  1. Here is what will happen: The cache is going to be called sometning like "Choose your own adventure with a 3D puzzle". The first stage will hold a couple Rubik's cubes. You get one cube per group, if there is a group that is doing it. If only one or two people are doing it, you still only get one cube. It will be mixed up, while almost every square will have a number on it. You have to solve the cube first. Then you will have the numbers which you will have to put in the right places in the next part. Here is an example. N 40* _8._ _1 W _ _ _* 20._3_ It will be different for each side. You will have set of numbers that you will have to put in the spaces which I will tell you. Now here comes the fun and thankfully less challenging part. You will then have six different sets of coord's to choose from. It is here that I have to mention that there will be a container inside the first one that will be either strongly glued or welded to the inside side of the first stage. It will have a flap that will come up to reveal the final cache container. It will have a lot of stuff inside for the finders so they don't feel cheated of a good prize. It will have a strong combo lock on it to prevent people from just going and taking whatever they want, whenever they want, especially before doing the puzzle. Anyway, like I said, you will have six different sets of coord's to choose from. Only one set of coord's will have a small container that is properly fastened to something. The container will have the code for the lock in it. Now, every so often, I will change the code for the lock and possibly the right set of coord's to disgourage people from just telling other people what it is all the time. Another possiblity is that I have the container nearby, say within a couple hundred feet, and the container also has the coord's for the container in it. I can also move the final container every so often to keep certain things from getting out to everybody and to prevent muggling of the cache containers and the cubes. The container will either be up in a tree blending in well or under a large stone or something. Also, I can have people e-mail and put pon the log exactly when they take the cubes and when they return them so they do not get stolen. There will only be a maximum of three cubes in the cache. Also, if people have trouble, there will be a website on the cache page that they can go to for help. All in all, a cache with a difficulty rating of at least a 3 star; terrain about a 2-3 star. If you have anything that I should add, or anything, feel free to post a reply or something. Thanks, and have a great nice day. gwf
  2. There probably isn't a single cacher in the top 100 finds/hides or forum posts that hasn't had a measurable impact on the community. Yourself included. Just so you know, there is no space in TeamAlamo. Well their username, that is. And as for their finds? *Total Caches Found 31783 Just so you know, I just checked less than five minutes ago. Thanks. gwf
  3. I've got a few including Sir Gerald(the current leader of the Utah Association of Geocachers), JeeperDad,(used to be a reviewer and has many history caches along with Sir Gerald) and many others. Thanks and have a great day. gwf
  4. \One of them is probably archived, either that or they are the same geocache. I am planning on one that will be that way sort of. Someone finds a puzzle inside stage one, they solve it and go on to stage 2 which hold the code needed to unlock a container that is inside the first stage container. That container has a lock on it and has the final cache container in it. The final cache containe has log and the usual stuff inside it.
  5. I saw the pic for Magellan. What kind of dog is he? He looks like a german sheperd or an akita. Thanks and have a great day! gwf
  6. That has actually been done in orem, utah and the surrounding area. There is a series called Anyone up for "Poker". There are several in the series. Here it is in case you are confused. I am a bit because I haven't done this series yet. Poker anyone? This is one of five permanent, sign only mirco caches with a "Poker" twist. You'll need to bring a pen. Please feel free to visit and log this cache even if you aren't "up for poker." This series was inspired by Sir Gerald's Poker run that was played at the Utah Geocaching 5th Birthday event at Potter's Pond. Once Poker has been played, the caches will remain for all to find and sign the log. Some basic rules: -There are 55 cards in the deck (including 3 jokers), so eleven people can play. -The deck was shuffled and each card randomly given a number. -Please only claim a poker card if you intend to visit all five caches. -Claim only one poker card at each cache per cacher's name or one per geocaching.com account. -All caches are hidden the same way. -Each location has a different set of numbers, so you can't cheat and only go to one cache. All five caches in the series must be visited to have a valid poker hand. -The game will end when 11 cachers have five cards in their "hand" or on Oct. 31, 2005, whichever comes first. -The winning cacher will receive a $20 "Always" gift card. -What Peanut and Cashew say goes, they are the judges and will make the final decision. How to Play: 1. At each location, find a 35mm film canister. 2. Choose a poker number. 3. Write your caching name on the back of the number. 4. Leave your number in the cache. 5. Sign the log book. 6. Log your visit at geocaching.com. 7. Include the poker number you have chosen in your log. 8. Visit the next cache(s) in the series. 9. You are done playing when you have chosen one number from each cache. E-mail us if you want to know the cards you're holding, but remember once you pick a card you can not change it. They have dogs and a couple cats, two of which are Peanut(now deceased sadly) and Cashew. Thanks. Have a great day. gwf
