  1. Sure, I normally only do 3 digits (see original post). I just did 4 in a effect to work around the ordinal problem. When I input my latest, the 4th digit was truncated. It is still pending, but it is at N 34° 56.019 W 085° 15.168 http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMTX4X_Benjamin_H_Helm_Memorial_Shell_Monument_Chickamauga_National_Military_Park
  2. It was not in my list of unfinished, first thing I checked. I was able to submit it today (1/17/2017). Was rather frustrating since each time, I had to redo everything. All is right with the world, or at lest the Waymarking portion, now. Thanks for the feedback. Oh, I did change the coordinates slightly, made the N 34° 56.0185 W 085° 15.1685. Of course, this got rounded off to what I had originally. Byron
  3. I'll give that a try on Monday. Never had to do that before.
  4. I am trying to add a NEW entry for the "American Civil War Monuments and Memorials" category that is located on the Chickamauga Battlefield. There are many enterers in the category near this marker, but this is a new one that has not been previously waymarked. I submitted this monument and got the screen listing other monuments close to this one as expected. I cheeked, and this is a NEW one, but when I select "save anyway", I get the following error message. You have previously created a waymark that exactly matches the one you are trying to create right now. You need to differentiate it somehow by adding more information, like a unique coordinate for example. New monument is: Benjamin H. Helm Memorial Shell Monument Coordinates: N 34° 56.019 W 085° 15.168 Closest monuments showing in the messages are: Wright’s Brigade Plaque - Chickamauga National Battlefield Scogin’s Georgia Battery Plaque - Chickamauga National Battlefield Calvert’s Arkansas Battery Plaque - Chickamauga National Battlefield Croxton's Brigade Plaque - Chickamauga National Battlefield
  5. Seems to be working today, it was very slow yesterday, seems to maybe be a little faster today. -- Strange
  6. Every time I click on "MY Waymarks" what is displayed is the home page rather than the waymarks I have submitted. I tried logging off and back in, but still got the same error. I looked at the html, and this is what is there. <a id="ctl00_CategoryListControl1_lnkMyWaymarks" class="boldcontrols" href="http://www.Waymarking.com/wm/search.aspx?f=1&uid=f22cf2d3-7e53-4018-b14a-afcc5d5ac724&st=126&wft=2">My Waymarks</a> I also: Logged off clicked on "My waymarks" Got the login screen -- logged in The page that displayed said "My waymarks" ,at the top, but none of the waymarks where mine. From this page, I was able to expand the "Search" section, select "Waymarks entered by" and put in my user name and got My Waymarks. This works, but is kind of clunky. http://www.Waymarking.com/wm/search.aspx?f=1&wo=True&wft=2&uid=f22cf2d3-7e53-4018-b14a-afcc5d5ac724&st=26
  7. Seem to be one of those yo-yo days. I was able to get one waymark updated, another added, and view the Pending Review page. But it appears to be back down again. (same error Outspoken1 just posted).
  8. And another piece to the puzzle. When I try to access my profile. Server Error in '/' Application. 10. Things are looking better. Still an issue on the profile/stats tab. The Waymarks Posted Per Month and Cumulative Posts Per Month have a black X. Best Month 164 posts in March of 2012 Best Year 982 posts in 2012 Waymarks Posted Per Month X Cumulative Posts Per Month X Yearly Breakdown
  11. Yes - back up. Not sure what I am doing indoors on a day like this in Georgia. 78 degrees with 41 percent humidity – time to get back outdoors!
  12. Thanks - I'll go do some of my "honey-do" list and check back later.
  13. Ok -- down again: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. I am playing with my stats trying to get a minimum of 11 post for each day of the month. Can't reach my goal if I can't post any waymarks today.
  14. The Vittetoe Rd is an unpaved road and has a barricaded at each end that the park service uses. Then there are several hiking paths in the area. I looked at trails.com, and they do not differentiate either, or if they do, its hard to tell on my PC anyway. They do show more of the trails. I'll stick with my paper topo map, Ive walked most of the area enough to know it is correct.
