  1. 2008 Waymarking Year in Review At the end of 2008 we have seen some impressive growth in the number of active listings on the Waymarking site. Waymarking represents almost 18% of all active listings across all three Groundspeak games. We have passed 150,000 listings and have well over 800 unique categories to choose from. The Community Server forum software was restored to proper functionality as well. 2009 promises to be a big year for Waymarking with an anticipated new search engine, continued growth and enjoyment for everyone. Keep those cameras clicking! Posted on 12/28/2008 7:05:00 AM by Checkmark -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder what the number of "active listings" Waymarking is in 2014??
  2. I understand that you may not enjoy Waymarking, but is that a reason to ignore those of us that do? When I first started doing Waymarking it was fun and the site worked great. Now I have greatly cut back on my Waymarking, other have dropped out entirely. ------------------------------------ "If you're going to do something, make it right and make it as good as you can. Don't waste anybody's time, especially your own."
  3. For some reason I thought that there were Waymarking features that you had to be a premium member to use (I'll have to check that, I've been a premium member since 2007). A Waymarking premium member is a premium member of all of the Groundspeak sites, not simply Waymarking, so how do you know if you are giving crappy service to a geocacher that is also a waymarker, or to a waymarker, benchmarker, or someone that does all 3?? PS - if I knew enough about coding and stuff, I would help maintain this site FREE OF CHARGE, but I'm not knowledgeable enough. We are all volunteers here, we manage this site already, free of charge. I'm just saying that there is little interest in this site, it's well known that it has been on the back burner for several years. geocaching is widely known, Waymarking is not. Virtual geocaching is just not as popular. So threats of Waymarkers not renewing their PM is not going to effect geocaching enough to concern TBTB. Being a PM here you can vote in peer review, manage categorys, have an ignore list, maybe a few more perks, but what I meant was you do not have to have a PM to list or visit a waymark. My waymarks get few visits, I'm not a PM just because I'm a Waymarker, I'm a geocacher too. I can list my photos on other non-geocaching sites and they do get visited and commented on, and tose sites are free. So, "it pays their bills and makes them a profit" was a unintentionally misleading statement?? Maybe they need to find someone that loves Waymarking and get them to manage that part of the system. The dropping PM is not indented as a threat, question is, am I getting my moneys worth?? (My money tree died in the great drought of ??) PS - I pay for and manage two web site, Google ads cover my cost.

  5. New error while trying to log a visit. Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
  6. Maybe it is time for them to spend a day of two and do a little maintenance on the web site.
  7. I am also have trouble. Sometimes I get an error but the transaction completed, other times I have to enter the same transaction more than once. Here are a few of the error I have gotten. Internal connection fatal error. This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable. An error occured in the File Upload Service. Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
  8. I have been adding some waymarks I visited in March 2011. After my wyamarks were approved I would log my visit to them (yes - I'm one of those folks that logs vis1ts to his own waymark). Many times I would get the dreaded 500 Server error when I tried to log the visit. I finally notice that it depended on how I entered the date. 3/2/2011 -- server error 03/02/2011 - accepted. Not sure why the backend does not convert the date of 3/2 to 03/02.
  9. Ok, I logged a visit, then realized I had not updated the visit date. When I tried to "Edit" the log on the one I had just logged, I got the good old 500 server error. During the day (Saturday 7/26), I have gotten the 500 server error, did something else, went back to the same waymark, logged it just fine. Other work, tried to log a different waymark, 500 server. Does someone, maybe need to reboot the server????? Oh - I also had trouble getting to the forum to report the first 500 server error.
  10. I carry a Garmin GPSMap. My main purpose is to tag where the photo was taken, not the exact location of what is being photographed. Of course, even if you are standing on the exact spot of what you want to mark a normal civilian grade GPS will still only be within several feet. Not sure many of us have a military grade GPS. My new web site (CWBFM.org) looks at the metadata and if it finds the GPS info, it will display the coordinates along with the photo.
  11. Several years and a least one PC ago, I found some software listed on the Geocaching site that would take the information from your GPS, match the date/time stamp with the date/time you took the picture and add the coordinates to the picture. Of course, now that I want to find the software again, I have forgotten where I found it and I do not see it on the Geocaching site. Does anyone know of any windows based app that will do this?? I can buy a GPS attachment for my camera, but some freeware is a much cheaper solution.
  12. Well, I restarted my home network and went for a walk while it was doing its thing. I have now been able to log all of the waymarks I was trying to log, so whatever the problem was, it has been fixed.
  13. I can add and approve waymarks, so why can't I log a visit?? Just have to wait for them to get back to me on this. (I'm retired and work from home how). I guess I could try re-starting my home network.
  14. Wonder why it is just me? Maybe I'll try from a different PC, but why would that make a difference.
  15. Is it just me, or is anyone else getting an error when they try and log a visit?? I first noticed this on Thursday 7/17, but figured it would get cleared up in a day or two. On Monday (7/21) I tried again on the same waymark and got the same error. I clicked on the "If you feel that the page you are looking for should be available, please let us know", link and submit a ticket (492365). Today I tried to log a visit to a new waymark that was just approved and got the same error.
  16. I just printed a copy last week. I was using IE and just simply clicked on file print.
  17. "All three of the links in that description are broken or out-of-date." When I find a broken link, I normally inform the "Leader" so they are aware of the problem.
  18. The folks that have logged the most visits (that I know of) are: saopaulo1; 22,114 (is it any surprised) ChapterhouseInc; 13,543 Metro2; 8,378 Peter and Gloria; 7,181 Lat34North; 6,849 If you have over 3,000 visits, let me know.
  19. Keep an eye on Math Teacher, he is closing in on 10,000.
  20. Great job, I like some the features on your stats page. I have been maintaining a stats page for about two years at http://www.lat34north.com/Waymark%20Counts.html. I am currently trying to rewrite this page to add some of the functionality you have, but more importantly, to try and automate the updating of the counts. After doing this for a while, it has gotten to be a drag rather than fun. I am using the rewrite as a learning exercise for another unrelated web site I have been thinking about for a while (playing around with asp.net).
  21. Does this give you what you are looking for? Under Category Searches: (right side of the page) Select -- Largest Then simple go to the last page and these should be the categories with the fewest post (I think). What would be of more interest to me would be a way to search any area for a category that I have not visited yet. But then I enjoy filling in blank spots on my grid.
  22. I guess I was just lucky. I have only done 2 hunts and completed them back when everything was working just fine.
  23. The search thing is a known bug. It is happening with the last 6 or 8 categories. Thanks - I think I may have one that fits this new catagory - now if I just had some way to search my pictures /notes to find it.
