  1. Thanks Skip, I know I will seem like a cheap bastard but does anyone have any other suggestions? Being a debt ridden recent graduate I find myself counting every penny
  2. Hello everyone, I wanted to know if anyone knew a way to download more than one page worth of geocaches. I log on and click: "find geocaches closest to home coordinates" Then I check all the ones I want and hit download. Now I wish to add more geocaches to the file but haven't found a way. I was hoping to have a huge single geocache file (maybe a few hundred) Any ideas??? BTW I'm using mapsend topo Canada(2004), With explorist 500. Thank you and keep caching
  3. Just curious, In how many threads are you going to post the same comments? John Lool I appreciate that people dont want to hear me complaining. In this case I wanted to get the word out and felt one thread didn't do this justice. To top this I get a call a week after I receive a replacement 500 asking if it would be fine if they sent me a 500!!!Never mind that I already have it in my hands they had promised a triton 400. How can they breath with their heads so far up there???
  4. Right on!!! thanks for sharing your experience. Anyone else feels this way??
  5. helirider, eight identical posts in different threads? That's bordering on spam. Looks to me like a RantSpam. Yes it's rant spam. I want people to know whats going on. I'm usually a very easy going guy. I just had a call from magellan last week saying they are going to send me a replacement 500!!! I already received the unit. plus they had promised a triton 400. The words "get your head out your a**" keep coming into my mind for some reason.....................
  6. Not just Palms but Pocket PC's also with Windows CE. Perhaps all kinds of PDA sync programs hijack the com port. I'm using USB.... not Com-port. Does that make a difference?? I have not used the newest versions of MapSend with an eXplorist unit, but with the previous versions they did not talk directl to the units. Using Topo 3D v1, and DirectRoute v2, I had to tell the software to write to an SD card reader (using the drive letter for the unit attached via the USB cable). Perhaps tis will also work for you. That's it!!! I have version 1 and the mapsend dates 2004!!!! WOW. All this time to find such a simple solution. Thanks everyone
  7. That's funny because I even asked tech support if maybe my mapsend version was out of date. I'm pretty sure that's my problem... I'll look into it. Thanks again to all the great people that have helped me out. I hope this will also help some other poor soul.

  9. OK Peeps, Thanks for the responses. I have spent more hours with tech support and cruised sites in search of an answer. This is the best I have so far: I can upload/dowload regions, tracks and routes using the magellan conversion manager. But no luck as far as using any of the drop down menus options that say upload/download to GPS on mapsend topo Canada; or "GPS settings" in the drop down "options" menu. I keep getting the stupid com-port error message and the "failed to detect GPS receiver" messages. Seems kind of crazy to have these drop downs if they dont actually work. Worst of all is how magellan tech support give you the huge run around and waste another 3hours of my time!!! I know I'm ranting but really I have had it with those guys.
  10. Thanks for the response I'm dont have an SD card yet. I thought I would use the internal memory first... The NEMA is turned off. I'm using the explorist 500 Le. Could it be that my mapsend softwate is out of date?? it seems to only give me option COM 1 and COM 3 for the autodetect. Anyhow, Thank you. Really appreciate the input
  11. BE WARNED!!!!!! My magellan explorist failed to communicate and I contacted them. NIGHTMARE!!!! Almost 20 calls/ over 4 months wait/ Hours wasted waiting on hold/ running trough a big trouble shoot multiple times.... The list goes on. They repeatedly lied and told me a replacement was on the way when that wasn't a fact. I was sent a replacement cable C.O.D. (unit was still under waranty) while the cable wasn't the problem. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MY LIFE. EVER. but I want to make it clear that I never took it out on the poor staff. It's bad enuf that they work night shift in India to serve us in North America our during business hours...

  18. Hello everyone So after many trials I'm still get the dreaded "failed to detect GPS receiver" message. I'm using XP edition and mapsend topo. I can transfer regions, tracks using the Magellan conversion manager, but if I try any options on Mapsend like GPS settings/ Upload or Download from GPS. I get :"cannot open the specified com-port...." and when I press OK and go to the GPS setting screen my GPS doesn't show up. Auto detect doen't help either. I know my GPS is connected as it shows up as "E" drive on my computer. I'm using USB... Anythoughts would be appreciated... HELP!!!! BTW I will call magellan/mapsend and post what I find. I hope this will help someone too...
  19. Thanks for bring this up...I have the same problem. I still can't get it to work and it says it's exporing .gs format??? anyways here is what I do: I make a list of all my geocaches on my palm! I can put in the description and anything alse I want too... Anyways Good luck (hope you have a PDA too)
  20. Hi Not sure if this will help but I'm also planning a big trip and I found that if I cropped all the cities and places I planning on visiting and make up many detail maps; I can punch in each detail map along the way. Thus cutting down on all the areas I wont be in... You can also "explore" your plug in memory device(GPS unit) from your desktop and get an idea of how much memory you have used and how much you have left... Good luck