  15. I just added a new waymark for a monument located on the Chickamauga Battlefield. When checking the Mapquest “leaflet”, I noticed my waymark appeared to be on a road (white line on the map). After taking a close look at the map, it appears Mapquest shows some trail, but not all trails, as a solid white line rather than the standard dashes. I included directions on how to reach the monument and say: “... follow this path until you reach a clearing.” (clearing is visible on Goggle Earth) Since mapquest does not differentiate roads from walking paths, this may confuse some (i.e. you cannot drive, you have to walk). When approving, just be aware that the map maybe misleading. Coordinates of the 17th Tennessee Infantry Regiment Marker N 34° 55.616 W 085° 16.475 Waymark (may still be pending) http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMNZ4V_17th_Tennessee_Infantry_Regiment_Marker_Chickamauga_National_Battlefield
  16. The Atlanta paper also ran an article title: Variety of technologies used to capture the citys history that included some info on benchmarking. The main story: http://www.myajc.com/news/entertainment/attractions/it-takes-a-vision-to-see-atlantas-past/nkncF/#a0f6f6e7.2767361.735695
  17. An interesting tit-bit. Using Google Earth street view. Go to N 35.04011 W 85.272595 (1880 E 4th St, Chattanooga, TN). Now while in street view move east on 4th Ave until you cross Orchard Knob Ave. Look at the imagery date in the lower right corner. One image is from 2007, the other view is dated 2011. The building you see in the 2007 image, so no longer there. (I’ve been there in person).
  18. Most GSPr units are only accurate to between 25 to 50 feet, so the error maybe because of the accuracy of their GSPr, but then again, I have seen approved waymarks in the middle of the ocean. There was also one in the middle of the nowhere (was listed as N 33, should have been N 34, my own normally boo-boo). Also it depends on what you are Waymarking. A benchmark, yea, needs to be accurate, a large building, middle of the street is fine. When checking coordinates, I normally just have Google Earth loaded in a different window and copy paste the coordinates from the waymark to Google Earth and verify that way. (in windows alt-tab will scroll thru you open windows, so it is simple to switch back and forth between Waymarking and Google Earth). If the coordinates are close enough for a fellow Waymarker to locate the waymark, it is good enough for me.
  19. Does anyone have Bill Gates phone number??
  20. stranger and stranger, wasn't that the title of a book?? (Actually it was Stranger in a Strange Land) Maybe I'll try accessing it from a hot spot somewhere, no idea why the www does not work for me. One question, after you get to the site, does the www still appear in your url??
  21. Well, this is really frustration. I did get it to work in Chrome, after rebooting my gateway, which is a pain. Still does not work in IE. OK, after playing with this for a while, it appears to be a routing problem. It works in IE if I leave the www off. Normally, it does not matter if you say http://hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/summary.asp or http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/summary.asp But for some strange reason it appears to all of a sudden matter. I checked out some of my older waymarks Check out: Waymark Code: WMN132 scroll to bottom: Optional link to narrative or database: [Web Link] click on web link. The link does not work. If I edit the url and delete the www, then hit enter, it works. This works: http://hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/report.asp?STATE=&PARK=&STRUCTURE=Battery%20D,%201st%20Michigan%20Artillery%20Marker&SORT=&RECORDNO=2

When I tried with Chrome, I got: (Using) http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/summary.asp'>http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/summary.asp The requested URL /insidenps/summary.asp was not found on this server. ________________________________________ Apache/2.2.15 (Red Hat) Server at www.hscl.cr.nps.gov Port 80 Even tried a different PC. Ok, I'll try something radical, re-boot my gateway. Interestingly: http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/ Returns a blank page.
  23. I use the NPS List of structures when I do "NRHP Historic Districts - Contributing Buildings". The url I have is: http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/summary.asp This url has been down for about a month. Does anyone know if the site has change? Have a contact that can fix the site? Or an E-mail address of who to contact about the site?? There is a contact at http://www.nps.gov/index.htm, guess I can try that one unless someone has a better link. Thanks Lat34North Byron

  25. Maybe bruces or checkmark could find out and post it to the News page.
