  1. Since I had a cache nearby, I recently posted a note offering to take over a cache from an owner who has 3 finds, hadn't logged in for 6 months, and geocaching did not have his e-mail address. He logged on mighty quick and deleted my note. Makes me think it is a sock puppet account. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  2. Different manufacturers, but when my Merridian Gold starts acting like that, a re-initialization usually straightens it out. If that doesn't do the trick an entire clearing of the memory definitley will. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  3. I love getting hard terrain ones, but the issue for me is time. Generally, I have about an hour of daylight or so during summer week nights to cache. That kind of rules out a 3000 foot climb. I try to grab the hard terrain ones when I can. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  4. This just occured to me, so sorry if it's been covered. I would love to see an option to have the Travel Bug pages of TBs that are in the caches that are included in the query added to the MobiPocket file. Maybe in an index a la the hints? Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  5. Is it true there are no self-serve gas stations in Oregon so the Beavers and Ducks have something to do when they graduate? Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  6. Thanks everyone. I guess that question is answered! Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  7. I made a quick search of the forums, but didn't find this specifically addressed. If I have an item that I got at a trade show that simply has the name of a company stamped on it, is it "commercial?" Some of those items would make nice little trade items. For example: I have a plane that is made of stress ball material. It says Boeing on the tail. I have a ruler with a slide puzzle on it. "Gibco" is stamped on it. To me it would be no different putting those things into a cache than putting in a keychain compass that has "Coleman" on it. The only difference I guess is that I bought one at Target and picked the other one up at a trade show. I guess I wouldn't expect anyone to feel pressured to buy a 747 or BoneMarrow Medium by seeing or taking those items out of a cache. Any thoughts? Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  8. No. In fact, I'm currently working a 1/1 cache that's kicking my butt. It's mostly because I can't seem to get to the park when it's even a little empty and I don't want some of the kids who hang out there to wreck it if they see me grab it, that still makes it challenging. 9. I thought about making one of mine "Members Only" but ended up not doing so because some of the biggest hiders around here are not members and I wanted to reciprocate. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.

I just like cramming a lot of junk on my DVDs. You're right, DVD+ would probably work just fine. It's like Garmin vs. Magellan debate. There's no right answer, (well, yet anyway) and no sense getting in a debate. I suggest Greg&Christy do a 5 minute google search and see what would work best for them. As far as compatability, the only trouble I have had is with a Mitsi DVD player which spits out +'s as well. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  13. Just take it easy. Geocaching is about the caching, not the forums. To borrow a term from Criminal, what do you care about what these slackjaws think if you have fun doing the caching? Insert pretentious quote or saying here.

  16. <---See Avatar as well. I have been field identified as a Shrek-like ogre or big foot on occasion. But my companion is certainly a geo-dog. Despite my name, I have never been mistaken for an actual moose or Theodore Roosevelt. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.
  17. The one time I was "caught" it was while rooting around in a forest looking for the cache. The person who caught me was a teenager with a twelve pack of low quality beer, who looked at me like he caught me with a body or something. I figured he wasn't going to call the cops without actually seeing a body, so I played it up. I just froze and stared him down, and had my dog come to attention and stare at him and then we slowly walked towards him until he ran away. I know, I know. I was feeling like a jerk that day... Few people know about this though, and I doubt many police know of it, so I carry a copy of the law, just so they know I'm not totally full of crap. Still, I'll only carry in extreme areas like up in the lonely areas of the Cascades. Wow! Thanks for the info Martmann. I was thinking about getting a carry permit just for that reason, but was putting off dealing with the beauracracy. Insert pretentious quote or saying here.

  21. Or, can I log the benchmarks by just looking at the quarter?
  22. ... sometimes you need to do math or read a historical marker to be successful. ... virtuals aren't as fun.
  23. ... nosy old people want to know what the heck you think you're doing in "their" park. ... you think about calling in sick to work to spend the day doing it. ... the dog never quite understands what's going on, but watches anyway.

I left a travel bug there (I also picked one up), since I figured the trail was so popular it'd be crawling with geocachers. A couple weeks later and I'm still the only finder. And as soon as I post that, someone logs a find there. Good, I'm glad the little TB is on it's way.