  7. If the cache is one that is a really hard to find cache, has never been found, and has stumped many cachers, and I wanted to have some fun, I might do something with sign ing it I wouldn't normalyy do, such as "post note I found it/DNF I found it/Found it log I didn't find it/DNF several times then said in one, I might have signed it, but since I am the only one who has found it besides the owner, you don't know whether i really found it or if I am just saying I found it just to be annoying or just for fun." With the last one, I would then say in that log or in an e-mail to the owner, don't tell anyone whether I really found it or not. If it was in the e-mail, I would say I had found it, but would add that I would like for it to be kept secret for a while, say a month or two and then on the day of an event near there, I would finnally post a found it log just before we met for the event. I might nust get an event organized by there just so i could do that. Also, thinks if you could use your iphone and put that you had just found it 6 months ago, or around the date that you actually found it. If anybody asks what you are doing, CASUALLY reply that you are just logging a found it on a very difficult to find cache(name that certain cache that everybody is looking for if you want to have a bit more fun), and then drive away just after that, saying that they will never find it unless they bribe you. There's a few good ways you can have fun with stuff like that. Have a great day. gwf
  8. Yes, but some trees like the hemlock, one species of laburnum I know of, candelabras, and other types. You have to be careful what types of trees you do stuff with sometimes. Interesting fact: the stuff between the skin covering the walnut and the walnut shell is poisonous. It is especially able to have the potenial of being dangerous to you when that skin crack and turns black whe the nut ripens. I am not saying that you should be destroying the poisonous trees, just that you should be a llliiitttle more careful when you try climb on those types of trees. If you want a list poisonous trees, just go online and type in poisonous trees or go to the library and take a good look at some of the tree books. Especially if there are ones that will tell you if they are poisonous or not. Hope this helps a little bit more from now on with those types of things. Thanks and have a great day. gwf
  9. There is a cache which has a funny picture on it. I would have gotten it on here except I couldn't figure out how to. The pic is on the cache page. It was put there by the owner as a bit of humor on purpose to help explain about the cache. The cache is called Vegetarian Cache. It is really funny. As soon as I figure out how to get it on here, I will try to get it on here. Thanks, and have a great day! gwf
  10. I would basically, remove the junk. Then, if it is a FTF'er, scribble out the innappropriate part or the rest of the page after their signature or just tear it out and put that they are FTF; if it is not a FTF'er, then do like I just said, except if there are other signatures below, just white out or scribble out the innappropriate part. Another option is to put on your cache pages something like "Anything that could be considered trash(state what you think is trash here), MCtoys, tampons, etc. please throw out." That doesn't mean TB's or GC's unless they are attached to something like that. Then just get it out of the cache, and send the TB back to where it came from, minus the innappropriate object. If cachers are going to put something like that in a cache, then they should be full aware that they are going to have to take responsiblity if someone decides to throw them out or tell Groundspeak that they should be banned temporarily, or permanently. Whatever syou decide to enforce in your caches, as long as it appropriate, I am sure it will be upheld by many other willing cachers. Some people like to leave stuff like that because it is the only thing they have to trde. But if you are going to do something like that, in my opinio, you should at least leave something that people will be willing to leave in there. Mcjunk usually doesn't fit in that category according to most people. If you decide to let anybody leave/keep it in there, that is your choice. But be prepared for the consequences if the owner doesn't approve of it. Most cachers will obey the owner if they say do or do not do this. However, there are those few that won't That is why you will find it you best interest to stsate what you will and will not allow whether it be a certaintype of cache, or not, a certain cache or not, yes for caches in general or not. It is ultimately up to the owner to decide what happens. Anybody that does not comply, can answer to the owner for their choices or opinion. Thaks, and I hope I have made this a little more clear to everybody. Thanks,a nd have a great day! gwf
