  1. Finally received a nice package from Geohunt. A camoed L&L container with some cool Essex, England themed swag items and Britan geocoin and a Northern Ireland geocoin. I would post some pics if my camera hadn't gone missing a while ago.

    Thanks, GeoHunt!

Excellent news... Glad you finally got your birthday package - sorry the first one was lost... but it has been returned to me now, so you might just get an unbirthday pacage in the near future.

  5. Coincidentally I saw this yesterday in the Standard, regarding the park being used for the Olympics. Don't know if there's any connection.

It seems a shame that when placed, the caches had permission (I'm guessing) from thew rangers - why has their attitude changed?

Will there be any london ones left.......

Should virtuals be re-instated in cities like London?

  6. Our Scout Group are finally venturing into Geocaching and have decided to hold a couple of caching evenings in October.

Unfortunately, or fortunately for us we are a large troop and have 40 boys and girls regularily attend, and only a couple of GPS's.

Is there anyone close to us in Wickford Essex that would be prepared to come along with your GPS to help out?????

    Hi,

I might be able to help out, as I live in Billericay. Email me if you need a hand.

  7. Ok a mixed bag of responses so I think I should explain why I asked the question.

As the coin becomes the property of the person who registers it then In theory he/she/they can decide what they want to do with it. Which leads me to the dilema I currently find myself in. My 11 year old daughter has a coin that SHE thinks will go missing or be replaced by a crude copy (she is aware that this sort of thing has happened recently) and she would rather keep the coin so she can take it to events to share with other people.

I did think of the laminated copy to send on its way but I know there are people who object to this practice and see it as pointless and to a point I agree.

I think I need to think this through a bit more before deciding IF I should impose "The Rules" on her

In this case, I would go with the laminated copy idea (something I had not thought of, and wish I had, as I have lost a few slugs and coins now 3out of the 6 released are lost, or in one case with a geogcacher who does not reply to emails... :)

The Laminated method allows you to take part in the game, but also allows you daughter to take to events etc.. Rather a laminated coin "Missing" than a real coin "missing" AKA in a box.

But the great thing about the hobby is that its up to you :)

  8. Hi

I am new to geocaching been hard at it for two months tired to place my first cache in the plotlands at dunton, posted my cache and my reviewer put it on hold to see if i had asked permission. There are caches in the area so i thought it would be ok. But the guidlines for hiding a cache say you should ask permission so i phoned the warden to ask permission and he refused, so i had to go and retreive the box which i have done. I then sent an email to the essex wildlife trust to ask about other possible locations this is the answer i got today

Hi Darren, the sites you mention in your email are not owned by the Essex Wildlife Trust, but by Basildon District council, although we do manage some land in this area as well, However, we have been asked before about having the geocaches on our site and we have always said we do not want them on our nature reserves, we try and encourage people onto the reserves but really like to keep people on the paths and I don't think visitors seeing people digging up boxes on our site is what we should be encouraging as this could cause disturbance to animals as well as vegetation Thank you for your request, hopefully you will find a suitable site Thanks Lisa

It Seems that one tree hill westley heights and langdon hills are ok but i still need check

it seems t we are low on the good locations in basildon

You need to make sure that they are aware of what geocaching is all about. I sent an email to the head of the South East region, of the Essex Wildlife trust, for my Hanningfield Reservor cache. They then got in contact giving permision, but I had to speak to the warden. The warden came out with me to place the cache in a suitable location.

Basildon Council are a nightmere though!!

    Keep at it.

  9. Just got home with another 30 coins, email me if you want one! A few other cachers turned up and went away with some extras so Im sure there will be more up for grabs soon.

I spent a while chatting to Claire and Gemma (if you are reading this, you are both gorgeous...) who were giving the coins out, they apologised for not being able to get back for the flash mob and also said everyone involved worldwide with giving out the coins was told to only give them to people who ask, so no need to worry about loads of muggles ending up with them.

Check me out on their website, second photo from left

  10. Hi all,

I'm planning to organise a geocaching event in south essex. This will be the first I've organised so I'd be grateful for ideas and tips on how to organise a great event.

I thought a simple meet would be good as I'd love to meet some of the folks I see in the logs, but where and when??

    Please help

    Jon (kifcog)

I would love to pop along and put names to faces ect.. How about a geocache time trial?
