what direction it's away from my location. Would save me time to know at a glance which are close to me! Thanks, Mark