  11. Hey, I am going to be hiding a creative puzzle and I need some advice on what to do with it. I am going to be hiding a rubik's cube where the cachers have to solve it and then go to a max. of six waypoints to get the code to unlock a box holding the container at the final location. There will be numbers written on each side of cube, only they will be mixed up. The cube itself will also be mixed up when they find it to increase the difficulty. The numbers will be parts of WP's, and there will be stuff to help them solve that part so they have six different WP's that they can visit. Only one will have a container that has the code to unlock it. TO increase the difficulty of someone finding the container by accident, it will not have coord's to the final location. All stages will be listed on the cache page. Any advice on what to do and how to go about it is appreciated. Who knows, maybe someone will find some useful information to use when they want to hide something like this. Thanks, and have a great day! gwf
  12. you decide that the best spot for a cache is in the middle of a thorny sticker patch and your wearing shorts and a t shirt when you place it. I did (GC1FNA7) That will probably happen to me, owing to the fact that I ride me bike A LOT! That is the bold part I was talking about. Everything else willprobably also happen to me at some point in time. Thanks, and have a great day! gwf
  13. you actually go to google maps to look at those co-ordinates! They are acually easier to find, since you don't have to wait for the server to load all the geocaches within the area. Especially if you don't want to go outside to get a place picked out. It is a lot faster too. Not kidding.
  14. Let me add a couple. ...if you are kept awake at night trying to devise that cache or series of caches.* ...if you are waking up at night and start thinking about caching almost immediately after you wake.* ...if you fantasize about that you designed or are designing, found or are trying to find.* ...if you are wondering how to go about designing that cache,* find that far off cache,* sneak out of the house without anyone noticing, getting back inside and in bed without anyone noticing so you can say you were in bed four hours before you really were(works really well if you share a room), etc. ...if you are trying to think about how to design that cache so it won't be considered an agenda.* *=guilty
  15. I don't, but I do go to stores to find containers like that. Here is a hint: always go to the large stores. Never the small tiny ones and gas stations unless it is a photo store. Then it is allowed because you will actually have something to call a prize. Thanks. gwf
  16. I have a cacher that I know that had that happen to him. The "search" was later turned into an actual geocache puzzle/muti. Thanks. gwf
  17. ...you've ever broken a major bone while geocaching and you crawled the rest of the way to the cache before calling for help. Notice that word "before". Make that capitalized. Okay, now let's try that again. ...you've ever broken a major bone while geocaching and you crawled the rest of the way to the cache BEFORE calling for help. Much better. Thanks. gwf
  18. ...if you can name each and every kind of geocaching container that you have seen, where it comes from, who makes it, when it was bought, where it was most likely pruchased from, and probably how much it costs. And if you can do this for each and eavry site that sells caches, and what size it would be listed as, and what would be the best place and way to hide it, along with when in the day, week, month, and year. Thanks. gwf[]
  19. DON'T do that! I thought that was supposed to tear a hole in the space time continuum!!! You should have bought it had it engraved and sold it on eBay! StaticTank But see, that's the thing. I wouldn't give 'em $12.50 for it......much less $1250!!! Batteries or not! ~* You want to see some interesting containers? Just type in"interesting geocaching containers", "funny geocaching containers", "unique gecaching containers", etc. You will get a lot of sites selling interesting containers, and such. If you want to see what I mean, go to the thread "Interesting geocaching containers" or something like that. Look for the ones from greenworldfeather. I have compiled a list of interesting geocaching containers I found from all over the internet. Thanks. Have a ghreat time searching. gwf []
  20. It all depends on what the person who needs help and the the helper in question feel is right and/or okay. If you think that they should do it them selves it is one thing. But if the persoin has tried several times and still cannot get it even though they have tried, and contacted the owner, then I believe it is a matter of what the two people in question think is right to do or okay for a/some situation(s). If thety want to give out a hint, I do not belive that it is anybody else's business except for those two people, unless the owner has specifically requested that no hints be given out. Even then I believe it is a matter of ethics, morals, and standards concerning only those people. If they gone to the owner and still cannot solve it, even with the help of the owner(s), then I believe it is a matter of what the solver thinks can and should be done. I have done this same thing several times, in fact. I like puzzles, but sometimes you just can't solve them and you need multiple source for help. In those instnces I believe that I should insert this bit. If you do it, then just be prepared for the consequences that will follow. Also read this. "We be live that man (or woman) shall be punished for their own sins, and not for (insert name(s) here)'s transgression." Here is what I think is/should be allowed: If you are doing it in a group, or if the owner or someone else who has solved it is present, and is helping people who just can't solve it. Here is what I think is/should not be allowed: Basically just giving a major hint out or downright giving people the solution, especially if the owner has said not to give any hints(unless the person cannot get to that particular meeting because of some kind of conflict that can't be resolved easily, or unless the owner won't mind because several hints have already been given out, etc.). I think I have given a pretty good explanation concerning this particular topic. Remember: It is your standards/morals and ethics that count in the end. If someone does something wrong, and you don't know about it, and you happen to carry out/on whatever it is that is not allowed, you will not receive any punishment IF you are doing it purely out of the goodness of your heart towards something or someone. It will be them that receives the punishment. Thanks, and I hope that I made this a little more clear and distinguishable to everyone. Have a great day. May you choose wisely. gwf[][]
  21. Can anyone name this song? dah dah dah daah dah dah dah American idiot by Green day or Canadian idiot by weird al yankovic(he parodied it) is all that comes to mind right now. I hope that you find what you are looking for. Thanks. gwf[][8D]
  22. Look for caches in orem utah. That would be about 40 miles south and a bit east of our state capital, SAlt Lake City. Look in orem on the maps for a street called State St. and another called university Parkway. Look for an intersection where they meet. Now look for a cache that is right by it. RIGHT BY IT! The cache page should say that this is a very dagerous intersection. E-mail the owner and ask him what the container is. There is your solution. Thanks. gwf[][8D]
  23. If you are looking fo unique hides, then you might want to take a look at some of mine. My username is "greenworldfeather" minus the quotation marks. I will tell you how some of them are hidden if you like and what some of the containers are. I will only do that to people who are actually looking for ideas for really nice, challenging, and/or(preferrably "and") unique caches. One of my goals with geocaching is to get unique finds put out unique hides. It is really rewarding. Plus, with what I have, I haven't spent hardly any money on materials and containers and such because I have a couple of jobs that I do, plus my dad always comes home with containers full of herbal things to help us get better from our sicknesses. It helps a lot. Plus, there are plenty of containers left to choose from. I have only spent about thrity dollars on stuff so far. I only have one (1) bison tube out for people to find(it is a stage in a multi), no ammo cans used or about to be used, and I have yet to use any film containers. I am about to use one or two, but oh well. I have 9 hides and counting. I know, that isn't many, until you starttrying to find them. Most of them are in puzzle caches or multis, and some are in both. I try to make each hide unique, complete with its own unique puzzle or multi or something like that. I also try to make each container unique. Some are camo'ed, some have no need to be because they are are translucent and are usually green or something like that. I will only tell people who are out of the state of utah specifc details. Anyone else can look at the cache page and try to find them themselves if they live in utah. Sorry. it is just that I do not want to give away hints that are that big and then have a bunch of cachers find it within a shjort amount of time, mysteriously, when bfore hardly anyone could solve or find them. Some are hard, some are not. Some are in between. Anyway, if you want some ideas, just ask me. Thanks. gwf [][8D]
  24. I really think this a good one. I haven't really been caching except for the last day or two, since the Wed. before Valentines this year. I drive myself very hard sometimes to get a cache. I knew it was only a matter of time before I got sick. Got a cough Tuesday, made it a lot worse Wed. and became sick for the next week and a half. That's about the worst sickness I have ever had. It was influenced by other things, but partly because I didn't take care of myself very well that week or other times. Now I have learned that you need to be more careful when you cache. If you fell something coming on, don't cache for a few days. Now my parents have it, and it is not fun. Missed the first two days of work since I started in august last year, and I'm kind of hardy. Oh well, I learned my lesson. Thanks and have a great day! gwf
